Andraste herself seems far more of a secular figure than a religious one to me, based on the accounts of her life and her revolt.

Some people on this forum want to be able to kill anyone and they have no real reason for it. And others seem to believe Thedas should be modeled after western civilization with completely reduced power of the Chantry (religion) to the point some want to completely get rid off it. Andraste is just a figurehead of anti-chantry movement.

The saying from that bumper sticker you see sometimes comes to mind: "Dear God, save from your followers." I think it's more a hatred of the Chantry and what it's become, the zealots, and people in the game who commit atrocities or abuse their power in her name. I don't really get people who want to kill her in the game though - seems extreme and a tad creepy in my opinion.

 

Personally, I tend to play characters who either hate the Chantry or just tolerate it (my personal views on organized religion are likely the cause of this) - but I think Andraste as a figure and/or character (assuming we meet her in some capacity) is really cool. And I really liked some of the devout Andrastians we've met in the games - Genitivi, that sister in Origin who studies relics, Leliana, Cullen, etc.

I've mainly seen people wanting to play as a character who can disassociate from Andraste and the Andrastian faith (given the "Herald of Andraste" issue), which makes sense given how the Dalish, Dwarven, and Vashoth have their own cultural background, or due to their personal feelings about the Chantry of Andraste.

Yeah I don't understand it either :/. Besides, if the figure in the trailer is Andraste, it cant really be classified as a faith anymore as it is tactile. The relation between Andraste and Quizzy can be compared to Admiral Hackett and Commander Shepard. Shep is then the "Herold of Humanity"

I don't hate Andraste or even the Chantry, imo it's a shame that threads about the Chantry in particular usually descend into insult flinging grudge matches circling the same arguments because there's some interesting things to talk about there. But I need my elf/dwarf/qunari character to be able to reject the title and object to being co-opted into an Andrastrian religion, if I'm not able to do that I am going to be one of the people raging on the boards.   

 

Even if it does no good and the humans still call my quissy HoA the dialogue option still needs to be there.

I don't want to kill her if I get some kind of bizarro option to do so. I just can't handle the edge it seems.

It's easy to see why some people dislike the Chantry. Andraste just gets involved in it because she's their prophet, but it's really the people who worship her who do all the messed up stuff, not her... I mean, she's ashes anyway. There's a line between using a faith to make yourself a better and more spiritual person, and using it as an excuse to backup doing morally questionable things.

There were ppl saying they wud buy the game depending on how much ant-chantry they can be. There was another guy who said he wud burn everything related to DA if the title' herald of andraste' was involved in the game.

Now those are bizarre. i swear if i see one of my agnostic friends, ill show them that thread. Extremist who?

Yea I guess it's the hate towards religion, especially if it's mainstream religion that's forced on people. I haven't heard people complainin about Dalish nor Dwarven religions. Like DAO had many scenes to be good Andrastian but not to follow another religions. Andraste is big part of Andrastian religion so she gets lot of heat. I just wonder what Andraste herself would say about religion that has been build in her name XD

If someone out there wants to kill that glowy ghost from trailer well who cares. We don't even know what it is yet. We don't even know what Andraste is either, maybe there's a reason behind it.
