I was not a fan of that dialog myself. In order to not kill them, you have to diminish Merrill, which seems absurd, especially if you friend or friendmance her.

I don't remember being particularly friendly with her, so it didn't so much bother me that you had to throw her under the bus to not kill her clan. It just annoyed me that the dialog paraphrasing (to me) seemed like I would be throwing myself under the bus.

I'd strongly be surprised if it wasn't an option, to at least force the gathering to disperse if not outright attack it if its present in game.

Having a bunch of stingy elves loitering off the side of the road isn't good for commerce.

People like you make me sick. You're so edgy with your genocide fetish, arent you?

Chill. It's a video game.

Maybe the symbols aren't unique to a clan?

I don't know if that's been stated anywhere.

Great find!

I'm anxious to see how DAI handles the gathering of the Dalish Clans (Arlathvhen). Hopefully we'll get some cameos (like Ariane & Velanna) in there as well.

Fantasizing about killing an entire group of people is pretty messed up even if it is a video game.

maybe but flags tend to be unique to groups... kind of the purpose of them.

I don't see Bioware making world changing events like that

That makes me wonder what the default work state/Bioware's canon did in regards to the Merrill's Clan in DA2

Yeah isn't it like the 10 year gathering? At the last one Merrill was given to the Sabrae clan to be Marathari's first. She was previously from a clan in Nevarra.

Wait, she said she was 4 when the Alerion clan gave her to the Sabrae clan, wouldn't that mean she was 15 when we meet her in DA2?

I would assume they are dead since they said they were going to kill everyone they could to tie up loose ends...

???

She was an adult in DA:O... she appeared in the Dalish Warden origin.

a lot of dates and ages don't add up, like Anders in Kirkwall while simultaneously helping the warden commander, just gotta roll with it

My dalish warden can confirm that Merrill was an adult where it matters...

A poor assumption. It was a request for the option, not a statement that genocide was something they fantasized about.

This is a BioWare game, so choices are kind of a big deal.

"Racism is fine when its against a stand-in for a race and not an actual race!" No. Its still wrong.

It bothers me that elven characters never get to be edgy and genocidal themselves. For balance, there should be the ability to frolick into a human settlement all

stand in for a race?  I could see the dalish as analogous to a group like native americans, but a stand-in?

hmm, good point. I mean, if I recall the timeline of the first and second, the blight ended near the beginning of 9:31 Dragon and sixth months later, the events of awakening occurred, which would possibly mean that Anders was with the wardens only a short amount of time, give three or four months approximately, but when it comes to Anders, inconsistency is at its finest, so... yeah, you're right. I shouldn't over think it.

They've changed up/updated a lot of symbols. Especially the ability ones.

Generations of innocents cursed with lycanthropy is a good start. Old Zathrian knew what he was doing.

But, I'm off topic.

It would be interesting if we met up again with the Ferelden 'branch' of the Sabrae, in order to get their opinion of the events surrounding Marethari and Merrill.

Edit: I'm not going to lie, here, I prefer DA2 to Origins. While there are a lot of negatives one can say about the gameplay and disjointed plot writing, I play BioWare games mainly for the characters, and DA2's characters charmed me considerably more than anyone in the Origin's cast.

So anything they want to carry forward involving DA2's characters, I'm all for.
