When you think about it, pretty much all the families for the various Origins... well, origins were decently fleshed out. We outright meet the Cousland, Tabris, Aeducan, and Brosca families, Mahariel's parentage is revealed through exposition, and the Amell family is expanded upon in Dragon Age 2. Surana, though? Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

It's been confirmed that none of the player characters are genetically tied to previous PCs, but what are the chances that we can at least meet someone from Surana's family SOMEWHERE in Inquisition, if only to flesh out some of Surana's canonical background?

I dunno, I like it better when they don't show us too much family because it can feel odd when our character may end up looking..nothing like their family. Most left at least one parent out so we could imagine they took after the missing parent, but if you see both it can be a bit weird.

I still want to find out more about the Amell siblings but yeah, I'm all for learning more about the Surana family tree.

I think too much time has passed for it to matter anymore.

I think Surana's background is supposed to be "doesn't know anything about their family". I'm for fleshed out and complex worlds, but not all horizons need to be visited.

I'd kind of like to see one of the other mage children of Revka Amell in passing, even if it's just a blink-and-you'll-miss-it type easter egg as one of the combatants in a Mage-Templar scuffle that you probably won't notice if you murder them fast enough. (You monster!)

As for Surana, I've always liked the idea of them actually being a captured Dalish Elf, an idea which I've seen crop up a few times in various fan-fiction. I dunno why, even though we never hear any surnames of Alienage folk (except Tabris), Surana sounds far more like it'd be a Dalish surname to me?

Had to wiki who that family name was for....  a mage taken from family or has no family. I don't think its that important to find about those certain elves in Inquisition to be honest. Not saying elves are unimportant, don't think it matters for the Inquisitor on the Wardens family who most likely is dead, as they seem to end up anyways with children taken from families, Not saying all, but don't find the need to know.

During the mage origin you can talk to an elven apprentice about where you're from; your options are the Denerim alienage, Highever, I don't care, and I think one other. I infer from this that any other Surana family members are Ferelden.

IIRC Lothering was the other option.

A female Surana is my "canon" playthrough, and I enjoy the fact you never find out anything about her family. It's a total blank slate. And after all this time I kinda crafted a backstory for her. I don't think we'll ever find out more about the Surana family and I'm okay with that.

I always played my Surana's origin as the polar opposite of Lanya's. A Dalish mage that was taken from their clan by the Templars and installed in the Circle. He was too young to remember much less get his Vallaslin.

So was Amell, really.

Just because the Warden doesn't know her family, doesn't mean they don't exist.

Sure, but there is supposed to be an entire world that exists. My point is there is no particular need to explore this element to the story over any other potential element.

Though I wouldn't mind if they did decide to add a character from the family.

Always assumed that an Elf mage was from an alienage or the child of an Elven servants. Probably taken so young that they know their name and little else.

It might be having no information is kind of the point though. Many mages have no idea where their families are now or if they're even alive. Some are even sent to entirely different countries.

If they're going to flesh out families, I'd much rather they do so with the Inquisitor's family, not the Warden's.

Meh, don't care. DA2 set a precedent that I wish it hadn't.

It does seem that BioWare's main interest in having a family is killing them off.

Yeah, I would love to one of our Amell Warden's siblings or two in a small cameo. Of course they would have to look similar to our Warden. And as Surana, you can choose your background when talking to another elf in the circle, I said Denerim Alienage so that means I was a city elf so I would hope the Keep recognizes that and goes from there to allow dive into their family tree.

True, but they can at least give some backstory to the Surana family (based on your choice in the circle dialogue with the elf) and a small cameo with an Amell sibling.

I'm with Maria on this one, sort of. I think I'd like The Inquisitor's family ties to be a little open to interpretation too, though.

What precedent? 'Returning family' or families in general, because Cousland, Tabris, Aeducan, Brosca...

Ugh, don't remind me. DA2 being advertised with stuff like, "Yeah, have a family, get to know them and live with them yadda yadda"

True story, everyone dies. :/
