Cartaaaaa~

Funny how I'm working with the same people I actively killed in the first game.

So the Elven Mage is indeed The First Apprentice? Neat.

I like that it's implied as a non-mage Human you can be a non-beliver and not into working for the Chantry. It feels weird to role play a character following a religion not my own irl.

So it's like Mass Effect 2?

Every single backstory is excellent! Although I would prefer that the Elves and the Dwarves had their own unique reason to go to the Chantry meeting, but it's really not that big of a deal.

An elf is there investigating threats to elvhen while a dwarf is there protecting the Carta's lyrium interest.

You spend a great deal of DA2 killing Carta members too, so yeah

I like that we're a surface dwarf, at least. That's something new we haven't played before. Absolutely would not have wanted to be from Kal'Sharok since the backgrounds aren't playable like in origins. I would like to actually visit Kal Sharok and get a feel for it before playing a character from there.

Speaking of, I'm disappointed that the Trevalyan isn't from Kirkwall. I don't know anything about Ostwick.

A socioeconomic class is more than just one person, though. This "successful merchant" isn't middle-class. He's just a very lucky man, an outlier.

Whoever rules the land that he operates his business on will likely take over his holdings anyway.

Merchants in general would be middle class.  As would skilled professionals, like blacksmiths etc.  And freeholders, such as Loghain's family.

edit:
Dalish spy doesn't make much sense to me.  Unless "Spy" is just an overly dramatic way of saying that you're hanging around in publically accessible areas trying to pick up rumours.

I don't want to play a Carta character

Also, it seems kind of silly for a Qunari mercenary mage to go to this place

I love that the Dwarf is a criminal surfacer. This will make for some interesting conversation topics with Varric!

Also leaning to Dwarven rogue now rather than warrior.

Am I the only one who finds interesting that only the human backstories have some relation to the events at hand? Let's review:

-The Qunari are Tal-Vasoth mercenaries that are only in it for the money.

-The Dwarves are criminals, members of the Carta, and are sent as spies.

-The Dalish are also spies and stated to have very little contact with humans before.

It's also telling that almost all of them are confirmed to come from the Free Marches. Ok, the Qunari Inquisitors aren't confirmed as such, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Valo-kas company had their headquarters in the Free Marches too. Maybe it's a trend, every new protagonist has to come from the country the last game took place :P

yeah I noticed that too

thats probably because the other races were added later at first DA:I was also human only

and another reason would be that the other races aren't really affected with the mage templar conflict (the reason for this peace meeting)

until the explosion at the beginning of the game at least

I don't get it why they just don't do that like in skyrim that you explain why you are on conference and what you were doing before that.

well thats because this game is going to have a good story and not a very bad one like skyrim so it has to be logical

in terms of lore and setting a Qunari Mage isn't going to be there because of negotiating because it doesn't fit them

and why should the players always headcanon everything? Skyrim actually took the easy route like just leave everything to the player

we don't want to waste resources on a good story

True, that is the most likely explanation.

Also, now I notice that every origin gives Cassandra (or whoever sets up the Inquisition) another reason to "blackmail" the protagonist into joining the Inquisition if they start complaining:

-Human: "Coward. What would your family think? Weren't some of your relatives killed in the explosion?"

-Qunari: "You were hired to provide security. You failed. Now, you should correct that mistake."

-Dalish: "A spy from the heretics shouldn't complain. If you want to see your clan again, you will help us."

-Dwarf: "A criminal and a lyrium thief should be in prison right now. However, we can give you another chance."

I hope it has a Witcher 2-esque decision where if your character truly says '**** you' and refuses to help, they'll just outright kill you. Would be funny.

All characters in TES series are prisoners for who knows what reason. It got so annoying, I stopped bothering to come up with some backstory for them.

I'm still baffled Daggerfall didn't have you start as one.

That's awesome. I'm ridiculously pumped. The Human and Qunari backgrounds are easily my favourite.

Also, here are the models for those that are unable to access the website:

It's implied that the gods of the TES universe drop a character like yours when they're needed into the right place at the right time.

Also, it's tradition.

And what that have to do with story?

It is about player backstory that would be chosen by player like in skyrim when asked about parent we pick what was our relationship with them if we had parents at all.

Skyrim took great route that rpg should take leaving it up to players and about skyrim story every TES is more focused on exploration than on main plot so it is series thing.

I agree they would came up with something new but to be honest dragon age and well many bioware games repeat same schemes as well for dragon age for example it is flemeth and i hope it isn't in case in inq.

It makes sense. Humans are pretty much the only race with political/religious power on the surface. The other races make do with what they have, which is not that much, but it's going to make it interesting (ie difficult) to have a non human Inquisitor. The leader of a new faction that's gathering military and political power is not human? Get a good pair of boots, it's gonna be a bumpy road!

like I said there are certain restrictions in the DA series I mean like I said you can't headcanon a Qunari Mage being at the peace conference for negotiating being a mercenary fits the race and the world of DA much better

so of course its story related

Skyrim took the the bad route in my opinion it doesn't matter AT ALL which race you pick there is basically no story no consequences

you just happen to be a prisoner for whatever reason that was soo annoying for having to come up with everything for my character

So I glad I stopped playing after a few hours I suppose its just not my game so I would prefer that Dragon Age doesn't ever go that route

These are games remember?? I'm not a freaking writer I mean I like to RP but there has to be a basis first (like the origin stories in DA:O) not just randomly dropping me into a world with a faceless/emotionless protagonist
