Fair point, though you have to admit that what the OP is suggesting is not average for the BSN and its many 'preference-threads'. As has been pointed out, many people came in here expecting something else than the OP actually provided. The suggestion made here quickly conjures up thoughts of psychopathic and sadistic behaviour within the game.
Let me ask this question: why is this 'feature' necessary? Why would we be able to keep "Cole's eyes as a trophy", as I quote from the OP? What is the point? The only one I'm seeing is sadistic and psychopathic fullfilment/pleasure. You could argue that people want to roleplay their Inquisitors like that, but such an argument could then also be made for sexual abuse, rape, torture and gruesome ways of murder.
The line of what is acceptable has to be drawn somewhere, and I believe that the things suggested here cross that line. And with me many others, I believe, which comes through in the shocked and negative responses this thread has gotten.
I made a post on my thoughts 2 pages earlier and I pretty much disagree with the focused premise of the op even though I wouldn't object if it actually was in the game. But I like the idea and a more practical application of such a feature which I expanded on.
I agree that keeping the eyes for the sake of it points to psychopathic behavior (which is perfectly fine with me as far as video games go), but it can be more. For example keeping Cole's eyes may be a way to express remorse for killing him and force yourself to remember by keeping them on display. Also I can think of more practical applications like psychological war, witchcraft, which I think would be cool if the game actually included them.
The way I see it is that violence is violence. In the vast majority of rpg games you have the option to kill for the wrong reasons or just because you like killing virtual people. I don't need the game to shield me from it the same way I don't want it to go out of the way to introduce it. That's the only line I consider, the intention of the developers. Everything else is just politics.
I don't really think that it crosses some moral line that Bioware doesn't want to cross. Thinking back at DA2 with mother's death for example although we were spared the details and the ending had something of a bittersweet conclusion with more emphasis on bitter
.
The world of Thedas is full of psychopaths and you can play your character as one to an extend. Comparing torture and sexual abuse at face value with keeping trophies from slain enemies is pretty minor. It's the extra baggage, the association with serial murderers and the like that make it more than it needs to be. I see your point though even if I think that ultimately they are different concepts.
PS. As for people that expected something different, I sympathize, but it's their decision to become involved afterwards, isn't it? I doubt that this is anywhere near the most offensive thread in the BSN ^^
