Since I saw my Warden go through the Eluvian with it on his back, I'm generally of the opinion that the "stolen Vigilance" is another sword made by Wade, or some other sword entirely with the name attached to it for "but I have the sword of the Hero Of Ferelden!" value. That way it works for everyone!
...except the guy with the fake Hero sword. Sucker.

I leave Vigilance at the Vigil when I import so that the epilogue makes sense. By then the Warden is powerful enough to one-shot darkspawn with his bare hands anyway.

I usually give Vigilance to Justice and let my lightning-quick rogue go to Witch Hunt with wild daggers. Then when Justice disappears, the disappearance of the sword makes sense.
I'd rather Yusaris make a comeback. The hilt was ugly as all Hell, but it had an awesome back story.

There is no telling how old this sword is, and yet the edge is still as bright as moonlight. Written on one side of the blade are the words, "You are the mirror." On the other is written, "Reflect."
I'll just add that the Slides from the end of the game are hearsay remember? so who's to say the Crows really did steal the blade? I remember clearly walking threw that mirror with my Vigilance blade... so when did they get it lol?
I'd totally support sentient sword trying to get back to its owner. That sword is iconic to the Warden as Champions armor is to Hawke.
