Relationships that feel like relationships

One thing I'd really like is for relationships to continue beyond the predetermined scenes.  If you're in a relationship with someone in game I'd like their dialogue to reflect it throughout the relationship.  I'd also like affection to not be limited to predetermined scenes.  As campy as it was in dragon age origins, I'd much rather that to a single scene of affection.

If I feel like being affectionate, I like being able to kiss my significant other, or if we've had sex, kiss and fade to black.  Just anything that shows the relationships exist more than just in a few set scenes.  I know it seems a bit silly in that kissing the person often or never doesn't actually effect the relationship in game itself, but for some of us, it makes it feel more real and substantial.

Dragon Age 2 relationships felt really odd...  they felt like they kinda existed but not really.

I hope I'm making sense.

You could do this in Origins already.

Yes I mentioned that, but dragon age 2 stepped away from it, so that creates a real fear that, that change will stay.  I'm making it known I'd like to go back to those things because it makes the relationship exist outside the cut scenes.

Well, unlike the marriage stuff in the other thread this option was already present in the past games so we already know how it would work if brought back.

Yes but if no one says anything about liking it, or being disappointed when it wasn't included in the second game, how is anyone to know what people think of it.  This thread is for whether others liked it/disliked it, want to see it put back into the game.  Why?  Why not? Ect.

Is called positive reinforcement.  I really liked this aspect of Origins and was really sad at how non interactive my character's love interest was in two.  I really liked and want that part of origins to return.

Not talking about/asking for something that was good because it already once before is a silly concept.  Good things should be encouraged to stay, or be brought back when they are taken out.  Otherwise we're just randomly doing different things with no rhyme or reason.

In two it felt like a very one sided relationship, it existed when, only when and only on the npc's terms.  We could only really react.

I agree. This was one more thing DA2 'borrowed' from Mass Effect. 3 conversations and sex.No interaction other than that. I hope they realize now DA doesn't have to emulate ME2 to be liked by fans.

I hope so too...  It feels so cold to go up to my lover in game and get no real response or ability to do anything. :(  It feels so cold and impersonal :(

Overall, I actually liked the relationships between Hawke and the Companions, friendship and otherwise, more in DA2 than I did in DAO. But I agree that I'd like my SO's dialog to change slightly if we're in a completed relationship.

But you wouldn't want to be able to kiss them, or anything else?  Just possibly walk up to them and they say the same line whatever is back to you when you click on them and that's all?

I want to be able to have my character do something affectionate back.  Is why I like the kiss thing.  It allows for my character to be affectionate and have them be affectionate back, and it doesn't just go away and fall into the void.

Even if I rarely do it, the knowledge I can and it's not just over and in the background, makes a huge psychological difference for me.  It feels continuous.

I was agreeing with you, but if you're going to take what I said like that I suppose that's it for my participation in this thread.

The "relationships" in DA2 were odd indeed. While you could only talk to your companions in a few predetermined scenes or when you were granted an audience via a "quest", the game still implied that everyone was best buddies (or best enemies). When you visited companions, you'd occasionally find another party member there paying them a visit. It was like most of the group's relationships were actually happening offscreen.

I'm no big romance fan (anymore), but DA:O did a few things right that were sadly missing in DA2. Kissing your love interest (which was nothing but an "unlocked" conversation option and animation that could be accessed whenever) was a simple yet effective way of making it feel more genuine.

I apologize I misunderstood how you were meaning it.  It felt like you were saying it already happened so there's no point in such a thread.  My mistake, I'm sorry.

Exactly this, just a simple little thing, and for someone like me, it means so much.  It gave just the right amount of illusion that it was still ongoing and that you were an active participant in the relationship.

I did like the implied stuff in conversations between party members, that was a great thing in 2, I loved how everyone felt like they existed outside just the scenes we're in.  The main problem with doing just that with relationships is they are so much more personal, and require a mutual touch.

I think I've seen someone say that they're bringing back the option to talk to our companions when we so choose (like in DAO), not everywhere, but in certain locations...probably camp and skyhold. This makes me think we won't be limited to just a few predetermined conversations with extra words if romanced, like in DA2, but we might get our choice to kiss/flirt/ect again at times.

If the "kiss at anytime outside of combat" thing is brought back, i hope its not restricted to the straight romances only like it was in Origins. I wouldn't think it would be fair if a male romancing Cassandra could kiss at anytime & anywhere when outside of combat but a female romancing Sera couldn't kiss at all or was just restricted to the main party base.

It wasn't though, Zevran had the same options for men and women.

I'm pretty sure you could kiss Leliana anywhere too once you locked in that romance, and I only romanced her with a fem warden.

Don't forget in me2/me3 you and the Li are almost always on duty so you have to keep things professional in that case it also extends to ragon age but I do not see any problems in showing effection when alone for example or maybe even when ones not fighting the big bad

Well I didn't really mean just anywhere...  though there are some characters where on duty PDA wouldn't be all that surprising or unexpected.  Not everyone cares about following the rules/others opinions.

You couldn't, only Morrigan & Alistair had the option to kiss anywhere. Leliana & Zevran were restricted to kissing only if asked to go to bed in the party camp.

That's actually the reason why I've never felt comfortable using the "kiss anywhere" option outside of camp.  It feels like really poor leadership to be standing around making out when we're in the middle of a dungeon crawl.  I don't begrudge anyone else who wants it, but it's not a feature I ever took advantage of.

I do hope, though, that there will be some party banter that makes reference to our relationship status.  Silly things like someone trying to press Iron Bull on how he and the Inquisitor... make things happen.

Well sure, but at camp or in private is another matter.  Just because life sucks doesn't mean people stop living.  In fact it's when things are at it's worst we need each other most.  Not being able to do it anywhere at all is kind of sad. :(

I to vote for a return of more fleshed out relationships with not just the LI but all party members when in camp/keep. That said I don't think they removed this in DA2 because they felt it was needed but more a result of an extra short development time.

In ME2 you could invite yur lover up to your cabin and either sit on the couch with them or lay in bed together

not much more to it than that, but there it is
