I admit I haven't read every response in this topic (and I know there aren't many, but my time is limited at the moment) but I wanted to point out, in case it hasn't yet been said, that playthrough estimates always end up remarkably slanted no matter how honest and well-meaning a developer may be with them. This is evident everywhere in gaming. People approach various aspects of the games they play very differently. If I had a dollar for every time I've watched someone tell someone else what they would consider the "average" length of a given title, only for the other person to turn around and look at them incredulously, I'd... well, I tell you, I could probably at least pay half of next month's rent.

I do every single quest (well, as long as it's not collecting stuff that is spread all over the map).  so a possible 150+ hours makes me very happy

Always, always take time estimates with a bucket of salt.

Very typically actual playthroughs wind up being shorter.

MORE MORE! Make it 400 hours, keep adding don't stop. Tired of buying the 3-5 hour games give me a game that takes a week to play the whole damn thing straight through.

I used to feel this way, but now that I have a lot more responsibilities (a full-time job PLUS a part-time job) a four hundred hour game would probably take months for me to play. Which is not a good thing, if they're trying to tell a tight story.

Not sure why the whole "hours" thing is still even used to gauge a games length.   Its a completely subjective figure that is likely to be less accurate than a weather forecast.

Some people see getting through a game as quickly as possible as an achievement, while others take pleasure in soaking in the feeling of the world.   Some might never pause once during combat, others might pause after every ability has fired for every character.

How long with DA:I take me?   As long as I want.

While I would agree that is nebulous, I DO feel there is some cut-off of "too short," and thus hours must be discussed. For me anyway. Portal and Portal 2 were great games, but at a total of 9 hours for BOTH, for BOTH, I wouldn't pay 60 for the two of them combined.

Though the numbers we're talking about (and that Bioware goes for) are far more reasonable.

DA2 was entirely possible to complete 100% because its scope was limited.
It also depends on what completionist means to you.

If I have passed the last trader and I have uber-weapons and potions,
then I have no need to check ever remaining chest and corpse.

You don't do it because you need uber-weapons and potions, you do it because there's something inside of you telling you to take everything that's not nailed down.

Basically, yeah. And because you can always sell the junk for more sweet, sweet gold. Mmmm, gold.

The funniest piece of loot BW ever put in a game, though, was definitely the 5,000 credits in that locker in KotOR right at the endgame, after you could no longer shop. Best completionist troll in a game I've ever seen.

I think my max about of gold by the end of DA:O for a rogue was 800 sovereigns.

I don't think I ever even bought a single thing but backpacks.

The thing that made me groan the loudest at the beginning of DA2 was going from a character with 500+ sovereigns at the end of Witch Hunt to needing to grind up to 50 from nothing.

My cousin in the Fade seriously couldn't chuck me 10% of his net worth? So stingy, Warden. So stingy.

I know that whatever the game's length is reported to be, I'll be trying to drag it out as long as I can stand.

Some reason my dwarf playthrough on DA:O is longer than any others I did, and this dwarf is my last of eight. Fastest so far for me is around 50 hours doing everything and not skipping a lot. At 70+ for my dwarf, and not sure why.

Now DA:I, that will keep me busy for the next whole year cause I plan on being at least three different races off the bat, and the 3 different classes, knowing choices of each matters as well kinda adds the fact will play multiple times.

At first it was mentioned 150 hours and now 200 hours. Hmm i'm not sure what to make of it. I think even Skyrim wasn't that long no? But anyhow as long as the game is closed to 100 hours realistically on one playthroughs, 150 or 200 hours don't bother me.

Considering if there's replayability, the game is well worth the money i spent. Dragon Age Inquisition looking very beautiful. But i think there's lip-syncing issue back on E3 demo.

Really love to know if the lip-syncing issue has been fixed.

Skyrim's as long as you make it. I have one playthrough that is above 450 hours and grows as I come back to it just to walk around and enjoy the world. I got the game on 11/11/11 and didn't finish the main quest line and see the credits until 2/22/12.

The 150 hours sounds like a piffle sort of figure. DAO was at max for me 58 hours and that was a lot of content. I can't imagine DAI will be 3x more content rich than DAO. I have bad images of it being longer in the same way ME1 was longer than ME2..."exploring" the Uncharted Worlds looking for lost Turian medallions.

I never worry about how long Bioware games last; I always always always get my bang for my buck with Bioware games.

And yes, that includes the copy paste job of DA2 as well.

I'm in the same boat.

I can't really think of anything that would make it go for 150+ hours as a BioWare. I mean it's a good thing that the game has so much content, but that estimate is honestly hard for me to swallow. I guess we'll see soon enough.

My Origins file was at about 72 when I finished. With the menu-accessible DLCs that turned into around 80. With Awakening, about 100.

My Dragon Age II file, with both DLCs integrated, was around 61, I think. Still not bad, but that was still with me wandering around a lot and whatnot. Definitely a shorter game, through and through.

Inquisition's scenic areas all but guarantee I'll clock something even higher than Origins, unless something goes really, really wrong. Which... it doesn't look like it will. I take a long time with the games I enjoy. A long, long time.

Was Awakening's time added to your DAO run? I saw Awakening as being separate.

Most likely exaggerated.

I'd say a main story playthrough is 20-35 hours, and a completionist playthrough is 50-100. Only Elder Scrolls games (console wise) so far have actually had content over 150+ hours per playthrough.

Instead of knowing how many hours it takes to play, I'd rather know if the playtesters find it's shorter or longer than playing Origins.

I think it just depends on how complete you want to make your own game.

Many have quoted Skyrim and that is fair, I was happy doing the main quest line, mages & warriors guild, the war faction, all the main quest content in the dlcs, then just exploring the ruins, caves, temples, dwarf places etc when ever I felt like it & I was happy with that.

I mean would you rather have 150 hours+ of trash? or 50 hours of pure quality?

So rather than get hung up on numbers, just hope for a great game & experience.

Course then we'd have to know how much time each invested into the first game.

I wouldn't.

A person tends to be consistent when it comes to how fast they play a game genre. If someone played Origins and DA II 'quickly' then they'll get through Inquisition quickly. If they play 'slowly' then they'll do the same.

If people find it generally takes them longer than Origins then I can assume it will be longer than my Origin playthrough, whether that playthrough is 20, 60, or 120 hours.

The completionist playthrough we had in our office was over 150hrs, it might take you longer or shorter.

Things to note about that time. It was by someone who knows and is familiar with the game mechanics, etc, so there was no "learning time". Also, that's not "all" the content. There are branching decisions to be made in the game so you will not see everything on one playthrough.

How long did that person take to finish Origins and II?

Hmm. Really?

I mean I guess I can agree with that, but one person's "long" playthrough might be a lot shorter than another's.

Some people thought 60 hours w DLCs for Mass 2 was long. When they heard I was reaching 100 in my last few playthroughs they were dumbfounded as to how that was possible.

So I'm curious as to what numbers people would give us if we inquired.

You are correct that relative speeds should stay the same - I don't pause a lot in combat so my playthroughs are likely faster than someone who unnecessarily micromanages their party.

It is still hard to compare game to game  ME1 was clearly longer than ME2 for me BUT a lot of that time was driving the worst moon buggy in history around the most boring planets in history. Did it add hours to my play time...yes. Did it make the game better....no. That is honestly why I am usually only concerned with main plot quests and the time to complete because that is where the meat is.

And there's my point

In my case, Mass 1 was a 40 hour game. Mass 2 even without the DLCs ran me longer. With the DLCs it was 2.5 times that.

It differs so much from player to player that I'd hope for some numbers to go off of, person by person.

Not long, LONGER.

"Inquisition takes me longer to finish than Origins" tells me more about how long Inquisition will be *for me* than "Inquisition takes me 30 hours to finish."

After all, this person could have finished Origins in 25 hours.
