A few weeks back there was a thread discussing which city-state of the Free Marches the Human Noble would be from. Now that Ostwick is confirmed, what are your thoughts?

Human Rogue/Warrior

As the youngest child of the Trevelyan noble house, you grew up in the Free Marcher city of Ostwick and have enjoyed a life of privilege. With close family ties to the Chantry, and many relatives among the priesthood and the templars, you were always expected to follow a similar path in service of the Maker—regardless of how you feel about the matter personally. Willing or unwilling, you were sent to the Chantry's conclave to assist relatives who sought to make peace between the templars and mages. It didn't go well.

Human Mage

Born to the Trevelyan noble family of Ostwick in the Free Marches, you were originally intended for a life of privilege—until magical abilities surfaced at a young age and you were forced into a life of confinement within Ostwick's Circle of Magi. Protected but stifled, educated but isolated, the Circle would have been your entire future had the mages not rebelled against Chantry rule. Like it or not, you had to fight for your life against templars hunting down all "free" mages. You joined the delegation of mages attending a Chantry conclave in hopes of negotiating peace with the templars. It didn't go well.

I'm glad it isn't Kirkwall, mostly since the nobility there was useless both in dealing with Meredith and the Templars and during the Qunari occupation. I also like that the human protagonist is going to start with a backstory that links them to the Chantry, since I planned on playing a devout Andrastian.

I have a feeling that we'll run into Hawke sooner than we thought though

Still don't really plan on a human any time in the foreseeable future, but I do like that human mage origin. Could make a lot of interesting characters out of that.

Not knowing anything about Ostwick, all I can say is I'm sad there's no Starkhaven accent.

I don't mind. I'm sure as the game is played will learn more in greater detail about the background. I will be a human female mage.

Ostwick is ruled by a Teyrn so I guess it has some Fereldan flavor?

Also from the World of Dragon age on Ostwick(tough I think of little relevance):

"When the Qunari first landed in the Free Marches, it was at the city-state of Ostwick near the mouth of the Waking Sea. The city-states famous double walls show the effect this had on it's peoples nerves"

I'd rather be less of an outsider, but we already knew that wasn't going to happen.

I had actually hoped the human noble would be from Ostwick since the city is ruled by a Teyrn which is a Ferelden title.

Teyrn might have Alamarri origins, since it shows up in both Ferelden & Ostwick.

That was my thought.  The human mage I had imagined making may just be a possibility after all.

My first Inquisitor shall...stand around, glaring angrily at the puny little shems, I guess. Hmm.

I'm excited about it. Ostwick was my pick mainly because of the proximity to both Kirkwall and Highever. Which I know really means nothing, but there it is.

As for the origin itself, it sounds amazing. I plan to play mage and I'm glad she'll get to be from the Circle. Having a family with close ties to the Chantry, to boot? Stripped of her noble title because of her power? So much RP potential.

You do not frighten the Dalish, shemlen.

Seeing as the Dalish have had whole tribes wiped out in the previous couple of games (and a book) by their own doing I don't think the shemlen are that worried.  The Dalish need to come up with better keepers.  The last few have been terribad.

playing as a Human Mage will be interesting, given your family's strong ties to the Chantry/Templar.

however, that may also explain why your Human Mage is part of the group that's trying to make peace with the Templars.  So, you're kind of caught in the middle of the conflict.

Yay, Ostwick! We're not forced to be some stupid Fereldan again! I had hoped for the human origin to be orlesian nobility tbh, but the Free Marches are fine as well.

I also love that our family has close bonds to the chantry. I like the chantry and andrastianism a lot and my first human inquisitor will be a devout person, perfectly fine with the prospect of becoming a chantry sister. Ending up as the Herold of Andraste herself instead will be very interesting to roleplay. :D

I hope they're going with the DA2 Approach in Terms of our Family members' appearance and at least slightly alter them to fit our Inquisitor's Looks. I wonder how many of them we'll actually see and who will be the ones you lose at the summit.

I like that it's implied that you can be a non-beliver and not into working for the Chantry. It feels weird to role play a character following a religion not my own irl. I hope I can be like "why should I pray to the Maker?" and "but I don't want to be a laysister or a templar, dad!"

Also I imagine a lot of Attack on Titan jokes in the future.

yeah I will be playing as a chantry supporter and Andrastian too

Most people here want the option to tell the chantry to go to hell but I want quite the opposite!

Better a Fereldan than a prancing Orlesian fop.

I wonder....if you're a Human Mage, will you see your relatives at the conclave??

that would be interesting and give you dialogue options to further define your Inquisitor.

for example, you meet a relative, do you react bitterly towards them for sending you away?  or are you happy to see them?  etc.
