I have a hard time believing the "200 hours" claim. A completionist playthrough of Skyrim+DLC took me about 120 hours, and that was at a fairly leisurely pace. No other game has taken me so long to fully complete in a single playthrough. Even DAO only took me about 40 hours, and that was with all expansions/DLC.

Besides, you know a game is good if your only complaint is that it's too short. If you're playing a game you truly love it'll always feel too short, simply because you won't want it to end.

Sounds like a lot of exploration, which isn't really my favorite thing in an RPG. But I'm also a completionist... I have a feeling I won't be able to finish this game.

what's the point in playing an RPG if your not going to explore?

There's more to RPGs than exploring, unless the only RPGs you play are Elder Scrolls.

Mandatory exploration for all areas? It seems like we got ourselves a semi confirmed rumor over here.

All games have their learning curves. Of course for all of us fans here, we're going to learn the game's mechanics fairly quickly.

And I don't think there really is an exact time Bioware could give us about game length. Just maybe an estimate. Now, they said 200 hours, so to me, that's about 90-130 hours as I'm already familiar with how Dragon Age games work.

Tbh, I don't even believe that. There can't be that much filler in one game. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose. The bright side however, is high replayability.

Any RPG over 60 hours is plenty long for me. Dragon Age 2 juuuust made it with both DLCs.

Honestly, and I know I say this despite always racing to champion the whole "remember folks, everyone's pace is unique" cause, but that sounds a lot shorter than anything else I've ever heard re: Skyrim.

I would assume someone from bioware would also be somewhat familiar with how dragon age games work also.. no? So i could quite well believe that a completionist playthrough would take 150hrs.

It probably depends on how you define 'completionist.'

150 hrs.?!!! Really?!! :o
I love the long games, especially if it's Bioware games with interesting, intriguing storyline, with many wonderful followers! Thank you, Bioware! I'm so excited!  :)

I'm super excited, I love games where it takes me a long time to beat. I know dragon age, mass effect, elder scrolls are always my tops because they have always taken so much time and even then I can go into it again make a new character and have the same fun if not different all over again :)

To those who are sketchy, here's some math for you.

Let's imagine that at best they doubled the actual time needed to play all. So they actually clocked out at 75 hours, or heck let's give the worst case scenario for those who won't let the ending thing to from mass effect and bump that to 3 and make it 50 hours if you don't belive them.

That Is still a single playthrough with someone who has 1 the guide and 2 knows the mechanics of the game. 50 at worst is still a lot and that's with 1 race!!! I'm hopeful and can't wait bioware has always made great games and I haven't lost faith yet! (Not to sure bout shadow realms tho...but not enough to judge)

Really? DA 2 was barely 20 hours for me. Granted without dlcs but it was an absolute completionist run, so i don't see how the dlc can add that much more gameplay time.

Of course, but they would be stupid to downplay the length of the game. And i don't know about you, but i had no Bioware game ever were the actual time to complete the game was what bioware said it would be.

DA:O was supposed to take 100 hours to complete. First playthrough took me about 60 hours, subsequent playthroughs when i knew what i was doing took only 40 hours.

DA 2 was supposed to take 60 hours. As i said barely 20 for me.

All with every possible quest finished.

Not that i am complaining, DAO was plenty fun and i played it several times. DA  2 i consider a massive waste, since the game also wasn't fun to play.

Yeah, I was also around 60 on DA2 with its DLCs. Just barely hit it. It simply speaks volumes on approach. I ran around clearing areas every act, hoping to discover more content. I dawdled and walked around Kirkwall. Checked to see if and when Cullen had more to say. That kind of thing. It added up.

I have 180 hours in my current Skyrim playthrough, and I have roughly a third of the locations unvisited, 52 hours in my recent ME2 playthrough with most side quests not done.

In other words, game length is highly subjective.

Don't forget difficulty! I plan on playing nightmare, so I will have to think about my tactics, and my battles will last longer than battles say on easy or normal.

I'm not counting "reloads", but actual fights and tactics taking time.

I don't I mostly play JRPGS and I explore in those also, adventure is half the fun in those games not just story and the characters

This game is going to be insanely long for me.  I tend to try to do everything I can, take my time and dawdle and spend time doing silly things just because.  I think I had one character basically make out with Alistair for a good 30 minutes or more in succession... o.o

150 hours for a completionist playtrough in an open world rpg doesn't seem like a whole lot of content. And no modding tools aswell

"Open world RPG" is not synonym for Skyrim. Open world without content to fill it up doesn't mean much if all you do is run around pretty scenarios for hundreds of hours not really doing much of anything - I have over 3,000 hours (no that's not a typo) in Skyrim, mods and all, against about 100-120 hours in each Dragon Age game, and I'd still easily pick Dragon Age as the better game in terms of writing, characters, plot progression, lore clarity, memorable content, etc.

It's just how they work: DA is focused on content, TES is focused on flair. Both are great franchises, they're just trying to do completely different things. 150 hours may seem shorter compared to escapist timesink games, but for what DA is about, that sounds like a truckload of content.

The one playthrough of DA2 I had(sans DLCs barring Sebastian) was 51 hours.
