How do you think they will introduce re-creating our Hawke / Warden?

Now that I think about it Cass would definitley be still looking for Hawke so in DA:I she might hear a rumor that they're back in Ferelden so the inquisitor and Verric have to go on a quest to look for them then you'd ask Verric for a description or it could be via skyhold like people said

At the start of the game hopefully.

I don't want to pause the game for ages to work on my Hawke's face.

Seems like it would be a bit tedious making your Inquisitor, Warden and Hawke at the beginning of the game. It's quite possible I would just rush through the latter two and then end up not liking the look of them when they show up.

I'm hoping either it's in the keep (which is unlikely) or some sort of feature ingame or in the menu that you can access whenever you like. Of course you would need some hint so you knew to do it before they turn up in the game but also one that doesn't spoil when they are showing up. Maybe some sort of cut off point that is a little while before they show.

I think the whole idea of customizing Hawke's appearance beyond gender and class is a bad idea.

Why? Because it just destroys his/her appearance in the game completely in my opinion. It removes any kind of drama there could have been otherwise.

From the Inquisitor's perspective (HELLO - this is who you are playing in Inquisition, not Hawke. Not the Warden.), he/she does not know what Hawke looks like!

Bioware should just use the iconic appearance for Hawke and be done with it and let the babies have their little fits over it.

I don't think its babyish to expect a character to bear some physical resemblance to the customised one from DA2. It's no less important than class and gender imo.

You may feel that way I feel the opposite. I doubt you will be forced to customize these characters so why are you so fussed about the option being allowed? Why are those who would be bothered about it not being allowed babies?

You know other Characters in the game have seem Hawke like um Varric, Cullun and Leliana, so that argument fails if any of them run into him/her. Anyway it doesn't matter what ingame characters have or haven't seen him/her, I have and I would find it rather odd if Hawke showed up with a completely different face. Why argue against having your previous choices respected?

I wouldn't know about that. Mike Laidlaw himself tweeted "Players will be able to have Hawke look appropriate/gender via customization". Warden wasn't mentioned but I'm hopeful it'll happen as well. https://twitter.com/...639134596505602

Honestly I would prefer a character creator on the main menu of the game. I would be enjoying the game too much to keep thinking "when is hawke turning up?" unlike some of the other commenters...

Just before hawke appears would definitely break immersion and be annoying (in the skyhold wouldnt be any better either)

It has already been said Hawke will be customizable, so there's really no need for insult flinging just because you can't understand why people feel differently about something than you do.

I agree that it would be immersion breaking to suddenly create your Hawke mid-game. I'd just rather get it over with at the beginning.

I posted an idea on how I'd do it in another thread, seems more relevant to post it here.

For Hawke at least, I'd go with finding a journal of Hawke's most recent adventures as you start to read it you get to customize Hawke's face(or the customizing part could be done at the beginning).

Then you play as Hawke in a short segment where everything is silent except the Inquisitor who is narrating/reading the journal (think Bastion for reference).

You could also pick Hawke's dialog choices during this segment but instead of hearing Hawke you hear the narration of the Inquisitor of what you chose)

During this whole silent segment I'd go with this for a background theme

I'd like it to happen early on in the game...although it'll be odd to have it right at the start while creating our Inquisitor.  For one ot would give it away and would pretty much be telling players yes Hawke is appearing and no/yes the Warden is going to pop up.  Secondly I imagine it would be confusing for players, especially those who aren't following news and this just comes out out of nowhere.  If it happens mid-game just before they appear...that'd be rather immersion breaking and ruin the moment...

Although I like the ideas that others have suggested where perhaps Leliana/Varric/Cullen/whoever are telling us about the heroes earlier on in game and *then* it pops up...it'll feel more natural that way at least.  The finding of a journal or picture of the heroes isn't a  bad one either, although I'd be afraid of missing it lol.  Fingers crossed for one of those things..or something equally natural.

The thing that im worried about or what would make angry is that it Will only be a cc for Hawke then They ignore Warden.

Veiled portraits in Skyhold. Optional, but not too out of the way for people to miss.

You walk over to the portrait, hit A or whatever, Cullen (since he met both of them. Leliana and Varric could also work) walks over and says who it's the portrait of, he asks if you want to see it and you get the opportunity to ignore it.

Assuming you say you want to see it, you go into the character creator. Once you're done, the face you've created is now on the unveiled portrait. Cullen comments on how like him/her the likeness is and wonders where they are now, possibly commenting on how the world needs them. Maybe even ask for the Inquisitor's thoughts on them for roleplay purposes.

Wow, dude, WOW. I am honestly very impressed by this. and to make it non optional it's a main quest to see those portraits.

Do you think we'll make three characters at the start of the game?

Or will they wait 'til they actually appear, then the character creation screen pops up?

Or maybe it's something to do with the keep, but that won't include character creation.

Hopefully we'll be able to get a similar enough face to our original characters, but it's going to be pretty hard considering all the possible appearance options.

What do you think?

Anything in game would be pretty annoying to me

Ideally it would be something in the Keep

If that's not possible i suppose in the CC screen, although i don't really like that idea either

Edit:

This would be a nice option

Anything in game that interrupts the flow of the game would be super annoying

Honestly I would love it for Bioware to do what saints row did and release a character creator in advance. Something for us to play with and it could also let us design our hawkes and wardens before the game comes out so we don't break tension in the middle of the game.

If they appear in the game (we know Hawke is, the jury is still out on the warden) having the character creation for both of them at the beginning along with the inquisitor would be kinda spoiler-ish for that reveal moment

Unless... they could show the created Hawke and Warden right at the beginning in slow-mo heroic moments/scenes from their adventures narrated by Flemmeth while she foreshadows the game's beginning.

would make the players think That was it for hawke and the warden (at least those that didn't watch the trailer)

and then further into the game...BAM!

I would include side missions where you play as the Warden and Hawke, and first you have to recreate the character.

I think you will be able to recreate your characters in DA keep then import from there.

Its fair to assume that hawke mabey the warden if he/she is in DAI,would be recreated with an approximation method the same one they used for ME3 custom shepard(imported from ME2). If created in ME1 imported to ME2 with no changes.

In theory the DA2 import file could be scanned as the facecode(s) is embedded within the file itself the face code for warden/Hawke. If they added all the facial shapes features hair, eyecolour.scars, tatoo's etc, from DAO and DA2. Obviously warden and Hawke will look slightly different because of the frostbite engine but they would definatly be recognisable.

My assumption is that the Keep will ask us if the generic Hawke was used or not in DA2 (most people did use them), if not I'm assuming it (chargen) will happen at the beginning of the game or when we meet Hawke.

Ooh! Faking out the audience with a montage of the old heroes makes sense! Not to mention it's a great way to keep players from asking "What was that CC for? Where's Warden?" for 50 hours.

I think they will just pick the first preset the CC had at the each of each Origin and just keep your choices

I'd say the choice will just be in The Keep, if it is in the game then any character creation will tip off when we're going to see Hawke.

The Keep already asks us to set Hawke's, decisions, class, gender, romance options etc so why not let us decide what she'd look like too.

Anyone who doesn't use the Keep will just see the default Hawke.

As for the Warden, I doubt we'll seen them in DA:I so all of the relevant flags can be set in the Keep.
