Meredith had already gone over Elthina's head and appealed directly to the Divine for the Rite. If you leave Karras alive early, he tells you this whenever you visit the Gallows in Act 3. Given that the Divine was already concerned enough about the Mage situation to send her Hand to look into the matter, it seems like it was only a matter of time, regardless of what the Grand Cleric would have done. Anders just sped up the inevitable, and Meredith apparently thought she had enough proof even before a Mage murdered a bunch of innocent people in a terrorist act.

Not just "sped up". Turned the event against the Templars so mages find enough reason to accept rebellion.

Kirkwall was a powder keg awaiting a spark. Hawke was just the poor shmuck stuck with the blame.

Templar: Hey commander?

Old timey Knight Commander: Yes what is it?

Templar: You ever notice that Kirkwall is the worst city in Thedas? I mean seriously what with the demons, and the blood mages, and the demons...

OTKC: Yes yes yes what is your point?

Templar: Don't you think it might be a good idea to... you know... move the mages somewhere else?

OTKC: What?! No! That would make far too much sense! I'm sure nothing bad will come of keeping them here!

We had this with Krogan haters and when the statics came and showed than over 80% of players spared the Krogan race that was pretty much middle finger to haters.

I really hope not. Because if Merrill returns as a Keeper or something, it implies that my romance in DA2 between Her and Hawke didnt work out. That would be infuriating.

Hopefully we'll get a chance to continue the proud Dragon Age tradition of massacring dalish clans.

Hey, there were just as many Dalish clans at the end of my playthroughs as there were at the start.

I imagine Merril's clan survives but is struggling even if Hawke fought them.  Unlike Origins where the Warden and werewolves where systematically slaughtering every elf in the area, and crushing the skulls of babies and children while they screamed for their parents, Hawke was fighting to get to safety and there where probably more survivers then not.

In order for any society like a Dalish clan to survive there is going to need to be at least 100 members,  I always imagined there where a lot of elves you dont see in the camps, for the same reason the city isn't bustling with thousands of NPC's, to save resources.

Not really. Asunder makes it pretty clear that most people despise what Anders did, and that the wheels for the Mage rebellion were already in motion. His actions earned him nothing but disdain and were ultimately pointless.

The only thing he sped up was the Annulment itself.

I'd imagine a large part of that is due to the Krogan having two, potentially three, sympathetic characters to win people around in Wrex, Bakara, and Grunt. If someone doesn't like the Krogan species overall, they might like them enough to go for the cure. If someone doesn't like the Dalish though, there are not many characters that might win them over to not slaughtering them at every opportunity. Apart from Arianne (a bit) and Merrill (if the person isn't against blood magic too) we've not had many Dalish characters that could have a similar effect to Wrex.

Also with two out of the three dialogue options in DA2 leading to the clan throwing themselves suicidally at Hawke and co, I wonder how many people do have them alive or dead.

It'll be interesting to see if Merrill's clan pops up again, but I would prefer to see some different clans. Especially Dalish that have been hanging around Orlais. I want to see what they're like given it was Orlais that crushed the Dales.

Even Fiona agreed Anders was mad.

:P I think that's forgotten here.

You misunderstood. Mages were really angry that Templars annulled the circle because of actions of a mage who is not even associated with the circle in any way. Their feelings about Anders himself is irrelevant.

if Meredith annulled circle, say after she found out Orsino was a blood mage then it wouldn't have happened.

Not with my Hawke, he was  a bloody thirsty Crusader who killed all the Dalish heretics  :)

The fact she did find out he was a blood mage during the annulment was just forgotten right?

._. I'd have told folks that but that would make too much sense.

Also Hawke somewhat helped Merril kill their keeper. The fact that they stand down if you take responsibility was fine by me. What would Kirkwall do to Hawke if he was seen with Arishok killing the viscount?

It doesn't matter if she found out or no, that was not the reason she annulled the circle. We can't talk about what ifs here. It was obvious in Asunder that mages were furious Templars annulled the circle and they had no part in destruction of chantry. They annulled the circle because of destruction of chantry in which circle of magi had no part. This was one of the main motivators of rebellion and people like Fiona and Adrian used this incident to their full advantage.

A lot of people think criticizing the Dalish is criticism of them.  Then other posters notice this and start making fun of the Dailish to bait said people. Then the thread basically turns into a circular human centipede.

Reading through this thread, I can think of no better description of it than an endless circle of people sh***ing in each other's mouths.

Well that's what happens when self-righteous hypocrites and trolls are together in the same thread.  They feed on each other.

Normal adults don't troll aka bait on adult forums of adult games. Either they are not normal or they are not adults. (Age is irrelevant, maturity is the point)

If this thread is a human centipede, the question is, who is the unfortunate person in the center with their head up someone else's butt, while they simultaneously have someone else's head up their own butt.

That is the question.
