You know?  Maybe if people dialed down the baiting and self-righteousness, we could actually discuss Merrill in a productive fashion.

Yep, that's how threads with 'Merrill' or 'Dalish' in the title always seem to go.

It be cool to see Merril again, haven't thought about it. Also, it looks like we get lounge wear for the skyhold! YAAAAAAAASSSSS!

I would personally love to see Merrril in the game although my cannon play through had her sticking to Hawk's side. It would be neat to get some exposition from here if she makes an appearance, however.

Merrill modeled in Frostbyte 3 plus Eva Myles' voice.  I am so very down with that.

I think those markers could represent camps. But all is up in the air at this point really. I would love the change to have them as an ally, that'd be cool!

I feel we'll at some point be given the choice of:

Celene
Gaspard

Spoiler

Well I would hope that Briala and the Dalish are separate faction choices.

Not to the above:

Ah the good old don't understand how to separate fiction from reality remarks. Those are always hilarious and sad.

Protip: Just because someone lols at a fictional races destruction doesn't mean they'll do the same for actual people. Some of us are aware of the differences between reality and fiction. Just cause you fail at it doesn't mean the rest of us do.

On topic: Merrill's clan being back would be interesting. I wonder who replaces them if Hawke wiped them out. Or if there's a difference if you didn't finish Merrill's character quests.

Ooh, I sure hope so
Sabrae clan is pretty much a digital family to me
Though.. Aren't they too close to Val Royeux? What are they doing in the Orlais?

I wouldn't put too much weight on any of the symbols on the map.  A lot of them could be placeholders.

When people knock off with the judging people in their RL off actions they take in a video game I will.

It's a game.

You can hardly commit genocide on pixels.

Not to mention we're as liable to get a choice to wipe out all the dalish as we are to wipe out all the mages. Future installments pretty much laugh at those options. So the whining about genocide to begin with is laughable.

Or what?

First off someone may have been raped.

Last I checked no one was dalish elf and had been killed by an overzealous Warden/Hawke.

One of these things are based in reality. One is not. I'm pretty sure you can see which.

Trying to compare the concept of someone talking about wiping out a fictional race to a crime that around 25% of the population experiences is laughable.

It is not about the dalish or not dalish, you can replace them with circle mages or even werewolves. It is about the concept of genocide and people finding joy in murdering whole families, cultures, clans, nations etc and saying it's okay just because it is fiction. Just like rape jokes when jokers say that it's okay, they're not raping anyone in real life after all. It's just fiction
And don't tell me the genocide is no real problem. That would be laughable

Jokes about genocide are tastless and are obvious baiting.  But implying or outright calling people who have a negative opinions of Dailish racists or homophobes is equally out of line.  It is self-righteous and tiresome.  Baiting should be ignored and reported, not used an an excuse the slap inflammatory labels at people with contrary opinions.

Oh yes. That clearly gives you a better point. Bravo.

Again these are fictional people. Not to mention I suppose you have an issue with murder in general? You do realize your PC kills people by the truckload right? You have such an issue with things like that why are you playing these games? Your companions are also murders and slavers but I guess that's okay cause they're characters right? But ra forbid a player act similar to them for the sake of gameplay? Cause ra forbid all of a sudden it's monster time. I hope using your logic you don't recruit anyone optional. Since you know they're all murders. Oooooh.

Also with rape jokes you don't know who around you has been raped. Rape victims don't exactly wear a sign on our head saying such. You're a lot likelier to tell at tasteless rape joke in the vicinity of a rape victim than you are to to make a genocide joke in front of a victim of that crime.

Also why would I say genocide isn't a real problem? It is. A serious one. But trying to compare a rape joke to killing a fictional race in a fictional game (and one clan at that) and acting as though this is some great crime is just...

The sad thing is I wouldn't be so bothered if your type didn't try to insult someone personally about what they do in a video game. I wouldn't need to make the don't know the difference between reality and fiction remarks if you lot managed to keep your insults to yourself.

Being rude to another user and insulting them by implying that the user is so dumb they can't tell the difference between reality and fiction is not against rules?
Feeding the argument which can result in this thread getting locked and people starting fighting is acceptable?
I'm no judge, but it seems these actions are of a troll

Some speculated the clan might have been rebuilt because some might have stayed in Ferelden

No kidding.  We slaughter hundreds over the course of the game.  We depopulated entire towns worth of people.  People need to learn to relax.  Don't want to talk about wiping out an elven clan?  Here's a tip:  Don't.  Just let it go, and guess what?  The conversation will naturally die.

You'd think people would have figured out after over 20 years of the internet and thousands of years of language that the quickest way to kill a conversation is simply to not respond to it.

That would be an interesting way to do it.  It allows for the content to remain, move value for their effort, yet maintains the illusion of choice.

If you managed to keep them from committing suicide by PC, you get the 'extra' of seeing the familiar names again.  If you didn't, then any side quest related to the clan would still be there, without the nice nostalgia glow.

I hope the fate of the clan (from DA2) is addressed, in any case.

That would make sense. I'd hope they got along better with the new ruler (maybe if Alistair is king? Even if Anora's queen with him?) so there could be differences there? Maybe more trusting of humans (not much for dalish but somewhat) and so on.

Merrill's clan may come back, but I don't think Merrill will be with them.  Even if you don't kill them, Merrill's connection to her clan is pretty much irrevocably sundered after Marithari's death.
