So the devs have made it clear that we will have a fair bit of latitude in how we relate to/deal with our companions, but does anyone know if they have stated anything similar for the returning characters. I don't mean the option to just murderknife whichever NPC's appear (allthough I have a single save file with a live anders just asking for it) but if they survive an appear in-game, do we have to associate/deal with them, or can we just sorta ignore them/leave them be?

Returning character: I'm here to help!

Cheesecakequisitor: That's... that's nice why don't you go spy on Tevinter mages, I'm sure they won't find you....

RC: Okay!

Not sure you can kill or ask your advisors to leave...

Depend on their role and circumstance? For example if you spare Anders and side with the Mages in DA:II then it's very likely he'll lead a group of apostate somewhere fighting the Red Templar or try to blow another chantry, and the Inquisition may have to deal with him.

In this scenario you'll be given a choice to side with the Mages or the Red Templar? Talk Anders down before things get nasty? or try to arrest Anders for his past crime? I'm pretty sure you will get a chance to associate or murder returning character outright.

Anders reaction would be the most interesting, IF he returns (in case alive from DA2)

Associating with someone like Morrigan might be mandatory, but I don't know if you have to continue dealing with her beyond the first meeting.  With characters like Ferelden's ruler, you might meet them once or twice, but I have no idea whether or not that type of mission would be optional...

These cameos may be difficult to predict based on what character we're talking about and their importance to Thedas.  You will know in advance who you will be meeting if your quest is "Speak to the Ruler of Ferelden," but any number of random past adventurers might show up during a quest like "Investigate the Old Temple."
