Made a thread to discuss this so it doesn't take over the Twitter thread.

Personally, I like the cultural detail, and will gladly make tattoos for my Dalish Inquisitor.

This could also be used to discuss tattoos in general.

Here's the wiki link for Blood Writing (Vallaslin): http://dragonage.wik...i/Blood_writing

And here's for the Dalish: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Dalish

Just gonna drop by to say that receiving Vallaslin doesn't automatically need to happen on your 18th birthday.

Receiving your Vallaslin just means you're ready to be an adult.

Don't want the bits to be lost forever in the Twitter thread, do we?

They're also confirmed to be mandatory for Elven Inquisitors

I don't like this, personally. I think it would be a cool thing to show that your Inquisitor is a bit of a rebel. "I don't need to put some blood writing on my face to prove I can handle myself."

I am glad/don't mind that you HAVE to have dalish tattooes this time around. It makes sense as you'll probably be recognized as Dalish by other NPCs throughout the game, and it'd be weird if you didn't have a tattoo but still got recognized. It was the same way with DAO with the dwarf commoner origin as people recognizing you as casteless without a tattoo didn't make sense.

Here's hoping I get little bits of information about what the tattos mean, so for instance I'm not creating a greatsword wielding maniac that has Sylaise's (medic god) markings

This is basically how I feel.

Even if you like tattoos, it would be odd to play a Dalish Elf without one as it's such a central part of their culture. Yeah, there may be a few who don't have them, but few and far between.

And I'm sure you can get a small, understated, and faint one if you want to de-emphasize it.

It seems natural for me to create a Dalish with tatoos.

I don't have to imagine why they don't have any.

There's some stuff I don't get about tattoos in Thedas , like  the Human Warden having tatoos.

As far as I can tell , I haven't seen human nobles with tatoos .

I know the Crows have tattoos , the Chasind have tatoos etc...it seems it's mostly barbarians from tribe etc..so I wonder about that.

And I wonder if the future human Inquisitor will have tatoos.

I do wish though that there were descriptions in the CC for the tattoos, so you could dedicate yourself to a specific Dalish god(dess) for example.

Hmm....hadn't thought of that. Maybe you'll have characters who mention the tattoos at some point if you're Dalish, so you have to have them in some fashion.

Sounds more like a "special snowflake" to me

That's not really how Dalish society works though.

Wearing blood writing to them is as natural and expected as wearing clothes is to us.

With maybe.... tiny boosts for specific stats to reflect the tattoos?

Can we tatoo more than just our face? Can we do arms or hands/palms?

That's good. Lore isn't something you can headcanon away or ignore just because you don't like it.

I totally agree with this, but since apparently that won't be happening (at least, not without an overhaul of the CC interface, if I understand correctly), I hope that there will be some alternative. Maybe in the game manual or even in the World of Thedas book that's coming out? Anywhere, really.

I remember when Final Fantasy XIV was coming out, developers would create threads on the official forums that would explain the (sometimes very complex) naming conventions for various races and other lore for people who were interested so they could plan their character names and head canons. It would be very appreciated if something similar could happen here.

I dunno, I try pretty hard to headcannon away Kai Leng.
Also tried laser cannon and thermite cannon.

It's not official, I suppose, but this is a good resource for the tattoos and their meanings: http://www.glitterdu...vallaslin-lore/

I do wonder how a "rebel" would be handled. Would they be expected to leave the clan? Surely if you're 30 and have no vallaslin you wouldn't be considered for such a task like being First or spying on an important gathering. They'd want someone that's considered an adult, and if you refuse to do it, does that mean you'll be considered a child yet? If you felt that strongly about being "different" from other Dalish, probably would have left on your own anyway before events occurred...? Hmm.

Right! I'm not asking for a lot really. Crafting a Dalish specifc armour/weapon or Dalish potion that takes less ingredients?

Something.... anything!? lol jk (on the exclamation)

Here's a fan interpretation, though it's possible the designs will be reworked in DAI.

I'm ecstatic that Dalish Inquisitors are required to have vallaslin. It makes no sense otherwise.

Yeah, I've already gone through worked out which characters I'll play will have what, and changed a few DA:O tattoos as a result. I'll just be mad if they create new ones or NPC Dalish are applied randomly.

I'm happy about this tbh and if you don't like them it seems there will be one's that can be made very small and we know you can make them very faint.

dragon-age-3-inquisition.jpg

Seeing as it looks like there will be more designs I do hope Bioware does give us something to indicate which design is for which god. if not I guess I will just pick an older one and use that fanmade thing as it does seem pretty accurate. Hopefully the older designs are still in the cc.

maybe it's a process. Like you decide you're ready and have to start doing quests to earn portions, and for younger elves this mission was one of them.
