Is there anyone who plays a character that believes in the andrastian religion but still hates them? I've always seen this as an interesting character type.
Believing in Andraste and still disliking her.

Like a self-hating follower of the Chantry? No can't say I have. I never played a pro-Chantry character either, I kinda fall on the don't really care much about religion/i'm indifferent to all of this noise but you guys have fun with it spectrum.

I don't think I've ever seen someone playing a character that hates Andraste yet believes in the religion. I've seen people playing a character that believes in Andraste and her religion but hates the Chantry.
I'm actually going to play a character like that in DA:I. He is going to be quite religious and follows Andraste's religion but he won't really like the Chantry as it was before the mage/templar war and he won't be trying to help them get back to that.

In-universe, Andraste is a historical figure actually. There's no denying her existence.
However, the Maker may or may not exist.

An elf who sees the Chantry as oppressing elves could hate her.

It's kinda hard to hate Andraste. Beautiful, great singer, total people's princess and she freed a bunch of slaves.
When you describe her like that she kinda sounds like Daenerys Targaryen, not sure about the great singer bit tho. ![]()

A character from Tevinter could hate Andreste given that she helped topple their empire.
An elf who sees the Chantry as oppressing elves could hate her.
Opinions can vary on Andraste for a number of reasons, as you suggested. My Surana Warden expressed dislike for Andraste, and told Velanna that he felt she used their ancestors; Velanna, in return, said she admired Andraste.

There are scant opportunities to express that kind of role playing. You could have a Warden that pollutes Andraste's Ashes yet tries helps the Templars any chance they get, I guess. Maybe a Sabastian friendship Hawke that sides with the mages. There just aren't many opportunites for that subtle of a distnction in the game play in the first two games.
In the opposite vein, I have a mage!Hawke that I roleplayed as self-loathing of her magic, desiring nothing more than to go to the circle and was rabidly pro-Chantry and Templar, but was always having to put her responsibilites to the family first.

Well she pretty much is, (even if I personally prefer my loverly Cersei
And the great singer thing comes from Ealisay from the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest.
"Yes. I was Andraste's dearest friend in childhood, and always we would sing. She celebrated the beauty of life, and all who heard her would be filled with joy. They say The Maker himself was moved by Andraste's song, and then she sang no more of simple things."
So to move the Maker, she'd probably have to pretty good, or endearingly bad.

I meant Dani being a great singer, she is the mother of dragons tho it should trump that card. ![]()

Oh duh! I'm so thick sometimes.
Well, Kolgrim & Co. believed she becamea dragon, but I suppose a bonfire still did a number on Andraste, so I'm thinking it's a tad unlikely.

No, someone who believes that andrastianism is correct but they choose to ignore all of it's teachings

She's an airhead who doesn't need to be anywhere near a throne if essos was anything to go by.

I'm not sure that there is any belief tied to Andraste, her existence is a historical fact no? Maker is a different story. Do you mean a character that believes in the Maker, but doesn't like Makers teachings?
I meant more that they believe in the ideal of andraste, that she was the bride of the maker and all that but the character still despises her and everything she stood for.

She is a great liberator and has good intentions but aye she seems to have bitten off more than she can chew tbh. I'm not sure who I want on the Iron Throne myself.

I'm not sure I understand the OP.
I see know reason to believe in Andraste and hate her, she sacrificed herself to better the world.
The religion must have different factions; we know Leliana had very different views than others in her order and SIster Petrice as well. What are you asking?

Indeed it does.
Stannis of the House Baratheon, First of His Name, King of the Andals and First men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm.

I've played as one or two Wardens who believed in Andraste and the Maker, but hated the Chantry and refused to accept the Maker's blessing from the revered mothers. These characters were mages who wanted out of the Circle and wound up becoming misanthropic as a result of their long imprisonment. So although they did not personally hate Andraste, they hated the Andrastian religion and made every attempt to sabotage it. They knew (or at least believed, since the Maker hasn't been proven to be real) that their actions were against the Maker's will, but did not care. Is that what you mean OP?

So... like Anders?
Edit: At this point in GoT, I'm rooting for Aegon.
