^Well even it was bannable before, now I guess it's not any more. You can't ban a player because he downloaded a singleplayer mod and unlocked the console by chance, then discovered that he could say hi to his friends using text chat, it's just not reasonable

BroJo (or another BioWare employee, anyway) explicitly said it's a bannable offense.

Using text chat is bannable?

^I guess he mean "using console" broadly, but yes, banning people because they use text chat is just ridiculous, even back in the days when the game was officially supported.

Well console makes some sense, since it can do all sorts of things I guess.

Yup, one of the Bioware devs said console text chat specifically was bannable.  Can't find the old topic in my quick searching, possibly deleted on the forum move.  There was a lot of support for getting it officially supported, but it never happened sadly.  So while you may not be banned now, be aware it is within the realm of possibility.

Banning for communicating? This is disgusting.

It was probably more for enabling console than the actual chat, but who knows?

I couldn't recall the details at the time, but you're correct, and it was BroJo (at least in one of the threads I just read through). I had forgotten how often this topic came up back then.

Apologies in advance for trying to use logic here but wouldn't it be, um, logical for Bioware--who presumably monitors their own forum--to make a comment here saying DON'T do it, before some people reading this go ahead and turn on text chat? Or condonement through inaction? Not expecting anything but now would be the time...

The whole story is merely about a singleplayer mod on Nexus, if you install it the console will be enabled as a by-product, plus it's a very "primitive" console so few commands actually work, and all I asked is whether other people can see chat messages, not "why don't we all enable the console now?".

Well, If anybody got banned for this, then I just want to say "Biovar plz..."

There is no such thing as primitive console, a lot of functions produce no visual output regardless of how you unlock your console -- most Stat commands included.

I was wondering about that too, thanks for pointing out, this explains why "stat fps" and similar commands does nothing.

I had that impression from another UE3 game, Borderlands 2, where you're free to use the console but can do little things with it, because most commands are locked, I call it the "primitive console", well I guess ME3 is not the same then.

I think its more to do with busting your way into UE3 console that the problem lay. You can literally give yourself any weapon in the game. Or give the enemies any weapon in the game...

True, never interested in those "functions" tho, you've given me ideas. Maybe I'm gonna try the Geth Prime's cannon some day when I'm really bored, in a private lobby of course :P

I wonder if some old ME1 syntax might work.

Cursor over Collector Captain:

give target sfxgamecontent.sfxweapon_sniperrifle_javelin

something like that maybe. :)

That would be really interesting, though I wonder how enemy a.i. would take anvantage of the weapon's penetration.

Thing is, you suffer from base cooldown.

Wait, so this is actually possible

If you're not hosting, I don't think anyone can see you using the power because the power doesn't do anything off host, but on host I'm sure it works.
