Thanks for pointing this out. I was thinking that if this had been similar to the Olympic games, there would be a gold, silver and bronze medal awarded. The second and third best teams in the NFL would be awarded silver and bronze, respectively. The way it works in reality is that the second and third best teams end up getting more negative attention than some of the mediocre teams who never made the play offs.
I'm not going to discuss the Patriots in detail until I more fully recover my objectivity. But I will point out that it took a good decade for the Patriots to get back to Super bowl champion status, during which time many people didn't think they could do it with Brady and Belichick. So, critics should take care about the assumptions they make about any team's future.
Edit: And yes, Tom Brady has set a very high standard for future quarterbacks.
Yeah they forget all about the great moments and acomplishments that got the team to the Super Bowl in the first place. Your considered a complete failure if you don't win, even if your team went 16-0 in the regular season. Believe me I've been through this same experience twice before myself.
I think everybody in New England believed Brady and Belichick could bring home another championship and if not with Brady still with Bill Belichic. I think you have to live here to understand it but Bill Belichick is a legend here, he is like the Dos Equis guy. I believe he has more of an obsessive cult like "In Bill we trust" following maybe even more than Tom Brady. If Tom brady never got rolling after the begining this football seasons dismal start, changes would have been made. Maybe this season would have been tough and the super bowl completely out of the question but i think this team still would have been a tough competive football team. Maybe even a playoff team most likely bounced after the first round though. Alot of people forget about 2008. Tom Brady went down with a season ending knee injury in week 2. Bill Belichick coached that team to an 11-5 record with Matt Cassels playing quarter back, that is an acomplishment in itself.
Tom Brady is human, he is going to show his age one day and it isn't going to be pretty. This year at age 37 he had a slow start. People around here thought that this was begining of his decline and where calling for Jimmy Garoppolo to make a few starts. Nobody even whispered a word about replacing Bill Belichick or that it was time to move on to a new direction with the coaching staff. Bill Belichick is going to be the head coach of the New England Patriots untill Bill Belichick says he isn't.
