Why did all the Elves went back to their old culture when they had the chance? Tevinter abused them and destroyed their culture on a bigger scale and for a longer time but with time all of them eventually went back to the old ways. I'm not saying isolation is good or by "old ways"

The elves gravitated to their own culture and religion, when given the chance. As for isolation, the Dales isolated themselves from neighboring Orlais, a nation created out of conquest because Drakon wanted to create an empire under the worship the Maker, while the clans tend to avoid contact with Andrastian humans, given how the Chantry outlawed their religion, some Andrastians threaten them to convert, the templars pursue them; it's basically an issue of outsiders being a threat to them.

The Dalish are basically the remnants of the Dales who were able to escape the Chantry forces, from all different classes; some, like General Rajmael, weren't able to escape, and perished in battle instead of submitting.

I don't mean another Dales, I mean giving up human culture and adapting to their own. Its quite possible that many City Elves will join the Dalish once being a Dalish is not crime on Thedas and they are not looked down upon.

If the map in the OP is supposed to be indicative that the Dalish are settling those areas, it's possible some elves would leave to find sanctuary with the Dalish, as Lanaya and Pol did.

I'm moderating an elven group now due to how the elven threads in the public forums tend to go bad and derail off the tracks (so that people can talk about elven interests in peace), but I made an exception given the sincere attempt made by the OP.

I'm guessing this is invite only?

Kind of surprising how much hate goes along with anything involving elves. I think I've finally learned not to read any threads about the subject.

I don't know, I actually thought Merrill's rivalmance was the best.  I found it really sweet that despite the constant disagreements, Merrill still cared for Hawke.

It was sweet. But the romance dialogue at the beginning of the romance is just...awkward. (But then again I felt like that for everyone's romance that wasn't Fenris.) Don't get me started on Hawke's "WHAT ABOUT LOVE?" and "UNTIL THE DAY WE DIE." *shudders*

Lanaya didn't leave to find sanctuary with the dalish. She was enslaved a dalish elf killed her slavers and freed her and she decided to go with him rather than go back to her family and have them know what happened to her.

Yes, it's basically an issue that some of us like to discuss elven topics with other fans, so we formed our own group to avoid harassment, rather than deal with how the public threads continually get derailed without the moderators stepping in. It's becoming pointless to make elven threads in the public forums when the same people basically become nothing more than a cesspool of toxicity.

I think it's all about context, honestly.  Even Ander's overwrought dialogue seems appropriate when you understand his divided mental state.

Anders dialogue was fine cause yeah was a loon. It's Hawke's dialogue that I was O_o with.

Eh, I always picked sarcastic dialogue, so any awkwardness I attributed to the funnies.

Yeah the "want a sandwich" line was still bad but not as bad.

But yeah dalish are giving me bad flashbacks to the geth/quarian debates.

I sympathized with the Quarians really I did but their inept leadership and idiot ball holding made it really hard for me to give a damn about them being wiped out.

I'm going to laugh for a LONG time if the Dalish bite off more than they can chew in DAI thinking they can win.

A lot of people think criticizing the Dalish is criticism of them.  Then other posters notice this and start making fun of the Dailish to bait said people. Then the thread basically turns into a circular human centipede.

My emphasis was on Lanaya and Aneirin finding sanctuary with the Dalish.

Considering the majority of my Hawke's obliterated the clan, it really doesn't seem relevant.

Also the majority of the Hawke's killed Merril as well.

Wait, you could kill Merrill??? :o How, when? And why would anybody want to kill her?!

Ah fair point then.

That does go both ways of course. I guess despite all their grumbling elves are just elves in the end :P

Side with the templars and don't talk to her ever. (seriously if I ever talked to her even once I ended up with Hawke busting out some decent logic and she'd auto side with him.) Get her rivalry up a decent amount too. Don't let her be a friend.

Ice cold D:

I figure Hawke and Merrill's genes aren't that bad together. Hopefully their kid will look fully human like Alistair and not...like Feynriel.

I'm going to laugh for a LONG time if the Dalish bite off more than they can chew in DAI thinking they can win.

I will be laughing right along with you.

Particularly if they summon something to kill their enemies and it turns around and eats them instead.

Actually, the homophobic and transphobic comments in their group tend to cause some people of us to feel uncomfortable (as in their thread which was locked by BioWareMod02 because of that behavior), as well as organizing attacks on those of us who like the elves and try to talk about the civilly. It makes the public forums a very uncomfortable place, and simply leaves some of us to choose to keep a distance, instead of participate in the threads.

DA Fan made a genuine attempt to create a civil thread, and it's been derailed like every other elven thread made in the past few months. It's unfortunate, but it doesn't seem like this will stop happening until the moderators step in and do something about it.

Wait, there is a group for discussion of elves which does not welcome dalish-bashing? Dang, I want in

Nope I said it was pretty equally patronizing earlier. Also the CEs deny the dalish are actual elves?

True but they don't have anymore of a claim to that than the CEs do. They don't share the culture, they don't share the land. The only thing they have is...the blood. And CEs share that.

If Mahariel tells Pol that "We hear the City Elves don't know what it means to be elven" in the Dalish Elf Origin he says "Back in the Alienage we hear the same thing about you." And of course there's a CE codex's condemnation of anyone who leaves the alienage to live among humans as having "thrown away being elven."

The Dalish Clans may be stateless and nomadic, but they are still the only remnant of an independent elven nation.
