Here I present a list of modules retrieved from the old IGN Vault that never received the coveted Hall of Fame status, but still received generally favorable ratings. All had a score of at least 8 out of a possible 10 and gained a minimum of 3 votes; some received many more. The downloadable content has been retrieved from the old Vault archive and is now available from the NWN Vault via the links.

Are these half as good as their ratings? Well there's only one way to find out.

Have fun! :)

Thanks. Well, unfortunately, that was all that was available from the IGN Vault archive. There was a link as well, but it is broken. It looks like there was some mention of this in the archived comments. Not sure what can be done at this point...

Say I see you found that Islander campaign.

I had this on my to play list for some time now!

Btw what did it take for hall of fame at the end? 3k downloads and over 9 rating? I think I actually surpassed it shortly before the vault stopped letting new modules join up and it never happened. Oh well.

Is there some way for me to take possession of the link? My name is Eguintir on vault 2, and it says author Eguintir Eligard so maybe that's why it didn't join with me. Or maybe I need to change my name back to normal. Or maybe it doesn't matter at all since I plan no updates for it...

Contact one of the admins at the new Vault (Rolo et al) and they should be able to make you the author.

Yup, there's a list of Admins at the bottom of this page. They ought to be able to hook you right up.

Hail all.

Old timer long gone back with a little hobby time in real life.

There are probably a lot of reasons to play many or all of these mods; however I can personally speak to 5.

I consider these to be in the MUST PLAY list.

(Evidently I do have more to play)

Edinmoor:

An extremely well done module. Well written and immersive. Nice tidbits of Faerun lore.

I would also add that the overly unloved Dwarven race gets a little treatment here as I recall. If you tend not to roleplay Dwarves then this should be on your must play list to experience the benefits of Dwarves.

Harvest of Chaos : Kings Festival and Queens Harvest:

An older mod that plays well and ages well. No bugs and well written and scripted.

In fact I would nominate this for area lay out with excellent thought in party tactical combat. This one is a little lighter in roleplay admittedly and is more linear - there was only one henchman partial quest ; but it is no more or less than the source material that inspired it no doubt. It delivers just what the author promised. I saw many other mods as highly rated that were not this good. I would add it to my must play list.

North of the Moonsea:

Again another module that is quintessentially overlooked. A strong plot actually albeit one that tends to move you along more like the original campaign...it is linear. Never the less the NPC (s) were well developed especially the Sorceress and the Barbarian Tribes were very 'consistent' with Faerun lore.

Crimmor:

I hope that Crimmor is not so much overlooked but simply so new ; and sadly fragmented by the Vault/Nexus.

Crimmor is a must play. If the Maimed God taught me how to role play a cleric then Crimmor teaches you how to roleplay a theif ; it is that good. The author is noted for Path of Evil which is likely one of the top 5 mods of all time in NWN2 and he (she?) is noted to be a technical innovator as well.

The Greyspeaks:

This Greyspeaks module I admit was a "little buggy for me" in terms of the Henchman scripts and some of the fights. Henchmen that should not of joined me did ...died... lived... perhaps it was something in my override but in any event it did not ruin the mod. This mod was more hack and slash and it had some very interesting low powered look that seemed to be scripted by primary class of feat ? I recall a +1 long sword with +2 bludgeoning damage and a nice little write up for it. Not perfect by any stretch but a quality entry noted from an author who produced quality mods in the NWN1 game.

Speaking of the Maimed God Saga !! The point to Maimed God Saga reference is that my Cleric of Tyr (with Weapon Focus long sword) wandered the Greyspeaks mountains adventuring before being called upon to settle the events of N.... (spoilers for Maimed God). It was frankly a perfect mod as a set up regionally and roleplay wise.

Are PJ Modules not in a campaign format now ???

I think my mod folder has Lake of Sorrows and From this come strength in Campaign format ....

I know its on my queue...I started the series.

One should not judge this modules individually from this list (??) but ensure the are treated as a campaign.

My first module ended very well with that Ranger... (spoilers...stop)..

I think PJ work is also held in very high acclaim as "must play" and therefore should not be deemed "Overlooked" but perhaps "fragmented"..

Note that I named this list "overlooked" because a common recommendation for newcomers was to look at the IGN Vault's Hall of Fame list for the best modules. Hence, a new player might not have been exposed to these titles, at least not at first. The term "overlooked" here has little or nothing to do with the actual quality of the modules--merely their level of exposure.

Hopefully, as we get the new vault running and create whatever our own version of the Hall of Fame that we opt to do, modules can graduate from this list! Tales from the Lake of a Sorrows is absolutely a must play. Doesn't hurt to include it for now, along with Crimmor (which I haven't tried yet).

jfoxtail, thanks for the recommendations! Several of those are going on my to-play list!

Ahh... my apologies...

Well perhaps not.

I do mean what I said in that the 5 I can personally speak to are "Overlooked if not Hall of Fame'.

They are excellent modules in and of themselves that likely deserve HOF ; alas the community has been over taken by events.

I thank you rjshae for the list and your contributions to preserving the game through the new vault ; regardless of how defined the newer members that pick up the game should be exposed to some if not all of these mods.

(My  paltry recommendations are from an older player who loves Faerun settings, with bits of proper lore, and clean writing. I like roleplay)

For old friends anything...  B)

If you still have your blog from days of yore... I think I may have posted an odd " Themed Campaigns" ala our days as buddies in NWN1.

Notes on posts you wrote.

The idea being to take a newly developed protagonist from one mod to the next with a "regional / lore / character theme" to tie them together.

Most of them scaled well if you were a level or two high or low; and you choose to utilize appropriate Magic with the Authors recommendation.

Just off the top of my head:

Greyspeaks >> Maimed God Saga

Fate of a City >> Harp & Chrysanthemum

Harvest of Chaos >> Trinity

Icewind Dales >> White Plume Mountain (it scaled reasonably well except for boss fights)

jfoxtail, yep, the blog is alive and well, although the lack of traffic makes it basically a private diary.  I don't mind that, however.

I did a quick google, and found this mention on my H&C review:

http://berliad.blogs...273621620089771

I haven't tried Icewind Dale yet.  Or Baldur's Gate, either.  I tend to stay away from huge time commitments, I guess.  But I've heard great things.  BGR came out just as Beamdog released BGEE, and I played the latter. :)
