Will this character return and why does she have such a thick plot armor?

I like Isabela quite a bit, but her personal quest always irritated me.  We slay dragons, demons, and men by the hundreds yet she puts lives on the line because one pirate dude threatens her?  Huh???

I'd like to see her in DAI if we gave her to the Qunari...I'm dying to hear her escape tale for myself.

Her personal storyline reflects on her own personal inner struggle.

My console hates me! I played through DA2 more than a couple of dozen times - lost count of how many runs really - and no matter how many times I tried to set things up to kill Merrill, I never managed to prompt that action. I had no particular grudge against that character, I just try to do EVERYTHING that is possible to see how the story shapes up. Never managed to kill the dalish blood mage. That is pretty much all I missed out on in DA2.

Yeah, I never got the option to kill Merril at the end of my game, even if she's max out in Rivalry.

To kill merrill or fenris you have to not max their friendship/rivalry (maybe not even reach half I don't remember completely) and side with either the Templars for merrill or the mages for fenris. My first playthrough I had this with fenris but thankfully I was able to persuade him to join me anyway, really just ignore them both, don't do their quests or talk to them and you can end up killing them if that's what you want

Wouldn't say she has huge plot amour. Aveline, Varric and Sebastian die just as much as her.

But I hope Izzy comes back. It's on my wishlist.

EDIT: While you can't kill her, you can at least completely destroy her ability to have faith in anybody again.

Isabela was an awful character and I hope she never ever returns. I kinda hope she just went to Rivain or took to the seas and won't be anywhere near Orlais or Fereldan during the game.

An amoral, backstabbing, thieving, sleazy, pathological liar. She was the Yoshimo of DA:II, except Yoshimo had a better excuse. And her voice was almost as grating as Merrill's. Handing her over to the Arishok after she swoops in like the hero of the day, but then sarcastically discarding her and having her dragged off was one of the best things about DAII. (and it didn't have all that many high notes)

It's such a shame she managed to escape. I would have preferred it if they gave her the ''Viscount Dumar'' makeover.

The Qunari do not waste resources (people).  The Ben-hassrath would have attempted to reeducate Isabela.  If Isabela did not "see the light", the viddathlok might use qamek and turn Isabela into a mindless laborer.

Isabela is one of my favorite characters. I understand her actions were foolish, but she does have a heart of gold. I hope to see my Hawke and Isabela reunited. I doubt it will happen, but hey, I didn't think we'd be seeing Hawke either.

Well except for a the viscount and a few dozen kirkwall citizens and that one noble that actually said, hey! you can't kill the viscount!  Oh and all the people that died due to their poison gas little trick because dumbo horns wanted to make Javarris tintop look bad.

re Isabella and her story, pretty decent job by bioware with that.  They had me genuinely puzzled when she refused to go and talk to the arishok a few times before she spilled the beans.  I was also caught off guard when when took off with the book in my first play through.

Some people here seem to be disregarding a few things...in all the years the qunari were in Kirkwall, they were treated like monsters by the populace and had MANY hate crimes committed against them and the arishok took it in stride for the most part. He wasn't trying to convert Kirkwall to the qun at first but people like petrice and ser varnell kept pushing and attacking his men and after 3 years of it he snapped. He straight up says "the provocations we have suffered have worked". I blame the timeskips, because of them what is years in game feels like hours to us so we lose focus of the issues. As for isabela, she is definitely the companion I hated the most and if giving her over to the qun would have worked I would have done so.....but she isn't fully to blame for the qunari attack. She certainly played a role and the deaths are definetly on her head, but only in part. The blame also extends to the Kirkwall government for not controlling their people better, the radicals who wanted a holy war or just hated the qun and killed many innocent qunari over the years, and the qunari themselves for keeping their reasons for being in Kirkwall secret and eventually losing it.

I kind of have my doubts that there where too many Hate Crimes commited upon the Qunari outside of Petrice's stuff for which she was often dealt with, and her agents punished for. Oh I'm sure the Qunari where disliked a lot, but I have my doubts there where too many people attacking the Qunari Soldiers and walking away alive. The Arishoks 'Problems' with Kirkwall had far more to do with Kirkwall not following the Qun and being a 'Chaotic' place I think.

Regardless here is the problem the Arishok has been given the one task of getting hold of the book but it is entirely possible that you can tell him Isabella has it and has left Kirkwall and... he will still continue to threaten the Nobles with Convert or die. I'm sorry the Arishok lost any points the guy may have had when that was his stance.

Well he is a influential crime lord. And there is the actual threat of such a person sending hired killers to kill you in your sleep or just set the building you are in on fire. And if that fails he can simply send more, so you will constatnly fear for your live and basically he can make your live a living hell.

Real live comparison: Just because you are a badass security guy that beats up agressive drunk guys and criminals it doesn't mean you shouldn't be afraid if a high up mafia boss threatens you personally.

1) I like Isabella and I think she's one of the coolest characters all around. I especially like the fact that she doesn't follow any ideology (and uses it as an excuse to kill lots of people), but basicly tries to take care of herself. I don't like Social Justice Warriors, no matter which side they are on.

2) Yeah, ok, she stole something from the Qunari. They need to get over it. "Somebody stole our book, so we kill everybody in the city and it's the thief's fault" is in my eyes a very odd way of laying the blame.

3) She cares. That's why she comes back if you treat her well. Not to mention that she is one of the very few characters who question themselves and show any sign of reflection on their own actions.

4) Whether somebody dies or not shouldn't be dependant upon how "moral" they are, but if it makes sense to the story.

5) I think it's not completely implausible that she escapes. I don't see blatant plot armor there.

6) I'd love to see her back.

7) *consults the chart* Bull, Josi, Inquisitor, Isabella....yeah, that should work. Might be challenging for the cinematics department.

It's a known fact that Isabela is a personal favorite of David Gaider's.  She has plot armor almost as thick as Liara's I'd wager.

lol...  I knew who this was about before I even opened the thread.

Anyway, I don't like Isabela one bit, but this is a lot better than letting us kill her and then bringing her back.  I don't really care what happens off-screen or in comic books, so unless she shows up in another game, I'll just headcanon that the Qunari took her to Par Vollen and turned her into a zombie using qamek.  If she does show up again, it's no big deal because at least the writers had the decency to make it possible without an unexplained or poorly explained handwave/resurrection.  So unless they make her a party member again, I'm satisfied.

And here was me thinking that Leliana was the Liara of DA, the butthurt runs deep in their haters. It's glorious.

How dare the devs like characters that I don't like!  Don't they understand those characters were created for me and not them!

It'd be boring if the writers always had to write in a way for sociopathic players to kill every single one of the followers.

She's one character and one that the player should have had the opportunity to kill/imprison for her crimes. Limiting this choice and forcing her upon a person role-playing a diplomatic character who believes in justice isn't a good design concept for a role-playing game which allows you to bring justice (or non-justice in Fenris' case) to other companions.

You can skip recruiting Isabella completely but if you do recruit her and learn of her involvement with the Qunari, you have to have high rival/friendship with her to even get her to show again to hand her over to the Qunari. The OP is hoping that in Inquisition, we get the opportunity to kill her or turn her over to the Qunari again who can successfully keep hold of her this time. Point being, the OP, like I, wants to be able to bring justice to Isabella.

...and let's not even go into detail over how many people she's infected with STD's (a crime within itself).

But it wasn't a crime!

You stole the Qun, the holy relic of the Qunari, sparking an uprising costing the lives of thousands when you had the opportunity to avert this, you bumped into the Arishock who now has to be washed and sterilized and so you go to prison. You lose! Good day sir!

I understand the threat, but we can (and do) kill him.  I very much doubt an organization built on profit-making would put much value in revenge by continuing to chase Isabela once he's gone and, in fact, this issue is never even raised by Isabela once he's dead.  I just wish this was a subject that wasn't the impetus for keeping the Tome; it devalues her plight in my opinion.

Why does me thinking she has plot armor equate to me hating her character?  Or me being buttrhurt for that matter?  People are so quick to jump to conclusions these days.

Most who make the comparison between Liara and Leliana from what I have seen on these boards equal it to her having the same plot armor. Why can't we kill her off?  Because she's the writers pet that's why, rinse and repeat.

Actually, I think it's that effing book that's got the plot armor, and it just rubbed off on Izzy a bit.  If I'd been Hawke, I'd have rivaled the hell out of Izzy for being such an irresponsible twit--and then when she showed up at the denouement with the book to try and prove me wrong and held out the book to the Arishok, I'd say "hey, Izzy, lemme see that a sec" and then burn the book to ash.

Well, personally, I liked Isabela in DA 2.  She was one of the better written characters in that game.   Her and Fenris too in my opinion.  But even then I can't shake off the feeling she's got a bit of Liara syndrome.

1) You wouldn't be the one doing the writing.

2) You wouldn't be the one getting paid for doing the writing.

3) Get off your high horse. It's a video game. Chances are you've never met a sociopathic person in your life. Not to mention that you're killing hundreds of NPCs during the course of a single game.
