I do not know if this has already been stated by the devs, but I was wondering if the Inquisitor would partake in the banter like Hawke did in DA2. Or will it be more like in DAO? (thought the protagonist was mute)

They've said "interactive banter," but nobody knows what that means.

As I understand it you will have a short time to decide your response so yes, the Inquisitor will be involved.

Looks like your inquisitor will be able to take part in the party banter. I imagine it'll be like DA2 where Hawke sometimes spoke during specific banters, only you'll get to have an option whether to do it or not and maybe even what to say now. They haven't talked about it in a while though so maybe they cancelled it.

I have heard them say that not only will you be involved in banter, but a thing will pop up so you can choose what to say.

yes interactive banter has been confirmed and no it hasn't been cancelled, they said an example of it was kind of like what they showed in the demo when you could talk to the woman talking about the Templars killing her husband

it concerns me a bit though... because sometimes ( lets say DA2 for now ) the party banter began and suddenly I found myself in a fight. The characters kept talking while we were fighting. I don't want options to join a banter while I am fighting ._..... but I dont want to lose the banter as well.

Yeah, also sometime it start just before I enter a building/zone and I click to enter before I realize.

...that can be amusing if you automatically respond 'Guys less talking more hitting!'...ofcourse that is probably wishfull thinking on my part:)

...as for the original question: Most likely. No reason not to have 3 way conversation really....Original was silent because the silent PC....

 

...and if we can indeed choose whether and how to reply that will be great...no more Fenris insulting Merrill and me being silent (especially bad if I am romancing her).
