Considering making a new Hawke for Inquisition?

I just finished DA2. I played through the entire game on hard mode because I want my Hawke to be a skilled hero, not just some normal difficulty level slouch.  For the most part I succeeded in this. I played as a Spirit Healer. Being a healer made combat long and boring but it was still an effective way of playing. I cleared the entire game on hard mode, with little difficulty, and felt satisfied bringing this Hawke into Inquisition. Then came the blasted DLC's!

Legacy and Mark of the Assassin were both far more difficult than the main game. I was able to beat them but I had a rough time doing it. The trouble my Hawke had with both DLC's left a bad taste in my mouth and now I'm considering trying to make a new and better Hawke.

What do you guys think? Is having problems with two DLC's worth making a new Hawke over or am I being too hard on my Spirit Healer?

Well, I don't consider it bad thing to do another Hawke play thru, I will be once my dwarf finishes up her quests. However, if its to transport from that to DA:I, then no need to bother. Set the world states in The Keep and in DA:I cc your Hawke.

You can make your Hawke whatever you want them to be in The Keep without having to go through a complete new playthrough. You can't transfer your Hawke directly anyway, and I don't think the difficulty level you play on in DA2 makes any difference in DA:I. But hey, new playthroughs are fun just because, anyway. :P

There's really no importing Hawke into Inquisition?

No direct imports. The Keep is where will make world states to be transferred into DA:I.  Hawke is confirmed and was said they will be customizable. Warden if in Inquisition would get treated the same, but unconfirmed if that is in DAI.

Well your problem is you rely on your Hawke too much. Spirit healer Hawke is very overpowered but you will do the healing and support and must rely on your companions to deal damage. Make Anders or Merril a damage dealer mage (Anders can deal more damage, Merril has more utility such as crowd control etc..). Get a warrior and a rogue, anyone is fine. The game will turn into easy mode.

And have you checked the dragon age keep? That's how we are going to "import" our Hawke.

There's always the same similar questions people make a thread for everyday....How hard is it to look at the main keep thread?

Actually, I think OP was unaware of the Keep. I could be mistaken.

Their is a pinned thread for the keep up top? :o  ^_^

Unless I read it wrong OP talks like you can do character customization in the Keep which is false there is no character creator in the keep, anyway I always use default female Hawke I think she looks the best so I won't be making any changes.

There will be customization for Hawke in Inquisition though, not keep. Were unsure about the Warden.

I'm surprised your Spirit Healer Hawke wasn't effective in the DLC, particularly if you were playing them after the main game.   What was you other specialisation?    I always took Force Mage.    Combine that with a fire/ice mage and my Hawke seemed pretty good.   They certainly took out the Arishok single handed in only slightly less time than my assassin Hawke did.    May be the problem was with the party you took with you rather than your Hawke.    I certainly found it very annoying that I was lumbered with Talis in MoA and so had to restrict my companions to two.

Anyway, as others have said, your Hawke can be anything you want in the Keep and since spirit healer is no longer a specialisation it won't be relevant that they were that in DA2.

It won't matter if you 'replace' your existing Hawke with a new one by replaying DA2 with a different playstyle since you won't actually import your save and Hawke directly to DAI. You'll get to 'remake' their character in the Keep, and I doubt it'll ask you about their combat prowess so much as what they did in the game.

I for one, even knowing there is no direct import will be playing the games over again in November (Though I am starting now because I lost my characters). I lost the game and for my own interest and desires, I want to have the physical saves aside from the Keep.

So I don't see why you shouldn't make a new Hawke. Just keep in mind there is no direct importing.

I found a Blood Mage/Force Mage combination more effective than Spirit Healer. Dead enemies can't damage you.

The easiest time I had, though, was as a two-handed warrior with heavy investment in the Beserker and Vanguard trees. I always play on Nightmare, so I kept the rest of the party at range to avoid the massive friendly fire, but you don't need to worry about that on Hard. (My regular companions were Bethany/Anders, Varric/Sebastian and Merrill. Always Merrill.)

We will have the Keep to create the world state we wish, so, no, you don't need to replay DA 2 or DAO.

But if you want to feel like a badass - by all means, set difficulty to Nightmare and start a new character.

Step 1: Look in the DA 2 section of the forums for Arelexxx's guides on whichever class you prefer.

Step 2: ...

Step 3: Roflstomp stuff in style.

if you choose the mage - take Anders, Merril and Varric. Between 3 Firestorms, 2 or 3 Lightnings and Tempests, 3 Winter's Grasps, 1 Walking Bomb CCC, Bursting Arrow/Archer's Lance CCC and Merril's personal skill tree, stuff will die incredibly fast. You'd need to spec into Force Mage and Paralyze(for Anders), to keep mooks in place. Add Blood Mage, Grave Robber and Heal for unending casting and voila!

Considering the Keep you don't even need to have ever played DA2 (or DAO) to import a customized character.

You're not the only considering a new Hawke OP, I'll be retconning my Hawke from being a mage supporter to a templar one and have Anders executed. Definitely need to fix those terrible mistakes.

did you do the fight against the dragon thing in Legacy? that optional fight in that arena after picking up the orb? that fight was hard.

If there isnt' a way to import my Hawke to DA:I, then I will have no choice then to make another one.

Yeah, I also think that the Keep will only ask for decisions you made and your Hawke's class and gender. If you remember all of that, you could use that info to essentially keep your Hawke...or you could make different choices for a whole new Hawke. There will be space to create 5 different world saves, so your imagination can run wild with different decision combos.

You will be able to choose Hawke's gender, class, choices, who they romanced etc in The Keep (same goes for the warden) some on here are thinking you can remake Hawke in the Keep which is false there is NO character creation in the Keep. Chances are at the start of the game once you have made your Inquisitor you will then be asked to remake your Hawke from DA 2 (and your Warden from Origins if they are in the game)

I'm not changing anything about Hawke or his time in Kirkwall. What happened on my first play through of both DA games is set in stone and my Inquisitor will have to deal with it. For good or ill.
