"any given sunday you win or you lose"  The colts showed up today and the Broncos didn't.  3 minutes left I wont count them out till its over but it doesn't look good.

Because that could be the greatest speech from maybe the greatest football movie so far.

Well stated. Final score: Indianapolis Colts beat Denver Broncos, 24 to 13.

If Manning does end up retiring it will certainly feel weird him not being in the league, even though he is a shell of his former self now.

Some thoughts on the weekend games... New England appeared to be headed to another early postseason upset at the hands of Baltimore early in the game, and Carolina kept it close with Seattle longer than I thought they would, but the final scores of both games matched about what I had expected they would be. Just a reminder that there are four quarters of game to play (at least). Whatever the scores may show in the first three quarters, it truly ain't over 'til the final gun.

On that note, what a thrilling win for Green Bay!! I was on the edge of my seat for almost the entire game, but I believed they could hang in there and pull a win despite Aaron's nagging injury and some early mishaps, and more importantly, the team believed they could as well and kept it together. IMO, Dallas had the strongest offense we could have faced in the playoffs, but ours would prove better yet and we are a stronger home team than they are a road team.

As for Dez Bryant's non-catch... it never looked to me like he had solid possession of the football, and the way it popped out (even just for a moment) at the end kind of proved to me that he really did not have it, either. I love Dez as much as I can love someone not on my team and I admired the effort, but I do not think he caught it. Besides, even if they were granted the catch and went on to score a TD, it still would have been a one-score game with enough time left for Green Bay to have won the game or tied it (if DAL scored TD + 2pt) with just a FG.

I am surprised, but not shocked, that Indy got the better of Denver. In what I saw of Denver late in the season, Peyton looked to be on his last legs (or arm, as the case may be). I had expected that getting the week to rest and having established more of a running game would translate to an offense that could survive his declining play. Guess not. Time to hang 'em up, Peyton.

 On to next week!!

** AFCCG: New England over Indianapolis.

When these teams faced off in the regular season, I said Andrew Luck's carelessness with the football will cost his team against New England's defense. Now it's the postseason, where the effects of such mistakes are compounded, and where having greater playoff experience than your opponent typically translates to playing better football than them. Also, that game was at Lucas Oil Field. This one's at Foxboro. I would much rather the Packers face (and defeat) the Colts in the SuperBowl, but I just do not see it.

** NFCCG: Green Bay Packers over Seattle SEACHICKENS!!! ('been waiting all season to say that... sorry, katiefrost).

Honestly, this game might as well be the SuperBowl. Neither of the AFC teams remaining offers a better all-around match-up than this one.

Up to now, I've picked GB every week, but I am not one to pick my team simply out of loyalty. Were I posting picks ITT earlier, I would have called @SEA and @DET as L's, I just did not feel similarly about any game since Week 3. While I feel much better about this match-up than I did in Week 1, I am torn over who will come out on top. On one hand, Seattle's HFA is formidable, and Rodgers loses some of the "special" in his game without mobility. On the other, Seattle has not faced any competent offense in some time. If any playoff team can get the better of this vaunted defense, it's ours.

Today's game showed me the importance of believing in one's self. Granted, belief alone does not win games, but it does go a long way to it. Besides, correctly picking them to win will make the victory that much sweeter. So, Green Bay it is!  :)

The big question now is: Who will experience a wardrobe malfunction at the half-time show, Lenny Kravitz or Katy Perry?

Experts pick Seattle vs Patriots (compiled source: http://topbet.eu/new...-patriots.html)which seems like a foregone conclusion at this point, especially in the NFC where Rodgers is on his last leg (literal, and bad, pun). In the end, I think we’ll see the first Super Bowl repeat champions since...well…the Pats. Even as a Pats fan, I think Seattle and Wilson are just too damn good right now.

Ha! We'll see who's the sea chicken! LOL Seriously, either the Packers or the Patriots are just as likely to take the Super Bowl as the Seahawks right now. The Packers' main worry is Aaron Rodgers' knee and how long it will hold up. It didn't keep them from whupping up on the Cowboys last Sunday...
Count on the Hawks to do their best to make a repeat happen. They just might do it. Now, if they can just get through this weekend...
I'm picking:
New England Patriots over Indianapolis Colts... The Colts look like they have a bright future ahead of them with Andrew Luck and crew, but not yet.
AND
Seattle Seahawk over Green Bay Packers... Sea Chickens indeed! Come on, Legion of Boom!  :wizard:

Take a look at Tom Brady's Face Book page, he is really trolling the Colts! https://www.facebook...?type=1

The Super Bowl half time show should be great:

I wonder who else will be joining them?

The Denver/Indianapolis game was the most shocking of the week by far. Beyond the poor performance by Peyton, what was most surprising was the protection that Indy's offensive line was able to provide against Denver's vaunted pass rush. If you told me that the Colts would be able to line up five wide receivers against Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware and have time to throw, I would not have believed you, but that's exactly what happened.

The story coming out now is that Peyton played the last month of the season with a torn right quad, which would do a fair amount to explain the dip in his performance over that period. The Colts' gameplan was, "Make Peyton beat us with his arm," and it worked. As a football fan, that makes me kinda sad. Whatever you might think of his postseason struggles (I tend to think that the "can't get it done in the big games" is frequently overstated), he's had a brilliant career and it would be a downer to have it end like this.

Meanwhile, the whole Denver organization is in turmoil, with John Fox having been fired after going 46-18 and winning four division titles in four seasons. Offensive coordinator Adam Gase will likely be hired away from the Broncos organization as a head coach, and the team will have to make a lot of tough decisions about which of its expensive free agent signings to keep and which to let go. This team was built to win this year, and when you don't win, you suffer the consequences.

Picks for next week (went 2-2 last week):

Seattle over Green Bay: I think HYR makes a good point about Seattle not having faced a good offense over the last few weeks; the Carolina game was closer than it looked for a long stretch, with Carolina getting a few drives deep in Seattle territory but not resulting in points. But this defense still has championship pedigree, the game will be in Seattle, and Russell Wilson has been lights out over the past few weeks (against Carolina, he went 8 of 8 for 199 yards and three touchdowns on third down). Against an average-at-best Green Bay defensive unit, that should be enough to win a close game.

New England over Indianapolis: Tom Brady was absolutely brilliant last week against a scary Baltimore team. I don't think Indianapolis can generate the pass rush necessary to get him off his game at all. Andrew Luck is a great QB, but this team has never shown anything against New England in their past three meetings. With the win, Tom Brady would surpass John Elway by appearing in a record sixth Super Bowl; I think you can make a really strong case for him as the best QB ever.

I'm curious about this coaching transaction:
As we've all read, Jets coach Rex Ryan was fired along with Jets GM John Idizik at the end of the regular season. Rex Ryan goes on to sign a 5 year contract worth 27.5 million with the Buffalo Bills less than 2 weeks later. If the Bills feel Rex Ryan might be able to help them, I could understand a 1 year contract with a conditional renewal option. But a 5 year contract after the season he just had with the Jets? What am I missing here?

Wow. I hope he's innocent. It needs to be carefully investigated. There are those who would have a lot to gain if something like this were true and that will make the investigation more complicated.

Even if he is, it will still be a distraction for the Colts organizattion. Hopefully it won't effect the team come Sunday.

Imagine paying about $300,000.00 in fines to date for being overweight? At least they're tax deductible...

A couple random points here:

RE: The Tuck rule

I think the thing to remember here is that when you look at the career of most, if not all great QBs, an element of luck was necessary to get those careers to the points they reached. Would Joe Montana have four Super Bowl rings if Lewis Billups doesn't drop a sure interception in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XXIII? Would Terry Bradshaw have any if not for the Immaculate Reception? How would it have affected Roger Staubach's career trajectory if Drew Pearson had been called for pushing off of Nate Wright on that famous Hail Mary play against the Vikings in 1975? The list goes on like this.

The only difference with Brady is that he's still playing. We have a tendency to remember the past with rose-colored glasses because we just remember the highlights from their careers, whereas we see both Brady's triumphant, not-so-triumphant, and just plain lucky moments right before our eyes. I'm not trying to say that the old-time greats aren't as great as we thought; they are. But if we applied the same standards to everyone that some of these critics want to apply to Brady, Manning and company, we'd be putting asterisks next to every single name in the record book.

RE: Rex Ryan

The Bills are obviously trying to build around their defense; Buffalo had the second-ranked defense in DVOA this past season, and was in the top five the year before under coordinator Mike Pettine (current Browns head coach, and former coordinator under Ryan with the Ravens and Jets). The problem is that their offense has no chance at all to be good this year. Kyle Orton retired, and with the Bills having traded their first-round pick to the Browns in order to acquire Sammy Watkins, they don't have much chance to upgrade at that position, as pickings are slim among the free agent crop of QBs. The Bills don't have the offensive line to develop the running game necessary to hide their quarterback either. Newly hired offensive coordinator Greg Roman , along with Jim Harbaugh, did very impressive work developing both Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick for the 49er's, but this is a much bigger reclamation project. The Bills will have to win games by margins of 13-10 and the like next year.

RE: Josh McNary

I just hope that one way or another, justice gets served in this case. I also hope that the Colts organization finds a better way to handle this than the way the Ravens handled Ray Rice's domestic abuse case. Without knowing the facts of the case, I don't feel comfortable saying much more than that.
