No, I don't use Facebook, why would I care if it disappears?

You may not care, but Mark Zuckerberg will not be a happy camper.

Probably not, but he has enough money to live happily without a job for the rest of his life.

Having enough money is not the point for him. He's current fly developing a mobile app that can eavesdrop on you and collect information on users and then sell it to third parties. He's not satisfied w/ the billions he has now. His soul has been replaced w/ everlasting need to make as much money as he legally can.

Depends on the Social network.

I rather like the BSN. I'm a fan of a lot of forums, chat sites, and the like that is devoted to internet culture.

I also have a dating profile on PoF that I haven't looked at in about 6 years.

Instagram and Tumblr are cool as well.

Assuming we're not talking about YouTube and art sites, I don't really care for it. These days it seems like many people's lives revolve around Twitter and Facebook. Personally I'd hate for my life to degenerate to the point that I lived and breathed for the next tweet or status update. That's such trivial bullshit, and I'm amazed and saddened that some people center their lives around it. Maybe stopping social networking would make them realize that they need to straighten out their priorities.

I love the random Youtubers trying to dump giant buckets of water on each other, and almost killing themselves in the process. Not to mention I'm sure none of them have actually donated any money.

It's not social media I have a problem with as much the lack of control users have over the use of their content and input they recieve. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

We should not be treated like lab rats.

Facebook's behavior is especially troubling because of the amoral, frat boy leadership style of CEO Mark Zuckerberg. This is not the first time Facebook has made some disturbing errors in judgment. We need to update our laws to better protect social media users. We need to rethink the way we treat our information and the way others can use it.

To balance what I just said a bit, social media does provide some much needed glue for family and friends to stay in touch and is really useful for small businesses. I like Google+ and Tumblr. I have a naked looking Facebook account only for when I absolutely need it.

Social media needs to be competitive for we, the users (customers) sake. Facebook should NOT be allow to become a monopoly, which it seems to be becoming.

LOL

You should log into it and see how many responses you've got in those six years!

Aye, whilst YouTube is a social platform (just like a forum), it's not the same as Twitter or Facebook which are personal. Most people who use YouTube do so under aliases just to post (although there have been more and more people using their reals name with the introduction of Google + but I'd imagine most of these people aren't unaware that you can still use an alias still due how Plus does the new sign up process).

I read yesterday that 33% (or something around this number) of this generation would allow a potential employer access to their Facebook profile to browse everything, call it a social CV.

Probably not. I use facebook to keep in touch with overseas friends as well as news. While I use twitter more for updates from people I find interesting.

LinkedIN is useful as well.

You use this site to stalk your friends?

Joking aside: You call this place a social networking site, I call it a forum. Besides, the way we use this site is different to how we use a site like Facebook or Twitter, even if you are going to categorized them all as the same thing in the end. In any case, webopedia wouldn't classify a forum as a social networking site even if it uses some of its features. http://www.webopedia...rking_sites.asp

Webopedia marks out a forum as something completely different. http://www.webopedia...RM/F/forum.html

It's only recently that some people have been calling forums "social networking sites" as part of some company's ways to make people feel more at home with them or even use/link their Facebook profiles to them if possible.

Also Bioware Social Network is dead. Has been for a while. It's now forum.bioware but we still call it BSN though because FB is used for Facebook! XD

Nah. It's got some serious cons, but the pros outweigh it. Sort of.

I've always preferred writing over normal conversations since you have time to think out your status/comments instead of stuck improvizing in real life. Perfect? Not even close. FaceBook is usually filled with Instant Gratification stuff. As much as I like Internet Cats, Baby Pictures, and Duck Faces, you'll be very lucky to find something worth reading. It's still a better way to keep in touch with my family/friends than what I'd be doing without it.

You call this place a social networking site, I call it a forum.

The Social Networking Elements are there. Like Systems, Status Updates, Comments on profiles, etc. etc.

The off-topic section is hardly a forum, lets be honest. Whether you like it or not this is socializing with strangers.

A forum is social networking at it's core. Limited elements but it is social networking.

I did say some of the features were there but it's still not a social network like Facebook. Major difference obviously being that you're not giving out any of your personal details (well hopefully you're not).

Um...that's the idea of a forum unlike Facebook.

In fact the Romans used their physical forums in the same way to speak to people about different subjects.

I should've been more specific :P

It's not a Social Network, but it has adapted certain structures that make it more of a hybrid between a normal message board and the former. Whether that's a good or bad thing is up to one's opinion.
