Whether a story is told well is more important than novelty, imo

How about both?

player has no impact on story, it's linear and that will never change. it has to be engaging, and that's enough for me (i was never a huge fan of BW writing, tho the DA2 arc, the construction itself was amazing imho.. and leave it at that).

i'm not expecting anything new from DA:I storywise. solid alchemy of familiar templates is what they do best - for chars or the plot itself (with small exception of DA2, tho the dialogues, chars...). and that's a good thing, knowing your craft and all that. not everyone has to be innovative, right? you'll be fighting mobs most of the time anyway.

Hmm... making an original story is one thing, making an original story told in a video game is another.

I would like to see a game where the main character will be viewed in Thedosian history as the villain, even if the hero's intentions were good/noble... especially if they were good/noble, just the circumstances would make them the villain to all who hear the tale from future bards. Edit: Oh, Maker, I just realized this was Hawke... HA!

Bringing moral dilemmas is always fun in BW games.

Has there been a fantasy game that had humans in it who later disappeared or died off? Not that I'd want that in DA...

Speaking of plot twists, I enjoyed the one involving the main character in FFX.

They could do more with the blight, have it be a kind of anti-Fade like I've been hoping, an alternative, darker, metaphysical state/realm/thing.

They could reveal that the original elves were spiritual beings that took on material bodies when the Veil was created. Not original, though.

I don't know, I'm not sure I want them to try to be really original. I like the stories to just be fun and interesting with good characters. If they come up with something original, great, if they stick with tried and true archetypes and tropes, that's cool, too.
