It's that time again and only 4 games left to decide who's going to the playoffs.  :o  :D

So which teams have staying power and can keep injuries from cropping and draining earlier success? Who are the late bloomers? And, who is just plain pooped? Here are my picks for week 14:

Dallas Cowboys(8-4) over Chicago Bears(5-7) I keep harping on about Tony Romo's back injury, received on 10/27 because it usually takes 4 to 6 week for a transverse process fracture to heal. If his fractures don't heal properly, he could possibly end up with some chronic, ongoing back pain... It should be remembered too, that Dallas lost to the Philadelphia Eagles last week at home, 33 to 10. The only reason I'm picking them is because they'll be playing the Chicago Bears, who are a weak opponent even at home in Chicago. That and Dallas's aching quarterback also has the support of team mates like Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray, who appear to be in good shape. I do want to emphasize that there seems to be some real upset potential here and I don't feel overly certain about how this game is going to go.

Cincinnati Bengals(8-3-1) over Pittsburgh Steeler(7-5) The Steelers lost last week to the New Orleans Saints and this will be a road game for them. It's been a while since weeks 8 and 9, when they briefly started to look like a strong team. I'm wondering if they have more injuries than they're letting on. it doesn't look like they've been playing up to their potential...

St. Louis Rams(5-7) over Washington Redskins((3-9) The Rams will be on the road, but the Redskins are tired.

Tennessee Titans(2-10)over the New York Giants(3-9) The Giants were beaten by the Jaguars last week. I'm picking this game for an upset because the Giants have morphed into something barely recognizable and the Titans will have home advantage.

New Orleans Saints(5-7) over Carolina Panthers(3-8-1) The Saints just beat the Steelers last week and they will be playing this game at home as well.

Minnesota Vikings(5-7) over New York Jets(2-10) Another Vikings home game and I don't see any reason why they shouldn't handle the Jets this week like they did the Panthers last week. Still, don't rule out an upset.

To be continued, I'll finish this tomorrow morning...

Went 9-4 last week, but missed Thursday's picks. Anywho...

Dallas over Chi-town: Bears just do not have an answer to all the weapons on the Cowboys' offense, I think.

Steelers over Bengals: it is just so hard to pinpoint the Steelers on any given week; this week I am just going with the opposite of what I expect.

Rams over Redskins: tough defensive matchup should negate Washington's new-QB advantage.

Giants over Titans: two pretty equally-mediocre squads, but I think NYG has the clear talent lean.

Saints over Panthers: looks like NO is taking back the division.

Jets over Vikings: this will be an ugly game, I think, but I expect the Jets' D to give the rookie QB fits.

Dolphins over Ravens: on the road after a heart-breaking loss, Ravens are a tough sell here.

Colts over Browns: despite getting the start, Hoyer has been rather poor for the past four weeks.

Lions over Bucs: ... what can I say? This is arguably the league's worst starting-QB facing arguably the league's best defense.

Texans over Jags: with help from their strong D, the Texans' lack of a legitimate starting QB should not be an issue.

Broncos over Bills: Buffalo certainly has the defense to match-up, but the Orton-led offense is unlikely to do enough to pull a win.

Chiefs over Cardinals: there's a reason Stanton is not starting in this league, folks.

Seattle over Philadelphia: the running game will decide the winner, and I expect Seattle to benefit from some opportune turnovers.

Oakland over SanFran: do not ask.

San Diego over New England: Chargers are equipped to replicate the Packers' winning strategy over New England.

Packers over Falcons: ATL has been hot as of late, but upsets of this magnitude do not typically come on Primetime.

The rest of my week 14 picks:

Miami Dolphins(7-5) over Baltimore Ravens(7-5) The Ravens' problems, sadly are not over.
http://www.nfl.com/n...ur-games-by-nfl

Indianapolis Colts(8-4) over Cleveland Browns(7-5) I think Cleveland will regret not starting Johnny Manziel this week. duh...

Detroit Lions(8-4) over Tampa Bay Buccaneers(2-10) Into the Lions Den they will go.

Houston Texans(6-6) over Jacksonville Jaguars(2-10) The Jaguars may have beaten the Giants last week, but I don't think they're ready to take down Houston even at home.

Denver Broncos(9-3) over Buffalo Bills(7-5) The Broncos are one of those teams unbeaten at home so far this season. They handed Kansas City their butt last week. The Bills will be lucky just to do damage control.

Arizona Cardinals(9-3) over Kansas City Chiefs(7-5) This was not an easy choice considering what happened in Atlanta last week. But the Cardinals are unbeaten at home so far and Kansas City is showing about as much wear and tear as Arizona is.

Seattle Seahawks(8-4) over Philadelphia Eagles(9-3) Because they're my team. But on the road, against Philadelphia, I'm more than a little apprehensive. I really wish the Seahawks had been less cocky about beating the 49ers last week.

San Francisco 49ers(7-5) over Oakland Raiders(1-11) I would love to see the Raiders pull another upset, but the 49ers have probably got this one.

New England Patriots(9-3) over San Diego Chargers(8-4) I think the Patriots will be tougher against the Chargers than they were against the Packers in Green Bay last week. The reenergized Chargers will be at home though, so this could go either way.

Green Bay Packers(9-3) over Atlanta Falcons(5-7) This will not be pretty. Especially with the Packers unbeaten at home and just having beaten the Patriots...

I may return to add comments or correct grammar. I will not change my picks unless well before game time. Have fun!

I'll pick Dallas over Chicago right now; other picks will be coming later in the week (it's a pretty tough slate of games this week; I'll have to think about them a bit more).

Dallas Cowboys beat Chicago Bears, 41 to 28

30 second before half time, the game turned distinctly in Dallas's favor and remain there for the rest of the game. They can still entertain possible wild card play off hopes. Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall apparently has broken ribs.

It was good to see Dallas overcome their poor performance on Thanksgiving to beat Chicago. I need Seattle to beat Philly on Sunday so that both Cowboys and Eagles will be tied in their division even though I picked Philly to win

Cincinatti over Pittsburgh: Very little confidence in this pick (especially with how high-variance Pittsburgh has been), but I think Cincy's going to win this game and take this division.
Indianapolis over Cleveland: Since losing Alex Mack, the Browns have lost their identity; what can they really hang their hat on in terms of passing, running, defending, etc.?
Detroit over Tampa Bay: Hard to see Tampa Bay scoring much over this Lions D.
NYG over Tennessee: On the one hand, the Giants (along with the Ravens) have probably burned me more than any other team on these picks, but on the other hand, picking against Tennessee has been my most reliable strategy.
Baltimore over Miami: Yep, picking the Ravens again. They're evenly matched, but what tips the balance for me is that Miami doesn't have the ability to exploit the Ravens' biggest weakness, which is their vulnerability to the deep ball.
Minnesota over NYJ: The Jets just aren't any good.
New Orleans over Carolina: This could be one of those divisional games that turns out surprisingly close (and the Saints actually have not been great at home this year), but I can't pick the Panthers in good conscience with the way they've been playing.
Houston over Jacksonville: A fluky win over the Giants is not going to change my mind about what Jacksonville is as a team.
Kansas City over Arizona: Minor upset pick here; Arizona can't seem to get anything going offensively, and KC's dink-and-dunk passing game might be a good way to play against the strength of AZ, which is its secondary.
SF over Oakland: Does this require any explanation at all?
Seattle over Philly: What Mark Sanchez has done so far has been impressive (especially considering the legacy he left with the Jets), but I don't expect him to be turnover-free against the Legion of Boom.
New England over San Diego: Just think that NE's the more complete team.
Green Bay over Atlanta: Despite a surprising win over the Cardinals, they're not in the same league as the Packers in any area of the game.

Here's an NFL article detailing the injury list going into this Sunday:
http://www.nfl.com/n...s-injury-report

Remember how I mentioned Brandon Marshall and broken ribs? He left Thursday's game with not only broken ribs, but also with a punctured lung. Poor guy, out for the season. Now the Bears are even weaker.

Here's a link for anyone whose interested in a sports writing career. From what I've read, some these guys have just as many problems with accuracy in their picks as we do.  :P

the biggest surprise of the day

Not to toot my own horn, but after the 9ers scored only 3 against Seattle, I expected Oakland to smell blood in the water -- I picked the Raiders this week. Biggest shocker for me was NO getting embarrassed by Carolina -- at home, no less. Was not expecting that.

Sunday 12/7 final game:

New England Patriots beat San Diego Chargers, 23 to 14
http://www.nfl.com/g...40691&tab=recap
http://www.nfl.com/n...eating-chargers

The score was Patriots 13, Chargers 14 for a large portion of the game. The Patriots were finally able to start scoring again with about 9 minutes left to the 4th quarter and then the game was theirs. The Chargers were not tough enough to win here, but they did play well.

Here's a summary of week 14 so far:

I can't believe the Giants won today, I've nearly forgotten how it feels.

And OBJ should win the ORoY on NFL Honors...

Since my team is the Panthers, I wasn't surprised.  About time Carolinas offense made some noise and their defense played like they did last season. Not sure if it will be enough to win the division. Only time will tell. They need for Atlanta and New Orleans to play badly for the rest of the season and Carolina to win the rest of their games

The Atlanta Falcons played surprisingly well considering they were playing the Packers at Lambeau field in the snow. But the Packers won, and still remain undefeated at home...

This just happened today, I'm so sorry. He's got two fractured transverse process, similar to Tony Romo's 10/27 injury. And with only three games left to the season...
