The Dalish undercover will probably have dialogue options to make them seem serious and very competant. Not all Dalish are as clueless as Merrill. Especially the PC.

The situations are quite different; the First for the Sabrae Clan was leaving her people to join complete strangers in a foreign city, to live a life in a dilapidated section of Kirkwall with elves who were culturally and religiously different than she was. Merrill hid her culture shock and awkwardness behind her dry humor. I think the First for the Lavellan Clan will be much different in approaching the conclave as a spy.

I guess the elves may have plans to strike humans afterall?Or at least benefit from the chaos?

I'm curious how everything is supposed to impact all elves.

I wouldn't look to deep into it, likely just promotional embellishment

I immediately thought of the Eluvians when they mentioned the elves spying. That would be one way to make me interested in Briala's schemes if my clan accepted her proposal. Regarding the vallaslin, did I miss it or are Dalish forbidden from using make-up of any sort. Surely someone could come up with a paste to temporarily hide the tattoos. I don't get the skepticism.

I'm rethinking my first playthrough race choice thanks to these descriptions.

It's a bit reminiscent of Sebastian, and his family's association with the Chantry. Maybe that's typical of powerful families?

Yeah, basically you have only a few choices as a noble younger son or daughter not in line to inherit - that's join a professional military order, join the church, become a bureaucrat, a scholar, some kind of official, serve another noble, or marry well. You could do something else and kind of opt out of your nobility, but who would do that?

I don't really care about dwarves, so I didn't mention them. /shrugs

My question is... forehead tattoo, or qunari head slot?

I'm guessing war paint headslot.

There could be some serious concern among the People about how the Mage-Templar War will effect them, considering that the Dalish weren't on the best terms with the templars or the Chantry before the war. It could be a precaution for protection, to avoid the Elvhen getting caught in the crossfire.

True.

Also it seems mage took refuge in forests , well one apostates artwork show them living there...so it might be a problem for the Dalish.

It used to be fairly typical for nobles to send their extra kids to join the church. Basically you want to have an heir, a spare kid in case the heir dies, but any extra after that can cause problems with inheritance, either with them fighting for power, or because having too many who inherit money can deplete the resources the noble family has. Sending them to the church can have them take vows that keep them from inheriting too much and will keep them somewhere they can't cause shame to the family name.

I think the Dalish face paint (if we choose to have it) will just be handwaved or ignored by the other NPCs.

As spies, do we sneak into where the Ashes are kept? Do we spy on the Devine? Is this something available for all races?

That seems to be the case for the human noble protagonist; it's possible he or she is the younger son or daughter of the family.

Only the elf or dwarf Inquisitors are mentioned as spies.

Or they wanted to hint at us getting a homeland for the Dalish finally

If they're being pushed into the Chantry, I absolutely think they're a younger child that isn't going to inherit a title. But Inquisitor is a rather awesome title, so I don't feel so bad for Trevelyan!

The Qunari have the racial benefit that will be important in the very early game but as the game goes on that 50 health isn't going to be anything. At lease the Dwarf and Elf resistances are percentage base and will always pay off and the human's early ability point will make for a much stronger build much faster in the game.

Well, nothing changed for me.  Human Noble all the way.  Though I'm not really sure what the point is to the racial modifiers.

They do all seem a tad... lack luster

the only one that looks like it has prior involvement in the plot to any degree is the human

? What didn't you like about them? And what kind of background would you want to see instead? Not trying to insult you or anything, just curious as I actually like all of them aside from the warrior/rogue human noble

Makes sense since the game was originally going to be Human-only like DA2 with us being able to pick different backgrounds.

Human Mage/Rogue/Warrior, Dwarf Rogue/Warrior, and Elf Rogue/Warrior are all things that we had in Origins.

Elf Mage is new but Dalish, which I would be fine with except we are Dalish only.

And Qunari is the same as Dwarf with them being in the underworld, the only difference being the Dwarf is Carta and the Qunari a merc.

Ah I can understand that, my main gripe with human is that I'm tired of being a human noble, but to be fair origins covered a lot of territory as far as backgrounds go. Want to be a city elf or dalish elf? Want to be a circle Mage? Want to be a dwarf/ human noble or a carta bruiser? It's got it all with the exception of apostate, and DA2 had that option covered. However I really can't argue with you any further than that, but out of curiosity what would you have changed about the backgrounds?
I would have made the human warrior/rogue survivors of the haven community and changed the dwarves to dwarven caravan guards myself
