Apparently it involves the fact the Carta is smuggling Lyrium.
Okay, that makes sense.

Were there any new pics for humans? If so, could someone post them on here? The webpage isn't working for me. All the other races got new images, so I don't see why the humans wouldn't.
It looks like humans have the best racial bonus and qunari the worst.
While the numbers shown in the demos might not be a good indicator of what hp pools are going to be like at release, so far it looks like 50 hp is going to as much as one auto attack of a level 10 character. Then again it was alpha, but even thinking back to Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2, 50 hp was very little.
It is not an MMO so the "imbalance" seems appropriate because of the lore, but correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the qunari vunerable to magic? I think I read it in The World of Thedas.
I wonder if human and qunari racial bonuses could still change.
Maybe it also affects the HP scaling when they level up. What I'm trying to say is this - while the humans, elves and dwarves get +10HP points when they level up from, let's say lvl 1 to 2, the qunari get +15HP.
When it comes to later levels, while the other races get +80HP the qunari get +100HP when leveling from the same level. It also kinda fits the lore
I hope it's like this because if not it's like you said...on later levels 50 extra HP is nothing
Id say the dwarven racial is best by miles.
One extra attribute wont mean anything mid/lategame. 25% magic resist is extremely powerful. Every self respecting powergamer played a Breton in Skyrim.
For starting out - the bonus 50 health and 1 attribute point will be best. But once you get further into the game the elven and dwarven racials will be vastly better.

Yeah, the qunari perk sounds kinda crappy unless player/companion health again doesn't scale with level. Something like a 10% bonus might have been better otherwise.
Also, the elven perk seems kinda random... how is that justified exactly? Does their skin have kevlar properties? Also doesn't seem nearly as useful as the dwarf perk.

More lean and agile = easier to dodge flying projectiles?
Oh sweet! So if you're a dalish elf mage you are the first for your clan. 8D it's nice to finally know the details of all the backgrounds.
Weird how the first would be sent as a spy though...
I don't think it's that weird. The Dalish can't afford to play it safe.

It's a chance to dodge missile attacks. It can be very useful. Did your mages never get killed by archers in DA2?
I like the backgrounds, and I was expecting the qunari, dwarves and human mages to be like this (the dalish was already known). The human warrior/rogue and the connection with the templars/Chantry is interesting.
Howewer, I don't like how the female elf looks. The arms are way too skinny for me. The male elf is fine though.
I've been seeing this complaint a lot so I decided I would go take a look at it.
The female elf rogue's arms are not that visible, but the small part that is looks like it is sized normally.
However, the female mage's arms look excessively thin, but I believe this is caused more by an optical illusion and/or a graphical bug. If we are to look at the female mage's hand it seems normal sized, but when you look at the forearm it looks anorexic levels of thin.
Unless female elven mages have developed the Cloud Strife syndrome from Final Fantasy 7 I really wouldn't worry about it.
As an example:
(I hope this post is seen by everyone that dislikes the elven arms).
Edit: Added an image.
I'm loving that Rogue armour. I'm also looking forward to playing a lady Corleone Cadash and at last a Dalish mage! Even though I have a mod in DA:O that allows me to play as one...the point is, now it's official!
I'm glad we finally know our character's Backgrounds, those are very helpful for deciding which race and class Combo to pick.
I like dwarves a little less and humans a lot more now, especially because the human's family is involved with the chantry and I planned on playing a devout andrastian in one of my early playthroughs. The other races make this rather hard to do.
My favorites so far:
Qunari Rogue/Warrior
Human Rogue/Warrior
Elf Mage
Dwarf Rogue/Warrior
Lot of hate on the Elven Racial Bonus, personally I think it's quite a substantial mechanical bonus. If you think about it, there's probably loads of ranged enemies in the game, certainly more than magic (Dwarf) so the amount of damage mitigation is quite substantial in theory.
Humans definitely seem to have the best buff though. But they may also have lower starting attributes in comparison, if that's even a thing.
Waking up to this news is quite nice ![]()
The elven racial bonus looks alright to me. In both DA:O and DA2, archers always annoyed me the most. Anyone remember that room in fort drakon with all the genlock archers?
On Nightmare in DA2, archers could tear your mages apart if you weren't careful. Assuming the mechanics are the same, the elven racial trait will be far from useless.
And Qunari is the same as Dwarf with them being in the underworld, the only difference being the Dwarf is Carta and the Qunari a merc.
I don't think mercenary inherently means "underworld"

Not necessarily, but mercenary companies aren't always honorable.
As an example the mercenary group in DA2 also were barely above common thugs.

Have we ever met a group of mercenaries in the Dragon Age who were not basically glorified thugs?

Well, hopefully the chantry would be somewhat selective about who it hired for such a peace conference, picking a company with some reputation for honour.
Though I guess that can't be too above-board if they have mages, since they can't operate openly

There was the one from Origins...I forget the name off hand.
The son wanted to do glorified thug things while the father wanted to have some sense of honor, and you eventually had the choice to support either of them.

I don't recall but does it state who specifically hired the company for protection?
Edit:
It just states that you were hired to go to the Chantry conclave (meeting place) to keep the peace, but I was right that it didn't say who hired you.
My Firefox (31) don't like the main Dragon Age site at all. Crashes immediately on load. Weird because I was able to load it fine earlier today.
Chrome seems fine though.

It was the Black something collective. I think the younger son was called Taoran. That's all I remember.

The Blackstone Irregulars.
And they still operate in the underworld since even the father who wants to make them honorable still takes missions that can't be handled through legal means.

The Blackstone Irregulars! I love little bits of information that cause an "AHA!" moment!
Edit: Ninja-ed again!
That's twice now...this really isn't my day/night/morning/afternoon...

Just because it cannot be handled legally does not mean that the overall mission is delegated to the "underworld" or dishonorable.
From the wiki on the Irregulars:
The Irregulars appear to handle odd jobs that either cannot go through official channels for legal reasons, or that the officials don't find worth the effort to do themselves.
