As someone who spends an inordinate number of hours reading lore within games, I'm curious how Bioware is going to handle this in Inquisition.

Will codex entries automatically be logged as we advance the story? Will there be books a la the Elder Scrolls series?

It's been so long since I have played Origins and DA II that I don't even remember how it worked in those games. Can't recall ever being able to pick up books and hall them around with me (well, with the exception of Flemeth's Grimoire).

If given the option, my character will probably end up resembling Xenon the Antiquarian.

Automatically logged.

During one of the demos, fighting a ghost unlocked 'Codex Entry: Wrath' while having a conversation unlocked 'Codex Entry: Avvar.'

I expect there will also be books you click on to have entries added to your codex, though nothing like the physical books you get in TES.

Uh-oh I sorta hope they don't do it like in Skyrim, I got kinda obsessive trying to collect and find all those books. Two houses filled with em!

As for the codex, I didn't read half of the info in em only a select few bits of info here and there.

There were no lore books in past DA games, just codex entries when you clicked on something.  Some of them were longer than others, but they were usually no more than a few paragraphs... nothing on the scale of "A Dance in Fire" from TES, for example.  There definitely weren't any bookstores...

It would be nice if they broke the mold a bit and let us have some kind of library in Skyhold this time... I've heard people suggesting moving the codex menu to an in-game location, but the idea got mixed reviews (good arguments on both sides).

Yeah, I would love that. I suspect a library in Skyhold would meet with a mixed reception, though, just like libraries do in the real world hehe.

I guess it makes sense that Bioware doesn't see the need to include full length books in the game. They place more emphasis on narrative and story than Bethesda, so they probably feel like, "Hey, we're already covering that aspect of the game in spades." Bethesda, on the other hand, focuses more on environment and exploration, and I think their books are meant to appease the minority of Elder Scrolls fans who appreciate lore binging.

There are codex entries that are automatically unlocked as you progress, fight and explore, and there are books, notes, etc that are put in your codex when the inquisitor finds them and interacts with them. They don't go into an inventory, but they are saved forever and can be read at any time. Same  as in DAO and DA2.

I really enjoy the codex entries.

Unfortunately, I don't read them all in game. I tend to read a select amount that interest me, then mostly just use the Wikia.

I'm so glad that Shoddycast is going to do a DA lore series, their Bethesda ones were entertaining.

I'd like to be able to read codexs on the go, but I like the idea of a library slowly filling with books and potentially giving passive bonuses? A library to be used by all of the inquisitions forces.

I like that they're automatically logged, I'd also like to collect physical books so we could have our own little library at Skyhold.

Let me guess. You built a library for your Hearthfire house... or mod whatever.

I hope they're easier to navigate through. It was almost a chore to track something down in DA:O's and DA2's Codex Journal unless you played on PC.

I did... The bookcases have a tendency to eat the books when hungry. It is rather inconvenient.

Lol, nah never played Hearthfire, that was just Skyrim sims basically.  I packed my books into my houses in Solitude and Whiterun... I read most of em. Didn't collect them all though, I tried but I had to quit before I went completely off the deep-end. :P

The Dragonborn expansion added a lot of books from Morrowind. That was awesome. Got to go back and read a lot of the stuff I was too young to understand at the time.

And Hearthfire is cool cuz you has minions to guard your cribz.
