If you could stop social networking, would you do it?

No. It's not harming anybody and if they can't balance their real life and net time then that's their fault. Don't punish people who can balance both.

The real question is if I had the option to turn people into cute little bunnies. Would I do it? Yes, I would!

No. As already stated, why should I care what other people do, and who am I to make a decision for hundreds of millions?

I really can't stand social media. I do have a Facebook account though, but that's just to keep track of what my daughter's up to and one of our friends that moved away said FB was the only way he was going to keep in touch. So I have exactly 2 friends on FB, and I think I've posted on it exactly 4 times. Seeing the crap my friend - and all his other friends - post (he's over 50, btw) just reinforces my disdain for social media though. People really seem to lose their minds when they're on it.

No.

It's really useful. It tells me that I really don't need to know some people better. I thought attention fishing scene teens cease to exist once they get past 20+, I was wrong.

I don't like social networking so I hardly ever do it, problem solved. I don't care about other peoples problems with it as long as they don't make it my problem as well.

Khayness and Woldan have always ignored me...

Interesting, I was gonna disagree with him because a lot of the people we used to know on the old site (Gemma for example, and I can think of a bunch of others that I'm not sure you know, like Yoko/Blitz+Kal/Darth/Ghost) really only used it for social purposes, they didn't actually ever go to the game forums.

That is a good point. People can get more into the social aspect of BSN versus the gaming aspect. Which is fine, but it only gets slightly annoying when they completely stop discussing gaming altogether. Gaming is a huge part of my life honestly, when in the mood or on certain subjects, I could talk about gaming for hours.

But still, I don't think BSN ever got even close to the social networking as Facebook. Facebook feels *a lot* more personal and also feels more active in the bad way. I've come across more annoying people on FB than BSN, and a lot of people on FB are so damn edgy. They just jump on gossip and nitpicking. Of course, that's everywhere on the internet and people will believe anything. But in my experience FB, Dumblr, and Twitter are the biggest combination of edgy and personal.

I still keep my Twitter but I probably go on once every 6-10 months for like 5 minutes. FB is gone and never ever had a Dumblr and probably never ever will.

I'll just stick to BSN and Steam.

I can ask the Syrian regime

they used chemical weapons, explosive barrels, mass executions, torture, leveling cities, raping men children and women then torturing them slowly to death

but it does not seem to be working, I guess all mass murderers start with "why cant people be better" and then all hell brakes lose

"I fear the day when the technology overlaps with our humanity. The world will only have a generation of idiots."

The more stupid people use social media the less time they have to meet and have sex.

The less time they have to meet and have sex the less sex they have.

The less sex they have the fewer children they'll have.

The fewer children they'll have the better.

;)

Seriously though: I haven't noticed social media making people appear dimmer than they've ever been. Social media represents a high ratio of reward to effort, and it's far from alone in that regard. If one doesn't treat things with that characteristic with a certain degree of restraint, then I doubt removing this or that; some arbitrary example of the general class; from the world would help much.

I like the fact that you can network w/ a bunch whose names you don't know. Actually, I think I'm interacting w/ a machine first and foremost before interacting w/ a human.

True, true.

I had to have Facebook for a college class, actually my very first class very first semester. Deleted it afterwards, though.

You mean until we meet and they enslave or destroy us.

they wont destroy us that's just lame cave man mentality

if they are rly advanced they would AT THE MOST exploit us, maybe establish an outpost at the edge of the galaxy (we are near the edge)

IN FACT I think one of the main reason we have not met any of them yet is because we are so far away from the center of the galaxy, for all we know their might be millions of empires/unions/alliances/federations going at it RIGHT NOW and earth is located in the EDGE sectors where no one wants to go anyways

Being in the way has historically been bad for any group on something someone vastly more powerful wants. If they exist and bothered with us at all, I suspect it would be along those lines. 'You happened to be on a planet we wanted, now you're not. Too bad, so sad.'

It's not like we set out to destroy creatures in the rain forest, we just do it in the process of doing other stuff.

A really advanced species would probably view us as mere ants: amusing but useless considering their technology (drones, robots etc). They'd wipe us clean from the Earth and establish themselves on it (providing its hospitable to them) or just ignore us altogether. There probably is some galactic space empire out there right now. Why not? The universe has has had billions of years to grow and the deeper you go to where the Big Bang originated from, the older everything is. There's probably two alien civilizations somewhere out there right having space wars right at this moment!

But this has gone off topic, so let's return to the original discussion:
