PLEASE allow for co-op play. It doesnt matter if you make it to where you can bring in your personal character, or even just take controll of one of the party members kust please let this happen.

People keep asking for this.

I hope I'm wrong, but it just feels like once they start going co-op with the Dragon Age franchise, it's just going to cheapen it and turn it into yet another generic Elder Scrolls Online type thing.

Bioware, for the love of all that is good in this world, keep focusing on what makes Dragon Age what it is: An awesome RPG game.

I never understood the arguments where people simply believe that their singleplayer experience will somehow be sullied because of the addition of an extra button on the main menu that says "Co-op" or "Multiplayer".

Because these modes require totally different kinds of support and gameplay to function, different encounter design, etc. Companies don't just throw away money - they look for redundancies. And MP redundancies actively hurt SP.

As I always said: never saw a game that got worse BECAUSE of co-op. I did see games that got BETTER with co-op and games that were bad because they were simply bad.

Co-op?? Bring it on. It will be like Mass Effect... everyone bashing the games co-op when it was announced, but turn your xbox360 today and you will find so many people still playing it you wont even believe it.

Not sure I would like Co-Op in DA unless it was like the ME3 multiplayer.

I do see the advantage of drop in drop out co-op for open world, exploration games like Skyrim or Fallout.

I've always wanted to explore the wastes with a friend not as a MMORPG but simply local or online co-op where you play the same game together. One person could be the protagonist, whom the story revolves around and the other could be a customizable follower that can level up.

What do you consider "worse"? I think gamers are worse by comparison when they strongly feature Co-Op - Dungeon Siege, for example, wasn't even worth a purchase because of how strongly it featured Co-Op. Same with the new Divinity game. All of the features that Co-Op brings - no party, real-time hack&slash combat, no companions, etc. are things that make a game worse (at least when it comes to an RPG).

Why would I care about it? It's a game mode I don't think is fun.

I'd rather see ME3 style multiplayer or even better, competitive.

I'd rather not have multi-player files taking space on my hard drive. This game really doesn't need any sort of co-op.

co op doesn't make sense in a story/choice driven game.  Someone would have to be a second class player.  That sits around and does nothing while the real player gets to make all the choices, romance the companions and gets to actually fully enjoy the game.  It wouldn't make sense in any other way, so no thanks to the co-op.

That sort of play is more appropriate in shooters and action/adventure games.  Let it stay there where it actually makes sense.

If they release multiplayer or a coop mode as a free dlc after launch, then i have no problems with it. But with an RPG like this i rather they focus all they have on the Single player bit and make it as extraordinary as possible.

For all co-op fans out there, this feature hasn't been discarded. News from yesterday:

"AusGamers: You’ve got the party system, and you’ve got the tactical mode where you can freeze time and get your party members to do things, in my mind, it lends itself really easily towards co-op. Is that something you have considered for this, or is this a purely single-player-driven experience?

Cameron: We’ve looked at co-op and stuff like that, in the past, and Mass Effect has done amazing stuff with their multiplayer, so we’ve looked at stuff, but at this point, there’s nothing fixed.

AusGamers: Nothing to announce. Okay.(...)"

I suggest we have a squire or Apprentice that we can use for online play who acts as the inquisitor's right hand to collect gold and premium gear you could not otherwise obtain in single player. Character created of course. This way it keeps multiplayer optional and nobody gets butthurt because person A has better gear than person B.

I would love to see an interactive RPG scenario set in the DA universe as a stand-alone game.  NWN seemed to be pretty sucessful and my partner had a lot of fun with it.  He was playing with people he knew, though, and they could send tells back and forth.  It has the potential to be as satisfying as herding cats if each player decides to lead at once, however.  For that reason, if they do decide to release one, I won't be participating. (OK, that, and I'm a more...contemplative...player and would just slow the game down.)

I'm playing NWNs with my partner at the moment, so I'd love a Dragon Age version.

Its really nice to be able to play a game together that is not a competitive FPS, which is so hard to do these days.

Whenever we want to play a game together we tend to have to go to our older consoles or emulators

I'd go for an ME3 copy with just DA universe pasted on tbh.... that stuff was actually fun, especially with all the free updates! Good on BW for that!

People who say co-op should be only on FPS dont understand the conceept of RPG.

RPG is, by all means, cooperative.

Games like the good old Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights prove that co-op and great story telling works!

I'm confused as to how you would even think that ALL co op games are the same.  Did you even look at Divinity Sin before you decided it wasn't a good game simply because it was co-op?  It definitely is not real-time hack & slash, it's turned-based and very tactical.  There are no companions but then again it's not a game that even features characters like that.  It definitely IS a party based game; just that all the slots are used up by other players.  In fact, for being a co op game, I would say that it features stronger decision making than most Bioware games.  I wouldn't be so quick to throw particular games under the bus simply because they feature a multiplayer mode.

Exactly.

For people who bring up ME3 MP, here are my thoughts on that.

As for ME3 MP, the reason many of us got into it, especially SP die hards like me, was because SP sucked ! It sucked really badly. It had little to no proper prologue, plot holes everywhere, Carebears, Lolrachiqueen, to hell with your choices, auto dialogue everywhere and then there was that disgusting ending. Not included with all that is the online DRM / DLC validation nonsense which makes parts of the SP DLCs you have unplayable if the internet goes nuts.

So what happens when you buy a game for 60 USD, which where I live now corresponds to MYR 200 (that's sufficient for my groceries for a few months) which has SP and MP in it, where the SP is utter crap ? How do you make all that money worth something ? Play MP, of course.

I did not play MP in ME3 because I loved it or because it was good. ME3 MP is average. It was very unbalanced. TF2 with its MvM, is much superior in every way. I played it because SP sucked badly, I did not want to waste huge sums of money that I spent and so I decided to make it worth something.

If SP in ME3 was as good as SP in ME2,I would not have bothered with MP at all.

So please no co-op for DA. If they really want to make one, do an MMO where I don't have to bother with things like "Will MP affect SP quality at all ?"

Co-op doesn't mean a MMO, I wish people and developers would stop equating the two. I love Co-op in games, because I get to play through a story with my friends, preferably locally but over a server or LAN is just as good.

MMOs are all grind, grind, new pants, grind, grind, more new pants.

That said I enjoyed the Multiplayer Co-op in ME3 - I thought it was a lot of fun, but its not the same as sharing a story with someone.

Anyway, agreed. Co-Op or Multiplayer.....
