Well, I finished DAA. I actually really enjoyed it. I completed everything, got all companions to +100 approval, and had no bugs that I know of (minus codex/epilogue). I couldn't decide whether to save Vigil's Keep or Amaranthine, and since it had been so long since I had played, I decided to try both ways and save both of them (two separate saves). I plan on doing two playthroughs of DA2 (one pro-Mage and the other pro-Templar), so I'll import the Amaranthine save into one and the Vigil's Keep save into the other. Best of both worlds.
I suppose saving Amaranthine was the "good" option, but I enjoyed saving Vigil's Keep a lot more. The relieved, touched comments my companions made about me coming back for them were just adorable, and I loved the battle. It was so much more complex and fun than the one at Amaranthine. And when I saved Amaranthine, the codex said my companions at the Keep died, even when the epilogue slides said differently. Annoying.
I decided to kill the Architect, as I remember that I saved him the one other time I played Awakening. He was definitely a fascinating guy (loved his voice), but I couldn't see my Warden making deals with darkspawn. I also killed the Messenger (only had the option when saving Amaranthine), as I remember letting him go when I played Awakening before. However, even though I killed him, the epilogue said I saved him. Those epilogue slides are a mess.
Sigrun, Nathaniel, and Oghren were great fun. Velanna was a @#&%$, but I eventually grew to tolerate her. Anders was so much better than he is in DAA, and I can't count how many times I lamented his drastic change in DA2. Very sad.
I think the biggest surprise for me was that I actually sort of liked Justice. Didn't see that one coming. He was interesting, and his feelings about love (Kristoff and Aura) were actually very sweet. He seemed honorable and pretty sensible in his comments with me and his banters with the companions. However, EVERY SINGLE COMPANION told him that he should try hopping into a living body. I'm sitting there going, "NOOOOOO!!!!!!!"
It was truly interesting though getting to experience Justice and Anders before they became Janders. They were good characters when they were separate entities, but when they joined together, what a mess. And considering the banter between them, I would have expected Anders to be the last person Justice would want to inhabit. They didn't agree at all.
