Ah I can understand that, my main gripe with human is that I'm tired of being a human noble, but to be fair origins covered a lot of territory as far as backgrounds go. Want to be a city elf or dalish elf? Want to be a circle Mage? Want to be a dwarf/ human noble or a carta bruiser? It's got it all with the exception of apostate, and DA2 had that option covered. However I really can't argue with you any further than that, but out of curiosity what would you have changed about the backgrounds?
I would have made the human warrior/rogue survivors of the haven community and changed the dwarves to dwarven caravan guards myself

For Dwarves, I would have had them be from Kal'Sharok.

For Elves, I would have had the Rogues/Warriors been Elven Templars. Mage stay as First.

For Humans, I would have had the Rogues/Warriors as middle class like soldiers. Mage stay as Circle mage.

For Qunari, I would be fine with mercenaries if as I said the Dwarves weren't almost the same thing.

I guess its safe to say we won't have a detailed prologue like in DAO. still, as long as there's a decent enough prologue I am happy.

I like most of them except the elven Templars, feel that should be a choice not a background. I would change that to them being a part of the elven rebellion and sent as a spy for them instead.

Human mage is definitely something new, since you're directly involved in the mage/templar conflict, on the verge of being either free or killed. So you aren't a naive, comfortable circle mage like in Origins or an apostate in hiding like in DA2. The dwarf backstory is new too, being a surfacer and a member of a huge crime family. Qunari background might sound a little dull on the surface, just being part of a group of mercenaries, but you're still playing a freakin' qunari and part of the fun of that is gonna be how the world reacts to you. We've never had a chance to be a Dalish mage either! And the human origins come from a part of the world we know almost nothing about! That's cool too! We're gonna learn more about the Free Marches!

I think the naysayers need to dig a little deeper before saying that all the back stories are uninteresting or just ground we've already tread.

I don't get it why they just don't do that like in skyrim that you explain why you are on conference and what you were doing before that.

Eh different strokes for different folks, im glad you enjoy it but I want to explore more unique human backgrounds like the scrapped avaar origin for origins or perhaps a chasind one, I want to know more about them and experience their culture as a member rather than an outsider.

Sure, nothing wrong with that.

I can understand why they didn't do these things.

Kal-Sharok has little to no reason to send a representative to a Chantry conclave involving templars and mages.

Two extra backgrounds ("elven templar" and "middle class soldier") means extra writing, which costs more money.

A templar background would have necessitated a change in the specializations. The developers seem to feel more comfortable with the player choosing to be a templar, rather then making the player a templar.

There is no apparent middle class in Thedas. There might be some people who are in a similar situation as middle-class people in the real world, but it doesn't seem to be common enough to warrant its own socioeconomic class. In the Middle Ages, there was no middle class either. A soldier would most likely be a poor layperson, unless he or she has been knighted or became a Grey Warden.

I might actually play a human at some point if we get one of Chasind or Avaar heritage. I actually find them pretty intriguing.

Still doesn't change anything for me, Dalish rogue first run is a given. However that stat bonus, ugh I ain't gonna be an archer no matter how much that stereotype calls to me. :bandit:

What's better is being a dwarf noble. Why be a measly queen/king when you can basically become a god? Paragons ftw

Yeah a Chasind background would have been cool.  I was thinking you could just be some random guy/gal who noticed a large gathering and decided to investigate.  Once you got too close, however, everything went to hell and a hole in the Fade opened and "altered" you.

Oh, well... maybe some other time.  Human noble is still kind of flexible, so I'm not really bothered by it.

For the Templar background we needn't actually be a Templar, just one in training. We saw Rogue Templars in DA2, so it isn't unreasonable to have a Rogue PC be a Templar initiate.

Middle Class human to me means son of a successful merchant, who is looking to increase his social standing by putting his son into the Templars (or a Knightly Order).

Alistair was a Templar recruit and he had the Templar Spec, so the Rogue Templars in DA2 technically do have it because they also need the anti-magic abilities

That's a game mechanic, they wanted Alistair to be a templar so he was a templar. A templar recruit PC doesn't actually have to have the Templar spec, any more than a Circle Mage has to have the Knight Enchanter spec. But personally I prefer the Knightly Order type background to chantry soldier myself, but there is no reason it couldn't work.

Could just be glitching. I was able to see the dwarf rogues a while ago but after a while suddenly they were gone. A lot of other people are having problems too, while some people can see everything just fine.

A socioeconomic class is more than just one person, though. This "successful merchant" isn't middle-class. He's just a very lucky man, an outlier.

Whoever rules the land that he operates his business on will likely take over his holdings anyway.

Every single backstory is excellent! Although I would prefer that the Elves and the Dwarves had their own unique reason to go to the Chantry meeting, but it's really not that big of a deal.
