I don't disagree with her.  I just marvel at her ability to go for the jugular.  lol

It's been Maria's specialty for years now.

Personally I prefer being generally aloof/sardonic, but that's just me.

As for the elf passives there was this tweet in the Twitter thread that was not placed in here.

Fans are curious about Elven racial. Does it only apply to arrows and such? Seems kind of limited if so.

OMG ! The dwarwen origin is f*cking awesome !!! Wow, I'm gonna play a dwarf for sure now, and maybe before a Qunari.

Also loooove the human origin, as expected to be honest ! I love the sentence " you have enjoyed a life of privilege. "  No ambiguity, I love it. And relatives amongs the templars and family close to the chantry ? Haha, good ! It fits perfectly my headcanon !

Ah, and the human mage is also so interesting, gah, very tempting ! All of them !

Yeah, the Qunari thing seems pretty underwhelming. Too bad it's not something like, say, 25% more HP per level up or something.

Have we ever met a group of mercenaries in the Dragon Age who were not basically glorified thugs?

Well, that's fairly true to real life. You don't usually choose to go down that path if you're an upstanding, caring person. ''Glorified thug'' is what a soldier is, in those times at least.

I personally felt like if Elves get a ranged defense why can't Qunari have an increased melee defense? I know there's nothing that says their skins are particularly tougher but still they just seem built for war.

Qunari seem better at tanking damage than dodging... I'd have given them a % health bonus or maybe a small damage resistance bonus.  The idea behind the current bonus is fine IMO, but "50 health" may not mean much once we hit lvl 20+.  It's hard to say, but I predict this one will wind up fantastic at the beginning but underwhelming towards the end.

Yeah good call damage resistance does make more sense to me.

...I'm kind of worried after seeing the Inquisitor models that the Qunari's unique head slot equipment is going to be face paint.

Being able to "hide" it the same way you can hide helmets is acceptable, but I was hoping for cool looking mask type headgear like we saw on Arvaraad (sp?) from DA2. :(

+50 HP for Qunari seems kind of terrible compared to what the other classes get. Those dragon battles, from what they've shown, have HP falling to critical levels in the blink of an eye, which suggests that 50 hp is probably not going to help much in the long run. A % decrease to dmg intake from specific types or bonus skill points, however, are fantastic, especially compared to Qunari racial.

As far as I am aware neither Elves nor Dwarves get a damage% reduction. They get +25% Ranged Defence and +25% Magic defence respectively. Unless they have explained how the system works (if they have please link it) then you don't know what that will actually do for you. Likewise with Qunari how much health do normal characters have? If they have 10000 and enemies deal 1000s of damage per hit, then 50 bonus health doesn't do too much. If they have 100 then it is very significant.

Humans get a bonus ability point at the start of the game. If you can spend ability points to gain health (like investing in Vitality or Constitution) and each point yields less than 50 health, and it is worth investing in, then the bonus health is likely better.

Unless you understand the game system, the numbers don't mean much. Humans gain flexibility, Elves gain Ranged defence, Dwarves gain Magic Defence, Qunari gain bonus Health. We need to learn more before saying which is best.

All ranged attacks, including magical projectiles.

For a nice little repeat elves get both magic + ranged defense with their bonus.

They get a defense against magic projectiles. Not AOEs or single target spells.

They get defense against basic mage attacks only, it looks like. Which is the least of what enemy mages can do.

I can't help but wonder if the "bonus of 50 to Health" is intended to be "bonus of 50% to Health" for Qunari.  Meaning an added percentage after all calculations.  So all health boosts end up being 50% more effective.

Yes, well that would be my fault for not further specifying the resistance, but they do have a magic resistance to a point.

Why do you believe that's a damage% reduction?

One thing that I saw that I don't think has been brought up in this thread is that for the Qunari backstory, it seems likely that you're a member of the Iron Bull's company - meaning that you start out as one of his underlings, only to become someone he subsequently follows.

If that's the case, it should make for some really interesting character beats between the two; it'll be especially cool to see how the Iron Bull reacts to his company's mage becoming Inquisitor, considering the Qun's stance on magic and mages in general. It must have been hard enough for him to have a mage in his company - now taking orders from someone who, by the code of his religion, should be bound and leashed, will make for some pretty great dramatic moments.

ETA: I've been shown the light - Iron Bull's in charge of an entirely different company. Bummer, but I'm still looking forward to playing.

No, they're from different mercenary groups.

Qunari PC is from "Valo-kas" company, Iron Bull is the leader of the "Bull's Chargers" company. So no, we're not from the same company.

Give you a chance to completely dodge attacks (based on an excessively complicated formula) just like it was in the previous 2 games and numerous others RPGs and MMOs. The formula in DAO was actually pretty straightforward but also quite broken.

I think a physical resistance increase for Qunari would have been good. that size should make them harder to toss around.

Hold on, I thought that referred to a spell/talent point not an attribute point.  Has this been confirmed?
