That hunk of metal was just handed off to Sten and i never paid it another bit of mind.
Dane, homey. He was slaying dragons and copulating with she-wolves before it was cool.

What makes you think starmetal is iron? Or that DA physics work like real physics?
In fact, fallen meteors had a higher concentration of Iridium, which is precious and stronger than iron. Therefore Star Metal is factually better.
Still not better than decent steel IRL.
Still not better than a weapon made out of blood magic or red lyrium.

Starfang was also forged by a master smith, i think people leave that bit out.
I think maybe one smith out of a hundred could replicate the feat.

Not "better" is the word I'd use to describe Meredith's sword.
I now need dual swords named Sacrifice and Victory.

Personally I'd take reliability over raw power any day of the week. Slap in a few runes, and you can turn your trusty non-blood magic-y regular lyrium-enhanced sword into a lightning-wreathed fiery death stick.

At least he didn't have to planet scan for it.
I know Vigilance was cut from DA2, but dagnabbit, it's supposed to be a sentient weapon. That is ridiculously awesome, until it starts back talking to you I spose.
I'm hoping there's a keep mention for Vigilance.

Don't know where you got either of those facts from.
Vigilance being in DA2 data files is probably more due to an artist wanted the chance to recreate Vigilance.
Sentient?

I got those facts from playing the awakening expansion and da2 and checking out the dragon age wiki page.
There are item codes of Vigilance (both longsword and greatsword) in da2, but they're accessible only by console commands. The weapon has screenshots too on the page. While you could be correct about the art thing, in my limited experience game development is a lot more spread out than you'd think.
Concept Artists, Texture artists (how a weapon looks in terms of colour), Modellers and if appropriate Animators are frequently different professions held by different people. Add to that Level Designers and Level Builders who are responsible for the actual building and setting up of the levels we traipse about. In a game the size of BioWare's, it's highly unlikely that a level builder would not only concept, texture and export two swords into the game and also put item details including item codes (i.e., what the weapon does and how it does it, what stats etc it may have). It's much more likely that gaining Vigilance was tied to a quest that was subsequently cut for any number of reasons.
The blade was rumoured to be sentient as per the Awakening epilogue text should you get wade to craft it. Since I think that is badass, I hope it's true therefore in da3.
Wouldn't mind it being given to you by the warden-commander.
This. I would like it if this was what happened. You kill corypheus, blast him to pieces with you magic fade powers and as a reward for helping get the wardens free from his control, the hero of ferelden/orlesian warden Commander gives you the legendary weapon Vigilance as a reward and you gain more warden support as a result.
Something like that. Maybe not quite as far as the endgame, or postgame, but past the middle.
Warden: I think you could probably put this to use.
Considering Warden Commander apparently misplaced it into the hands of the Antvan crows, I hope so. As corny and stupid as it may sound, I'd really like to draw it from a rock like some sort of Arthurian myth.
Since there's a crafting system. I'll just make a weapon better than Vigilance. In fact, I think I'll name it "Better Than Vigilance."
why dont you just go ahead and go for lightsaber?
http://dragonage.wik..._(Dragon_Age_II) it was supposed to be in he second game, but it was cut. I think the whole Vigilance legend was quietly discarded.
The one handed version is in DA2, it was just renamed and given a new backstory but it's the same model.

If you find vigilance then there are two options, either you take it for yourself or you give it as a gift to wardens LI Leliana/Morrigan who returns it to the warden
I wouldn't mind finding pieces of Vigilance strewn throughout Inquisition and taken to a master smith (like Wade) to reforge in much the same fashion you would find and reforge weapons like 'Blade of the Equalizer' in Baldru's Gate 2.
I had Vigilance in my inventory when I started Witch Hunt, which I accounted for by assuming that the Warden Commander hunted down the Crows that had taken his sword and murdered the lot of them (or intimidated them into giving it back, whichever) between Awakening and Witch Hunt.
I left Vigilance with Ariane when I went on the Magical Mystery Tour with Morrigan (I took Maric's set), so I assume she's taking good care of it for me (along with my Mabari Winston, the greatest statesman and orator Ferelden has ever seen).

I actually quite like that idea too. An 'all grown up' OGB warrior, whose parents are a chasind witch of the wilds and arguably one of the greatest mages of his generation (Arcane Warrior: Elemental Chaos greatsword spirit firing badass that twists atmospheric conditions about himself) wielding a sentient blade. What could possibly go wrong?
I'd like to see Wades work pop up again.
I would like to head canon that my Warden, since she will be a mage, will have a staff she named Vigilance, in honor of her weapon.
