So the default Hawke appearance won't be forced on us?

They've said we can customize Hawke's appearance.
IF we were going to have one of your previous characters appear, we would absolutely give you a chance to change his or her look.
That was Hawke that appeared in the trailer. Players will be able to have Hawke look appropriate/gender via customization.

I'm pretty sure they said the opposite - IE the look could be customized with the keep.
Perhaps when the save games get uploaded, the keep sorts it out there.

Unless some new information came to light in the last couple of days since I'm no longer very active here, no that's not the case. The lack of customization is only for the Keep, while Mike Laidlaw said you can bet your bottom there'd be a customization for previous characters if they were to appear (and since one appearance is confirmed, we have that).

Well, I doubt Hawke will look exactly like s/he did in DA2 because of the Engine change, I'm assuming we'll be recreating Hawke in the character generator.
Of course, you can't hold BioWare responsible for your modded Hawke if that's the course you went, I'd say a solution would be just to have a little checkbox that says "I used Hawke Mods" which permanently sticks a helmet on him/her, but I've seen mods where Hawke is a bipedal talking dragon so...

That's what i heard as well, if needed i'll post the article they said that in, unless they are liars like Zenimax with ESO, "Play with your Friends", that was crap, bc of phasing, with questing.

That does not make sense. If we cant customize their appearance in The Keep, then how do we do it?
Probably standard character gen, the same one we use making our own character.
I think a bigger question would be: "At what time would this customization take place?" In the initial character creator? Just before we see Hawke (Which would kind of spoil the moment I think)

I'm sure we would just use the standard character gen for them at some point before they appear.
(or what Deflagratio just said...

This. Either at the beginning of the game or sometime during the game.

I think it would make sense to do it when you choose which world state you want to use for import. The only downside to that is that it means it will take even longer to start playing, because you're customizing two characters instead of just one.

The keep only imports the choices. Customization would be something in the game proper. I imagine that it'd ask you if you want a custom Warden or something, and if you check it off instead of customizing one character you customize two or three.
Here's what we know:
1) The customization cannot be done in the Keep.
2) Mike Laidlaw assured us that customization of previous characters will definitely happen if they were to appear. Since it can't happen in the Keep because the Keep can't support it, it would have to be moved to the main game.
See here and here, and there's an image I posted of some tweets about the Keep in one of the story threads. too lazy to get it.
Most likely, default Hawke was used because it was something people would recognize instantly. Of course, the Champion armor would've been enough for that, but meh...
EDIT: Ah, the tweets were already added previously. Damn ninjas...

Also that quote from Mike just implies that we can choose the gender, not actual face appearance.
There's a slash there - so "look appropriate" and "gender", not just gender.

Here's a scenario:
The Inquisitor might have a dream about Hawke, but not know it's Hawke. Then he or she will describe this person (Hawke), via the same character creator used for the Inquisitor, to someone (such as Varric or Cullen, who both met Hawke) in the Inquisition (who will presumably recognize it was Hawke being described).

The fact he mentioned customization and "looking appropriate" as being separate from the gender implies otherwise. Strongly, in fact.

I hope it's a dirty dream.

That's creepy. More likely Varric will end up doing a story in which you get to use the character creation and play through and then later on Hawke actually appears in the current game

This is assuming that Varric is a permanent member of the Inquisition, of course. Leliana, Cullen, and possibly Cassandra also knew Hawke.

ssshhhh, its a secret, you will be customizing 3 at the beginning, warden, then hawke then inquisitor. ![]()
I would do it myself.
And that isn't anything said, just me, my own self saying it.

Cullen would then be the only confirmed member of the Inquisition to have known Hawke, except maybe Cassandra (if that cut dialogue from DA2 is any indication).
Cut dialogue?

Customization in the game is what I'd suspect.
