There's probably still crafting materials and/or loot as a reward for killing under leveled enemies.  Which will soften the blow of having to explore areas of the game that are meant for lower level teams.

I'll hunt every high dragon to extinction for some Dragonbone to forge some awesome stuff!!!

I thought they said it was a soft cap as in eventually none of the enemies would be a high enough level for you to keep getting xp from them?

I think we level too often in modern games. I'd like to see fewer levels, not more.

I wouldn't object to 8-10 being the maximum level.

I don't have an issue with leveling more slowly. I've always felt like the insane expansion of power from level 1 to level X is one of the worst parts of any game. You were part of a group of Wardens who were picked because they were so good.....but actually you were dirt on the shoe of an actual great warrior as we find out. Leveling feels even worse when you are pumping up basic attributes like you do in DA because not only were you an unskilled killable wimp at level 1 but it turns out you were dumb, weak, uninteresting and uncoorodinated as well.

My questions then is, will higher level enemies be worth more xp?

Meaning if say I go for mainly challenging fights, killing a beating things higher level then myself, will I end up higher or lower level if I kill all things in the game eventually than say someone who kills things weaker than themselves but still worth xp to level?

Which method ends up higher level in the end, assuming both of us eventually like psychopaths rampage across the country side killing all possible enemies.

Do we end up about even?  Does one level faster but end up killing a lot more enemies not worth xp while the other levels slower but more of the enemies they kill grant exp, but both end up even in the end?

How is this xp parceled out?

I honestly don't care about levelling up tbh.... I trust Bioware to do what they deem necessary. If that is the only issue I have with the game, then I will count myself lucky! So far, they've done a decent enough job on the levelling system for the other two games (though I did enjoy Origins better), so I will continue to put my faith in BW and just wait patiently for the amazing product I know will be coming out!!!

I think it's dumb that you'd stop getting XP from killing things. I get that killing a bear when you're end-game level isn't going to level you up, but gimme like 3 XP you jerks Biower!!!!!!

Pelts. Skin em.

If I can sell pelts for gold, there will be no wildlife left in Thedas.

Because the focus of the game is story and characters, not level climbing and ability unlocking for it's own sake. You can play sandbox games and MMORPGs for that.

XP for killing anything is stupid but the ostensible rationale for it is that your "practicing" what you do. Think of it this way, if you are playing professional football you only get better playing other pros, beating up on an under 12 team doesn't improve your game.

I think I'm OK with a soft level cap of 25-30.  If I'm just running around without a clear reason to, I'll probably start a new game.  Shale's goal of squashing every pigeon in Thedas worked great for her, but unless there are a whole bunch of neat places to explore, I'd probably find running around killing things dull after a bit.  Being able to do so in a spectacular fashion might be fun to try, though.

Leveling is a way to truly make a character unique and watch the stages of them growing along with the world they are supposed to be in. It's hard to say what is better, being told I am a mage and that I can only blow things up and am stagnent, or being told that I know how to wield magic but I can be so much more refined and skilled. That I can be more than a handbook that says, roll the die and if it's 4 or higher you live, but I think I'll take the later.

During Tabletop RPGs I'm the guy who rolls 1s.... Most likely there will be an expansion like DA:A or some good DLC that ups the level cap some more while still allowing good solid gameplay! The Bioware team has our gameplay interests at heart :)

One thing that bothered me with dragon equipment in Origins was how bland it looked. You mean I busted my butt to kill this darn lizard and all I get is armor that looks exactly like iron/red steel? No fair!

Dragon armors and weapons in Skyrim look awesome/stupid depending on your taste, but at least they looked unique!

I always wonder why they keep the level cap so low  what happen to level 60 or even more instead of level 25 or 30?

There is no level-scaling this time. So when you are level 30, you basically can kill everything in the game.

Level 60 as cap would most likely be overkill.

The best kind of kill is overkill.

I always found it a little pointless because of the damned scaling. The enemies will always be about the same level of challenge regardless of level.

I couldn't stand it. It basically killed exploration when you could whip up better arms and armor in five minutes than you'll find laying around. It's my #1 worry about DAI's crafting system as well - unless a game is entirely designed around a crafting system, it tends to make exploration and merchants useless.

There will always be the hidden side quests that have special Armours and Weapons thta might have unique abilities and whatnot, not to mention Armour sets bonuses

Frankly anytime I can make or buy (I'm looking at you Wonders of Thedas shop) the best items it takes something out of the game. I would rather looting said wonders of Thedas shop than dive the deep roads because he has more and better loot.

As for DAI it looks like (and this is only from the previews so I might be wrong) crafting is more like the runes of DA2 where you can add effects to an existing weapon not the Skyrim let me potion - spells -  craft rinse repeat to the uber-mega-mega kill sword.
