She told them because she felt they needed their own. She didn't tell them to spread it around like horror stories. But at the same time, how were they gonna trust her when she consorted with a demon? Though from hearing some of the dialogue about Mahariel, it makes me wonder if her turning to blood magic to learn abou the Eluvian was to come to terms to what happened to her best friends.
Merrill's Clan may be back! DALISH WARDEN! MERRILL! (SPOILERS!)

Yes. I don't recall where, but there's a dialogue choice were you say you'll make sure Merrill's Blood Magic won't hurt anyone else.
It's the bottom choice labeled "I take full responsibility"
It gets rivalry points for Merrill if you hadn't already locked her in as a friend or rival

Honestly Anders sounds more like he was huffing lyrium straight out of a vein then some revolutionary.
Yeah, he was more crazy at that point. I think he just was to tired of it all and just gave in to his dark side and Justice. There were no "For the revolution!" or "They can take our lives but they can never take out freedom!", just "It is done and now nobody can stop it." Throughout the game he wanted Elthina to step in and do something before it turned ugly but in the end he decided to stop her from stepping in and stopping it and make it worse. Not much left of the Anders I knew at that point. Or Justice, for that matter. ![]()

Yeah. The devs did their best to make you have a conflict with the clan by hiding the only peaceful answer and making you think it was one other. I don't think anybody made the right choice the first time unless they knew what to chose because a "I take full responsibility" just doesn't sound right for that scene.

Now I want to go back and play it through so I don't butcher them all...*sigh* hopefully Keep allows an option of where you can help Merril and not kill the clan.

You can help Merrill and finish the game without killing her clan. So I expect it will be in DA Keep.

I can already tell I am going to be spending hours in the Keep the same for the Character Creation. I just hope I don't make my Inquisitor look ducky...like I did with my Shepard.

Yeah, I'll also spend hours making my saves. Just hope I remember all I did.
Worse would be if I had to chose who were with my PC when I did things.
Mostly I'm worried about things be missing there. 300 sound so little.

They're the first one to take responsibility for Merrill's Blood Magic, or at least claim so.
I guess. I'm just not sure why it's believed.
Lol, exactly! I was like "Wait...Wait..WAIT...I-I'm the diplomatic Hawke...can we...um explain...please...pretty please?" Well we all know how that turned out
So how do you keep the clan from dying and help Merril, is that possible?
Just say you'll take responsibility for Merrill. Not sure which choice that is.

There should have been a clearly stated 'drop a smoke bomb and run like Batman' option tbh
Like, actually have that as the paraphrase and everything.

I have heard claims that you can escape the mountain only killing the aggressive elves that confront you and sparing the rest of the clan. I have never figured out how to do it myself though. I usually talk my way out of that situation.

You have to quickly run around to the path to your right and make your way to the exit that leads you to the map. There are a few elves that will follow you, so you have to kill them, but the rest will stay out of range, allowing you to leave. I don't know if the game actually accounts for whether or not some of them survived, but there it is.

You probably can't tick her as being dead unless you side with the templars. (I'd assume the same is true in the reverse for Fenris).
Worth it.

It's basically the bottom option. Merrill's pretty easy to max out her friendship, especially if you're doing a pro-mage playthrough, so by then, her friendship will probably be maxed out anyway making her immune to any rivalry points.

Yeah Merrill and Anders are really the easiest to max either way.
Worth it.

My last DA2 game I managed to max out Merrill's friendship in early Act2 even without being especially pro-mage.
It made things rather odd when I refused to give her the arulin'holm and she was already locked into the friendship path... ![]()

As its been described to me, theres a way to avoid killing all of them except the initial attackers. But again, I havent done it.
The best way to figure it out would be through Merrill's most mission dialog. I think her dialog is unique if the clan was killed.
Regardless, given how much of a pariah she was, id be surprised if she was able to return to her clan. (Though it didnt stop them with Tali.) Which is fine by me, because ill be unsatisfied if we see her introduced anywhere other then with Hawke in a hot-tub.

Did you have her as part of the group that ventured out often? Once Bethany was no longer part of the team, Merrill was the only mage I really took everywhere, because I didn't need mopey McHealer.

I wonder if my Inquisitor can get his hands on an Eluvian. Set up an eluvian in each of my keeps to help me keep tabs on my men, supply keeps that are under siege, reinforce the garrisons with more men, having quick exchanges of information.
Why, the utility is near endless. The works and artifacts of the elves are truly amazing, and Merrill's work will truly be the cornerstone in helping me build up my Inquisition.
Or course, since Tevinter seized such artifacts and only got fancy communicators yet Briala and Morrigan both transport people with ease probably means that I'll have to show my Inquisitor to be an elf friend to get such useful tools and their full utility.
Man, I love Merrill all the more, especially since her work on the eluvian has so clearly paid off.
Err, what actually makes you think that her work has paid off? She smashes the mirror on Rival path, or ends up empty-handed with dormant eluvian on Friend path, since instead of consulting with Audacity, Hawke and Co kill him. So, unless she's seeking another demon, her eluvian isn't working.

It would be kind of funny in a sad way if her Eluvian started working because of Briala.

I get why he jumps down your threat in a rivalry (well if you're not romancing him anyway) but I don't get why it's a flirt on friendship.
