I have a review copy of Mass Effect 2 and for some reason it is not letting me import my previous character. I plugged in ME 1 and my saves are not corrupt so why will they not import. I have a maxed out character that has finished the game twice over.

Just so you know I got the copy from my boss, I work for a small gaming blog. I would like to know if there is anything I need to do to get this to work. Does it need an update to work, because a friend of mine who has the game already was able to import his character into ME2.

I have tried doing it while offline, unplugged, and every which way but nothing works. Any Ideas?:P

Try putting in ME1 and start a new game. Then choose "select exisiting ID". If you can choose this option and find your two complete playthroughs you should be able to import them into ME2.

Otherwise I would suggest you load a savegame close to the end and finsish ME1 again to create a special end game save (which would me missing if you can't selcet existing ID in ME1). Then try again.

This could happen if you eg. transfered HDD or MU or play on a different console (because these special end game saves are hard to transfere).

@lukewind, FYI the Import Utility is broken.  We've been asking Bioware to fix it since release and have had no response from anyone at Bioware.  See this thread for the entire gory story:

Maybe if folks start writing about this in gaming blogs we'll get some response.  This has gone beyond frustrating and spiraled into the truly ridiculous.
