Something I really liked in the trailer is the suggestion that the Maker does not exist.

I don't want to launch an anti-religious crusade (well, except against the harpye in Denerim). I have no trouble playing in a world where a monotheism is strongly dominant and largely unquestioned.

However, I think it's pretty cool if a major villain steps up and tells the hero "btw, god does not exist, and you're all on your own!"

I don't think that's necessarily the case, particularly if that line is simply addressed towards a human protagonist who the antagonist may believe worships the Maker; it's likely just a dig at the human character's faith, similar to what happened when the dangerous spirit confronted Ser Otto. I'm sure the Dalish, Dwarven, and Vashoth protagonist would be confounded as to why this enemy would assume that the non-human protagonist follows the Andrastian faith.

I got the sense that he was directing those words towards the panicking masses of Thedas, not at the Inquisitor.

Whether the maker exists doesn't really matter. He abandoned the world and left us to our own devices.

Though honestly speaking. It seems like many Devines have a sort of prophetic dream that influences their decisions.

Andraste has the potential to be the Catalyst of Dragon Age.

i see people on the forms who hope we can kill why? like why? she fought the tevinters and freed the elves so i don't see where all the hate is coming form

She ordered the eradication of all non believers.....  So she ordered the Elves, the Dwarves and the Avvars killed on sight,   Hating a genocidal maniac kinda makes sense.

Yes how foolish of the writers to state in the game that Andraste promised the elves a homeland. What a big mistake by Mr. Gaider. Hey, you should apply for working as the story writer in the dev team.

If I get around to playing a Dalish (which would be at least the third or fourth playthrough), it would be for the purpose of roleplaying one converting to Andrastianism. The entirety of my interest in role playing a Dalish Elf would be to remove the Dalish from the Elf.

Cue the accusations of 'troll' in three, two, one...

I agree, that is a very intriguing direction to take a Dalish Inquisitor. Afterall, the Elvhen Pantheon provides a theological background that is in conflict with Andrastianism. Vashoth and surface dwarves mostly operate in a religious vacuum, so their conversion is pretty easy to roelplay. Dalish might be a little more difficult. But totally worth it, I think.

I like the idea of a renegade Dalish mage who romances the devout Andrastian Cassandra. It just feel ripe for conflict.

Edit: Also, you're a troll. There.

Well considering how cassandra and other girls look like in DAI, my inquisitor is gonna be fine with being single.

Because some people hate religion in the real world, and like to project that onto fictional characters in video game universes.

I agree. I can see that spech being similar to like what Loki did to that crowd of Germans in The Avengers.

No, it was the Chantry, set up by the Orlesian Emperor Kordillus Drakon, that did all those things in Andraste's name. The (white) Chantry is, and always has been a front for the political interests of Orlais.

See that part actually concerned me. Not because I think having the Maker being real would be a good thing (it would be terrible) but, I don't think the big bad "Old God" is a very reliable source for facts if the Maker were real. I hope he and you are right.

I always had this thought that andraste was a this goody two shoes liberator. What if she turns out to be a blood thirsty barbarian queen? An ends justify the means kinda lady. Like a younger xena?

She still went against a greater evil, so I still support her.

Oh please, as if Andraste could compare to Xena Warrior Princess. Pfft.

What if Andraste was a mage, like Tevinter Chantry claims, and actually founded the cult of Maker as means of replacing the dragon worship with something more benign. This and ban on blood magic could have been means to reduce the influence demons and old gods have on mankind. Maybe Andraste is Flemeth and as such Flemeth saves protagonist in yet another Dragon Age game again, just not in dragon form :) Maybe she is not human even and is capable of soul transfer like Archdemons/Corypheus, so she could have jumped into Hessarian before being executed (he had very strange change of heart pertaining to this whole cult...).

This.

Frankly, I get the impression some people would rather pretend that people only dislike the Chantry because they hate all religion, even though that's absolutely absurd. Taking that approach means ignoring all the issues that have been brought up, time and again over half a decade, when people addressed their problems with the Chantry of Andraste - the claims about what happened to the elves of the Dales who followed another religion, it's support of the Orlesian occupation of Ferelden, the Chantry controlled Circles, el ect.

You're welcome to disagree with people who don't like the Chantry, but please don't encourage vilifying them all simply because they take an opposing approach to the organization than the one you have.
