Wait, you could kill Merrill???
How, when? And why would anybody want to kill her?!
Yes you can. If you side with the templars, rival her and keep Anders alive you can kill her. And since I always kill Anders, I can't kill Merrill as well. Too bad

well,
Side with the templars and don't talk to her ever. (seriously if I ever talked to her even once I ended up with Hawke busting out some decent logic and she'd auto side with him.) Get her rivalry up a decent amount too. Don't let her be a friend.
So most players sided with the Templars then? If most players killed her?
If Mahariel tells Pol that "We hear the City Elves don't know what it means to be elven" in the Dalish Elf Origin he says "Back in the Alienage we hear the same thing about you." And of course there's a CE codex's condemnation of anyone who leaves the alienage to live among humans as having "thrown away being elven."
The Dalish Clans may be stateless and nomadic, but they are still the only remnant of an independent elven nation.
Ah I did the dalish origin like once. In that case turnabout's fair play.
Well yeah but that's leaving to be among humans. It's hardly a shock they'd call someone who did that a "race traitor" you get much the same thing with real world cultures.
I guess I could go with it.

No and no.
Most sided with the mages iirc.

Nope. ~86% of players tend to pick the boring goody two shoes option so they kept most of the companions (if not all) alive and did the mage ending.
Edit: before someone starts huffing this is general and me calling it a boring good two shoes option is a good natured ribbing.

Yeah, I thought it sounded strange when Master Warder Z_ said that most players killed Merrill.
Myself I always end up siding with the mages because the other choice are to extreme.

I think he meant most of his playthroughs
And your group called me Steelc*nt
furthermore, there was no homophobic or transphobic posting

i just realize I have yet to complete a playthrough where I sided with the mages ![]()

Every time I played as a mage I sided with the templars. When playing as a rogue or warrior, it was half and half.

XD
I've sided with both and I can defend both which is why I get annoyed when people act like only 1 can be justified. It all depends on your character's POV. I can have mages side with the templars, and templar like characters side with the mages. It varies.
I'm still baffled at the amount of people who cured the genophage with Wreav in charge. If that's not stupid good what is.
The elves gravitated to their own culture and religion, when given the chance. As for isolation, the Dales isolated themselves from neighboring Orlais, a nation created out of conquest because Drakon wanted to create an empire under the worship the Maker, while the clans tend to avoid contact with Andrastian humans, given how the Chantry outlawed their religion, some Andrastians threaten them to convert, the templars pursue them; it's basically an issue of outsiders being a threat to them.
The Dalish are basically the remnants of the Dales who were able to escape the Chantry forces, from all different classes; some, like General Rajmael, weren't able to escape, and perished in battle instead of submitting.
If the map in the OP is supposed to be indicative that the Dalish are settling those areas, it's possible some elves would leave to find sanctuary with the Dalish, as Lanaya and Pol did.
I hope so because we don't need another human nation who happen to have elf citizens. Given time the city elves will see things better when the Dalish are not some criminals in their eyes but the elves who kept something of their heritage to get back to.
But the elves of human nations are not seeking to restore their elven heritage, they want a better life where they are

I wouldn't consider picking the Mages the goody two shoes option, both sides were pretty bad

Yes, but I'm willing to bet that most players had Bethany in the Circle. That was my motivation for siding with the Mages in the canon playthrough.
And shanking Anders because Goddammit Anders!

I would side with the mages on my Rogue playthrough.
But so far I have never completed a Rogue xD

Ah true but it was the nicer option of both of them. And yeah a lot of players probably had Beth in the circle.

Was it tho? Atleast with the Templar ending there is order again in Kirkwall.

I think it was stated that most players sided with the mages, which I don't believe is what the writers intended.

I'll use the word loosely then ![]()

Yeah this. XD
Seriously tho one side has you siding with people who have been shown to have rapists and murders among them, the other bloodmages and oppressed people. Which one do you think is the stereotypical "good" option? ![]()
Yeah this. XD

The templars are clearly the victims here!
