Not forgetting that they in the end would throw away their lives in trying to kill Merrill believing she was evil. Marethari did many strange things and many wrong things, just like Merrill did. She should have realized how the clan would have reacted. I know she loved Merrill the most but did she really love her that much that she was willing to see the whole clan be doomed for her?

Sorry, I just couldn't stop myself. Cannon is the thing that go boom, it's canon. And danish is the people in Scandinavian country Denmark (I live in Sweden, next to it).

She spent her entire life living with her people. Kirkwall was completely unfamiliar to her. Its like making fun of Oghren for the fact that he isnt extremely knowledgeable about the Fade. Just because you are unfamiliar with one thing does not make you ignorant when it comes to completely unrelated subjects.

Eluvians, yes. But I'm not so sure about Merrill since you can kill her. But then again, you could cut of Leliana's head and she's still here. 
I doubt the Eluvians will figure in very much either, we may end up having to destroy them regardless

It seems one appeared in the last trailer, so at least they will be part of DA:I, but we don't know if they will be important or not.
However, I doubt Merrill will be important because of it. Let's be honest, her success with Eluvians is pretty much zero. Morrigan provides a much better source of information, since she managed to get them working by herself. Hell, now Briala, Celene, Michel and even Gaspard know more about the Eluvian network than she did in DA2. So either she became a real expert in this 4 years, or we shouldn't expect more than a reference by Varric if we take them to the Eluvian quest.

I could see us using them, and Merrill being Briala's right hand man. It'd be a great way for the Inquisition forces to get places fast.
