If you could stop social networking, would you do it?

This has to be the best kind of social networking where everyone is anonymous. I've noticed that people have been using selfies as their avatars, which breaks the wall of anonymity.
They're breaking he 5th wall (of the internet)!

No, I'd just stop all the heartbeats of the people using it.
I have nothing against the social network.

Believe it or not, some people are too stupid to understand the concept of an "avatar"

It would seem that some people are bent on turning this place into Facebook Lite. Expect the place to get very douchey if that happens.

I find Twitter to be the most annoying. So I'd definitely get rid of that one if I could. I also dislike Instagram. I don't need to see a picture of every plate of food you eat throughout the day. Oh and online dating websites, I'd destroy those too.
Facebook is annoying...especially when people keep posting pictures of their babies. I don't want to see your baby anymore!!! But it at least let's you keep in contact with family or friends that live far away or wouldn't have kept in contact otherwise. I only use it for a very few select group of people.

Lol this! I HATE Twitter, my ex couldn't stop tweeting 24 hours a day about every little tiny detail he did through out the day and I just wanted to take his ****** phone and throw it out the damn window haha. And for the same reason as you Dobby I don't see the reason for Facebook either, I have personally never used it or any or those other things like it. All I ever use is WhatsApp and Skype and the chatting on my Ps3 and Xbox360 because my sis and her French hubby lives in Wales and sometimes I need to make webchat with them when there are in UK or France, so that's a wonderful way to be able to communicate, see each other but that's all ![]()

My point is that I was being told the Bioware Social Network was not a social network. It's a social network it's just not one like FaceBook, saying it's a forum just to make you feel better about it is not being honest. Socializing is socializing whether I know the person on a personal level or they are a complete stranger, once I hit enter another person somewhere can view those thoughts whether intended for them or not, that is communication between one person to another and can be construed as socializing.
It's not a social network at all. Social networks are defined as sites with a network of people. The structure of Facebook is completely different to the structure of this forum, mainly with the whole exclusivity and privacy of profiles which are the main interacting grounds as opposed to a thread on a forum which anyone can post in. The whole definition of "social network" refers to a network of friends and how the site can link people up. Phoenix has mainly covered all the technical definitions and to quote him, a forum is not defined as a social network, simple as.
I personally don't have a problem with social networking. I don't use it so it's not like I see any idiocy my friends may or may not put up on their profiles. I understand why people hate it though, due to people being addicted to it and always finding the need to update their status as if anyone cares if you're having lunch.

And hopefully, over the decades cultural standards will develop that address some of the problems people have now with the way social media is used. Part of the problem is just people adjusting to a new and unfamiliar technology. The culture shock needs to wear off.

This thread has only really talked about social media in reference to private individuals. I'll have to admit, if I had a small business, I'd swallow a lot of my dislike for Facebook. People I know who use it that way really benefit. And hopefully, over the decades cultural standards will develop that address some of the problems people have now with the way social media is used. Part of the problem is just people adjusting to a new and unfamiliar technology. The culture shock needs to wear off.
The other part of the problem is the corporation that owns the social media platform you use gathering data on you and selling it.
