So the default Hawke appearance won't be forced on us?

"Forced", what offended language. What is this The Deer Hunter? Did you expect Bioware to have you in a Vietnamese prison yelling "di di mau" and pointing an AK at your head until you took the DAI loaded with default Hawke?

... Ahem, but yeah they've been pretty clear that Hawke customization is go.

It wouldn't surprise me if "look appropriate" means, hair, eyes and skin color only.

But if we do get to use CC, I can imagine something like this:
- gets a quest
- starting quest the Inquisitor asks Varric what Hawke looks like. Varric starts describing...
- we get to create our "appropriate" custom Hawke

:)

I suspect that "appropriate look/gender" probably means this:

- default face for the gender you selected

- appropriate armor / weapon for the class you selected

and that's it. The same default / appropriate look you got in the very first part of Varric's tale in DA2, before the CC was even fired up.

Hope they have some form on character creator in the keep so I can work on recreating my hawke's once it goes live. I'm going to need quite some time to get their appearance right.

They've confirmed there's no character creator inside the Keep. If one will exist, it'll be in the main game somehow.

Hadn't heard that. Thanks for news. Not ideal, hope it'll be at initial set up stage.
guess I'm going to have to print screenshots of my hawke's to work from on launch day.

I hope it's got some depth to it in general. I'm definitely skidding on the side of caution here and bracing for it to be what some have worried over -- race/class selections.

Can't believe they'd not be aware how important appearance is. If they are allowing player input I'd think they'd allow full facial/hair manipulation.

I'm just bracing, really! :P

Well really, my DA2 file features the default male Hawke, anyway, but I'm bracing for forum explosion lest that occur.

I never use the defaults, so I'd be combustible.

"have Hawke look appropriate/gender via customization"

Yeah thats pretty vague; "look appropriate" doesn't necessarily mean "customize". Sounds like he is playing a word game there.
And customization very much does mean customize. It sounds more like you and others are playing a word game.

Yeah, I figure most BioWare fans big enough to post on forums are probably also big on getting everything just right, too. It'd certainly be unfortunate.

My question is: Since the games used different engines, how would it even be possible to customize your previous characters into frostbyte graphics? Due to differences in graphics and style, it would be impossible to recreate warden / Hawke appearance perfectly into a copy in frostbyte wouldnt it?

Existing characters(Varric etc) don't look identical to da2. They look recognisable, so using character creator we should be able to create a hawke that looks identifiable as our hawke.

DA:I use different engine it's impossible for the character to look the same as the previous game, but they will indeed look recognizable like you said.

I don't really care if I get to make my 'Hawke' look like my Gawke cause... my Inquisitor will ultimately look like that. If I got to make all 3, and all 3 showed up, well, there would be clones. And that well that'd just get weird. So I'll probably end up going default or just get creative with Hawke instead of trying to do something similar to what I did in DA2.

That said what I REALLY hope we get the option for in the keep for import purposes? Hawkes personality leaning. I wanna be able to set one of my Hawkes (if not all of them) to full Snarky. I'm sure I'll also make an jackass Hawke and all diplomaticy Hawke but... mmmm Snarky Hawke.

I admit, I'm going to be a little disappointed if we can't set Hawke's dominant tone. There should really be one more Purple!Hawke one-liner for old time's sake.

Here's a scenario:

The Inquisitor might have a dream about Hawke, but not know it's Hawke. Then he or she will describe this person (Hawke), via the same character creator used for the Inquisitor, to someone (such as Varric or Cullen, who both met Hawke) in the Inquisition (who will presumably recognize it was Hawke being described).

i'd go with reading about Hawke on a journal and then customize Hawke's face (maybe even play as Hawke for a few minutes while everything is silent except the Inquisitor who is narrating/reading what Hawke is doing, think Bastion for reference. you could also pick Hawke's dialog choices but instead of hearing Hawke you hear the narration of the Inquisitor of what you chose)

During this whole silent segment I'd go with this for a background theme

But i guess a dream works too

This. Either at the beginning of the game or sometime during the game.

If I'm going to make a guess, I'd say we'll get to do it during the process of importing the world state from the Keep and into the game.

For the last several playthroughs, I've been using the default Hawke appearance, sans the ketchup, and since I have too many playthroughs to have one that's "my official," or even several, I think I'm going to be perfectly fine with the default Hawke.

Obviously, for those who modded Hawke's appearance, it will be different, since it's highly unlikely that you can import the modding resources.

I also must say, with my numerous playthroughs in mind, I am getting more and more used to the idea of importing a world state, instead of a specific save game, and I was positive to it from the start. I hope the Mass Effect team picks up on this.

My LadyHwake had the awesome 3 pony-tails hair style. Hopefully that will make a return or it just won't be her...  :-\

Would really hope Beth/Carver return also (so long as they survive of course).

meh i can easily recreate characters, and the graphics are better in DA:I than any mods for the other games so they wont be needed as much, Based on what ive seen the textures are good enough for me not to need mods, and i doubt the stuff we have seen is on maximal graphics. I would love for us to be able to customize our hawke, i mentioned in earlier that i figured from certain things they've said it wont be the case based on the keep faq, but it could just be that it would be too complicated to carry a look over into a worldstate because its going to be used for other games, but that wont preclude you from creating the look in the game itself after you've imported the world state, it would be nice if they werent so vague all the time. Of course they could still be figuring it all out for now.

I always used default Hawke appearance because let's be honest Without mods no one can make a better looking Hawke then the default appearance

I disagree. I never used mods when I created Hawke, I thought they gave the player pretty good options. As for the HoF, I modded the crap out of him! Otherwise the hair looked carved from wood and the eyes just made him look like he was constipated :(

I don't care so much about customizing my warden in DAI, but I really want to recreate my Hawke!

I don't care what he looks like as long as gender and class can be set I'm happy. In my canon DA2 playthrough Hawke went off with Anders does that mean he may show up too?

I actually used both the male and female default appearances for Hawke so I won't have to customize them.

Now, if The Hero of Ferelden ("THE" Warden) appears and we have to customize him/her, then there might be a problem, lol. I don't even remember what my original Warden looked like, except that he had the same hair color, skin color, and eye color as me.

They've said on multible occassions and now with the new trailer have said again that we will be able to customize their gender and appearance. They've made it quite clear. Don't worry.

I have multible custom Hawkes, but the first world state I will import has the default male Hawke, and I'm pretty curious to see how he'll look in the new engine.
