True, that is the most likely explanation.

Also, now I notice that every origin gives Cassandra (or whoever sets up the Inquisition) another reason to "blackmail" the protagonist into joining the Inquisition if they start complaining:

-Human: "Coward. What would your family think? Weren't some of your relatives killed in the explosion?"

-Qunari: "You were hired to provide security. You failed. Now, you should correct that mistake."

-Dalish: "A spy from the heretics shouldn't complain. If you want to see your clan again, you will help us."

-Dwarf: "A criminal and a lyrium thief should be in prison right now. However, we can give you another chance."

I hope Cass says something like that along with the option to smack her immediately afterwards...especially the "coward" remark you don't speak to nobility like that not right after their family was possibly massacred in a castle invasion I mean killed by an explosion.

Given that Cassandra is royalty and went through a similar experience when she was a child, and then chose to become a blood mage-crushing and dragon-killing machine, I'm not sure she will be very impressed by that complaint

My issue with the dwarven background is by implication you were raised by and are apart of a criminal organization.  It makes deciding on playing a benevolent dwarf who's a decent person kind of out of character.

Yeah, I'm having some trouble picturing my sweet and gentle Aariak Cadash to be a member of the Carta. Luckily she'll only be my 4th Inquisitor, so I'll have 3 playthroughs before her to figure it out.

We should get the option to not give a damn about what Cassandra has to say to each PC and then get an instant Game Over.

I think we do get instances like that this time

It would be funny if being overly antagonistic with Cassandra gets you killed.

I thought one of the interviews did mention a few automatic game over moments?

Yeah, I don't think they actually show different models for male and female characters.  They just alternate between bow and dagger, or one hand/two hand depending on race, and do a bit of scaling.

Except for mages

I would argue that it doesn't really. Perfectly possible for someone benevolent to be involved in a bad crowd... Along the lines of 'I have to do what I have to'. Doesn't mean they enjoy it and if they had the chance to jump ship to do actual good they'd take it in a heartbeat.

I think this is a reasonable possibility.  Or perhaps they're motivated by wanting to keep a family member or friend safe, or minimize the damage they'll do.

In DA:O the carta background wasn't so bad because you were basically just a kid, and you were stuck in Orzammar where you really don't have much of a choice.

But in DA:I you're a surfacer, and previous information made it seem like the protagonist could be a fair bit older than in DA:O, so I find it hard to see a good person sticking with the carta.  At least, a strong willed and highly able person such as is appropriate as protagonist for this sort of game.

Surface dwarves don't have a lot of opportunities. It might not really be a choice thing to be in the Carta. Moreover, there's the option of not creating an older Carta dwarf if you feel that way.

I hope we can more or less choose why we're a member of an infamous crime sindicate.

Surface dwarves clearly do have other options, because we've seen a lot of them in non-carta roles.

Making the protagonist young might work, but they'd have to be really young and I'm sceptical that would work well in a game which doesn't seem to be written as a coming of age story like DA:O.  I mean, the basic issue of why they would send a callow youth on this mission would be a problem

(And age differences with LIs would be an issue)

Humans get an extra ability point, qunari get 50 extra health, and elves get...

25% ranged defense. Okay. >__>;;

Really seems like humans get the short end of the stick. Same with Qunari.

25% ranged defense boost for elves and 25% magic resistance for dwarves scales. One extra point is whatever, and 50HP is quite feasibly not all that much after a few levels after seeing the damage numbers in the videos.

It would make for sense like a 4%exp boost for humans and like a 8% health boost for qunari.

Actually, they are (just for guys). Should you simply google "protective cup" you will see it is considered "Protective Mens Safety Equipment". Not that in Middle Ages someone knew about such things, they simply protected anything they could.

But jokes aside - even if it is a bad lighting (remember Nyreen's breast in ME3?) it DOES look like re-use of male-bodies for female models. Why those who make official pictures are neglecting obvious bugs (floating objects, lightning showing things that are not there, and so on) I do not know. Sometimes it looks like PR department simply do not care about game presentation.
