Mages didn't rebelled in first place most mages did it against their will but it is just that little fact not revelant here just to remind. ^_^

As i said conference is to bring peace what in reality means mages under control otherwise i don't see peace part on templars side. How loyalists will give up anything outside their own freedom as this is point of that conference for other it would be like rebels showing up on their own trial. :P

you just keep believing that !

Okay, I've now got the Inquisitors race and classes I'll be playing as, but not the order.

Dwarven Warrior.

Qunari Mage.

Qunari Rogue.

Human Mage.

Human Warrior.

Elven Mage.

Elven Rogue.

In no particular order, but these are what really stand out to me.

My issue with the dwarven background is by implication you were raised by and are apart of a criminal organization.  It makes deciding on playing a benevolent dwarf who's a decent person kind of out of character.

Kind of like a casteless thug who works for Beraht right?

After a life-changing event like entering the Fade and becoming a powerful anomaly, I think a person could understandably undergo a complete personality change.

Possible you had no choice.

Varric's family for example was noble and had ties with Orzammar, it was probably easier to be part of the Dwarven Merchant Guild.

The ugly truth is it seems Orzammar and the Merchant Guild work with the Carta.

I really hope the background does not have much effect on the game, and it is the race/class combination itself that has the effect.

I wouldn't say the circumstances of one's birth or the only life they've ever known necessarily defines their character. The Dwarf could be a genuinely good soul who finally finds a way to escape their past life of crime they were caught in through the Inquisition.

True, that is the most likely explanation.

Also, now I notice that every origin gives Cassandra (or whoever sets up the Inquisition) another reason to "blackmail" the protagonist into joining the Inquisition if they start complaining:

-Human: "Coward. What would your family think? Weren't some of your relatives killed in the explosion?"

-Qunari: "You were hired to provide security. You failed. Now, you should correct that mistake."

-Dalish: "A spy from the heretics shouldn't complain. If you want to see your clan again, you will help us."

-Dwarf: "A criminal and a lyrium thief should be in prison right now. However, we can give you another chance."

I read all that in Cassandra's voice :D

Before we found out about the backgrounds, I planned on roleplaying my dwarf Inquisitor as if he or she had always been searching for a purpose (any purpose) in life and the implications of that "goal". This background is completely compatible with what I planned.

As the youngest child of the Trevelyan noble house, you grew up in the Free Marcher city of Ostwick and have enjoyed a life of privilege. With close family ties to the Chantry, and many relatives among the priesthood and the templars, you were always expected to follow a similar path in service of the Maker—regardless of how you feel about the matter personally.

Awesome!

BioWare your stock went up a few points in my book.

As dragonflight288 pointed out, it's not very different from the casteless origin in DA:O, with the twist that we live in the surface instead of Orzammar. Fiction is full of stories of reluctant criminals, and reality is full of people who do bad things in order to survive. Those limits would actually make a morally good Dwarf a rather complex character.

Nevertheless, that's why starting to think of possible Inquisitors wasn't a good idea before we knew the backstories. People kept making very detailed backgrounds and a lot of them will be rendered impossible by now.

Super excited with the human mage origin, it fits with what I had planned for her backstory. Would be nice to see if we can see the other siblings or perhaps the inquisitor's parents. I would love to have that conflict, but I'm sure that the game isn't going to touch on it much. Maybe a couple of side-quests/stories, like in Mass Effect.

I think a Mage who romances Cassandra is gonna be interesting. Though I'm still not sure either.

Cassandra needs a dashing rogue to warm her heart. Or fan her fires.  Or whatever metaphor seems most appropriate.  I'm not picky.

The Rogue is tempting me as well.

Just as long as I can have short swords instead of daggers >_>

Is it confirmed that the elven mage is the First?

I was hoping that the Inquisitor's clan had a lot of mages like the one from Brecilian Forest in DAO and someone else had been named First (like the ones who lost out to Lanaya) so you're not abandoning your duty as First when you form the Inquisition.

Yeah I suppose you all are right, I just did that once already in origins as you've said.  In fact my first character was the cast less dwarf.  I'm ending up with almost the same character as my first character as a result.

I'm definitely hoping the beginning is playable :s

They've already suggested that there will be gameplay prior to the explosion. I don't think it will be like Mass Effect 3.

All characters in TES series are prisoners for who knows what reason. It got so annoying, I stopped bothering to come up with some backstory for them.

I'm still baffled Daggerfall didn't have you start as one.

Well Skyrim handled it better by showing why you were arrested.

The problem was you're never able to say why you illegally crossed the border in the first place.

Is it confirmed that the elven mage is the First?

Yes.

"Elven Mage: Enslaved long ago by humans, most elves still live as second-class citizens within human cities. Elves who reject this life are known as the Dalish: nomadic wanderers who strive to keep the ancient elven religion and traditions alive. You grew up in the wilderness, a member of the Lavellan Dalish clan and apprentice to its leader and guide, the Keeper. The clan wandered the northern Free Marches, and you had little need to interact with humans—until the Keeper sent you to the Chantry's conclave as a spy. What happened there, she said, would impact not only the Dalish but indeed all elves. She could not have known how right she was."

Wow, the Human background sounds the most interesting to me.  The Qunari make sense for attendance as a mercenary company hired to provide security for the peace conference while the Elves and Dwarves seem like they are just tacked on there a bit awkwardly with their reasons for attending.

One thing I'm noting is that it looks like the other races will be getting a better bonus to stats than humans but my guess is that humans are going to have more options on choices available to them in game compared to other races.
