orly? i remember quit clearly a certain point in a certain best selling game by a certain not so great since they became sell outs company where a certain red heads said head got sent flying inside a certain holy temple.........

You do know Bioware never sold out. Bioware was a subsidiary of Elevation Partners, EA didn't buy Bioware but straight out Elevation Partners, which was founded by none other, among others, than Jonh Riccitieello.

As has already been pointed out, they didn't give the player the choice to kill her, she chose to confront you herself and leading it into a fight which ended up with her knocked out, no matter what the cinema scene says.

It's not the "choice" that has most people worried, or at least not me. It was the consequences, evidence and the retcon. We saw her die. The codex was updated to... "When The Warden corrupted and destroyed the Sacred Ashes of Andraste, Leliana drew her weapon and was killed alongside the guardian." No matter what they say now, I do not believe that the original intention was for Leliana to survive. We were given consequences and they have been altered.

Contrast that to the video of the cowardly Hawke and the cunning Isabela (first time I have seen that). The player is told pretty much immediately that Isabela escaped. It is completely plausible and in character. It was what the writers always intended, there was no retcon. They showed you the consequences with Isabela warning Hawke that she will be back.

I'm not saying retcons are completely bad. Although they should in general be avoided, sometimes they are worth it if they are important enough to the story. From the DA2 perspective, Leliana was nowhere near important enough to justify it. However it does seem that in the greater scheme of things, including Inquisition, that she has a bigger and more important role. If the writers feel that her character is the perfect fit then I am ok with it.

As I said before, I look forward to seeing Merrill's clan again.  Yes Merrill was crying in Lowtown because we "killed" them all, but it's clear now that they were all just pretending to be dead.  After all, the game never gives the player the choice to kill the entire Dalish clan on Sundermount.

Also, Redcliffe will be perfectly fine in Inquisition, regardless of whether the Warden left them to fend for themselves or saved them all in Origins. Because the player was never given a choice to kill off the people of Redcliffe.  And of course there's rebel-Alistair roaming Ferelden and causing a ruckus ten years after escaping the cells of Fort Drakon, because the Warden doesn't actually get to choose to execute him...

I'm actually okay with retcons in general.  "I/We realized that I/we didn't want that to actually happen, because it helps the next installment better if it didn't" is perfectly valid, in my mind(as long as it's done too often).  I just don't like being told bullshit excuses for those retcons.  Especially when the logical extension of said excuse means half of the "choices" a player may think they have made were never really choices at all.

As for the codex entries in DA: Origins, I seem to remember that mr. Gaider himself said/wrote that they were written by someone. With a clear view of that person's opinion on what happened e.g. at Andraste's Temple. And if the entry is written by say Brother Genitivi, the entry is written from his viewpoint or perspective. And please remember that for this particular entry, Genitivi was not present at the place where you found Andraste's Ashes. The only thing he could have seen or would indeed have seen is that Leliana went into the temple and not went bavk out again. Thus thinking Leliana was dead. This might not be true....as Leliana has the Feign Death ability (as a Bard) there seem to to oddly healing powers in that mountain.

*SPOILERS*

On the surface Isabella seems like an Immoral selfish person and her actions during the coarse of Dragon Age 2 undoubtabley are.

But if you go deep inside her (no pun indended) you will find that actually there's more to her than it seems. She just had an extremely traumatic past that taught her a "survival of the fittest just be selfish" personallity. She's actually a sweetheart at heart.

She was sold and used, treated like an object, so after she got out she valued her freedom and was emotionally confused as to where she stands ethically wise. After these events she thought everyone was out for themselves and will hurt her feelings if she lets them close, so she didn't let anyone into her life.

As much of a ****** she seems, she couldn't  sell all those slaves before the events of DA2 because deep down she's a good person.

She also possibly made a friendship (+50 friendship) or I know you're right so I hate you relationship (+50 rivaly) with Hawke that made her come back with the tome since she felt that she owes it to him/her.She isn't really morally deprived as she makes everyone think(including herself), not really.

She becomes aware of her mistakes and the wrongs she did if in her final companion mission if you kill Castion. She realises that her actions have concequences and actually turns into a somewhat morally normal person. She finally lets her friends and potential love(Hawke) into her life and makes connections and loyal friendships with people.

Her character development is amazing as she changes as a person over the three acts.

She is my favourite Dragon Age character and I bow to her writer in respect for making such an amazingly complex character.

this is a great explanation of Isabela's character.  A like is not enough for this post, have one of these
