Some of the posts I've seen around here recently have implied (suggested, maybe) that some people have their own ritual around playing this game, or others. for example, wearing a particular accessory or item, having a lucky token with one, placing a small shrine of Shepard next to where one plays, that kind of thing.

 

So I wondered if that's true and if so, what do people do?

 

I'm happy to go first. Although I don't have any ME3 rituals, apart from sitting cross-legged on the sofa sipping coffee while playing, but I'm not sure that counts. but when I play TF2, I always make sure I'm wearing a hat. Any kind of hat that comes to hand. The reason will be obvious to anyone who has any knowledge of TF2.

 

So, how do you prepare yourself to play ME3?

While the game is loading, I get a coke or if I'm in the mood, a beer and a bag of ginger snap cookies. When I start playing, my ladyfriend puts hers legs across my lap while she does whatever on her laptop and one of the cats headbutts me

I also like listening to music while playing. Sometimes, it feels odd playing without music.

I don't have a ritual. I usually play while listening to the radio and often while... pedaling on my stationary bike lol. Of course, no one can outscore me while I'm on my stationary bike (the old timers must remember this thread ha ha) !

Ritual?

 

This is the dark ritual I perform:

 

Load the game;

Alt-tab to desktop, let Origin go offline;

Go back in game, hit ok when it says disconnected;

Alt-tab again and let Origin go online;

Play the game.

Really? Cos I think that's why they designed the loading screens to take so long - so you would have time to make coffee and use the bathroom between clicking ready and loading in to the LZ.

i whisper "Chuck Norris" in front of my monitor and not on the mic, the game just goes from the ready screen to the score screen with my score at infinity squared to the fourth dimension.

Normally I'll have a beer handy but I'm not drinking while my wife is pregnant so now I rely on my randomizer and friends. Game is much more fun when you play with friends with mics. I'll be back to my beer in late September or early October.

Tap down on controller to multiplayer, tap X.

Tie dirty sock in a bandanna around my head.

My ME3 routine:

 

Stop all torrents, and politely ask my flatmate to do the same.

Darken the room. Any way possible.

Optimise temperature stability and air flow through careful adjustments to the doors, windows and curtains.

Optimise volume. 15 after 10pm, 18 before. If using wireless headphones, set TV to 100 and control manually on the actual headphones.

Pee whilst 'Checking Downloadable content'.

Bong whilst loading into multiplayer.

Coffee whilst trying to decide on a kit.

 

In between matches, if I liked the lobby then I immediately select the character and equipment I want to use, so everyone can adjust accordingly. I hate it when people change their character at the last minute, especially if it messes up the team synergy. If I didn't like the lobby, quit.

 

Before every match I pee and have a bong. I play ME3 so much that I now pee every half hour or so habitually. It's kinda out of hand lol

I could have read all the Twilight novels, associated fan fiction and gnawed my arms off at the inanity of it all in the combined time I've spent sitting in an empty lobby.

The first thing I do is check my friends list for annoying people I want to avoid.  If any of them are online I set myself to "Appear offline" and search for random pugs until someone decent comes on

my ritual seems to be to immediately hate origin, then hate the match making system where 9 out of 10 match searches are me thrown into an on-going game wave 1.
