Madness? This. Is. THEDAS!!!!
I still remember stumbling upon these guys, deep in the caverns. I couldn't believe there was actually anyone alive down there, much less an entire cult.

I love Kolgrim as a character, he's the perfect balance of charismatic and zealous with a dash of unhinged-ness that every cult leader worth their salt needs to have. I went both ways on my first/only playthrough thanks to reloading, and I ultimately wound up not defiling the ashes in the end because I wanted to keep my whole party together for the endgame just in case, and because I wanted to see if I could take down the dragon.
If I were to play again though, I'd probably side with Kolgrim. I'm a sucker for those sorts of "apocryphal" proto-religions that paved the way for the more dominant form of the religion later on, or for marginalized religions in general (especially ones with roots in venerating the natural world in some form [which a dragon is, I think, in this case]).
And anything that rustles The Guardian's jimmies is a-okay in my book. I hated that guy. "You've killed thousands of Darkspawn. But now, as the Blight ravages the world, you must prove yourself by... solving riddles! Oh, and also this obnoxious bridge puzzle. What, you wanted another spin on the Towers of Hanoi? Go to Korriban, heathen."

Yeah...he's dead in nearly all of my playthroughs except for my Anti-Chantry mage who kept him around as a big **** you! to the Chantry and their "holy" prophet.

Honestly its like expecting the Mormons to offend the Catholics.
Admittedly the very scenario i described has occurred before but still.

I made this post over in the "Beard" thread and felt compelled to share it here:
If I could give my Inquisitor a Kolgrim beard and RP like Kolgrim got blasted into the Fade and made Inquisitor (provided he doesn't show up as himself in DAI if you let him live), that would be hilarious and awesome.
I'd get to spend the whole game yelling at people for believing in the Chantry, while simultaneously glorying in everyone calling me the "Herald of Andraste".
Make it happen, Bioware!

True, but I think most members of the Chantry would be horrified to know that their prophet's ashes were drowned in dragon's blood. That's what my Warden liked to see.
Your analogy to Catholicism and Mormonism is not incorrect though. Without starting a religious flame war, I think many Christians don't consider Mormonism a part of their faith. Likewise, the Chantry would call Kolgrim and his associates'cultists' and 'heretics'.

Kolgrim doesn't make a very strong case for siding with him when you first meet him. Hell, he doesn't even make a strong case for you to even listen to what he has to say at all with his crazy rambling for a greeting. The first couple of times I played Origins I didn't even knew about defiling the ashes as I had killed Kolgrim on the spot, the first time I learned he offered the chance to defile the ashes was in the wiki.
Siding with Kolgrim on Origins always felt a bit like doing something "for the lulz", i.e trolling. Being an atheist myself, I wish there was some way to demonstrate desbelief in religious symbols that didn't involve being a jerk on a zealot's behalf, that was a bit contradictory.
And, @TheDarkKnightReturns, I saw that theory you linked and I think I have a couple of things to add to it:
-Dumat was the Dragon of Silence, and he possibly reincarneted in a woman who one of the main accomplishments was to sing. I don't know much about this "antithesis reincarnation" thing(or even if it is the right term lol), but this seems to fit it.
-Also about singing, the Old Gods are known to sing a magical melody of some kind. Andraste's teachings come in the form of a chant, or in other words: a song. And both of them seem to inspire thousands, albeit in a completly different fashion.
Coincidence?

I would assume most people killed him. Because I have faith in humanity.
If not... well, we know that the meeting is being held in/near Haven. Remember the warm reception they gave us, 4 travelers? Imagine what they would do against an army. They're probably all dead. Even if they weren't immediately hostile, the Chantry would soon realize how messed up they are and put an end to them.
Dragon Worshipping violent cultists mocking Chantry traditions aren't looked on with favour ![]()

I don't think I have a single save where dis dood didn't get shanked.
Interested where his Guardian doppelganger is though.
I always suspected that because of their similar appearance, the Guardian may have been a distant ancestor of Kolgrim.
It would definitely explain why the Guardian speaks with such derision when referring to the ancestor of Kolgrim who fancied himself a prophet, because he's ashamed that his family were responsible for twisting the teachings of Andraste and turning the faithful into a bloodthirsty dragon-cult?

I wonder how companions will react to you essentially using a form of blood magic.
I wonder if Cassandra will have any special dialogue being nevarran.
